1. I was about 8 years old. Someone had moved into the upstairs of our apartment at that time. He knew my mom and were friends for a long time. I’d go upstairs and see all of these Godzilla posters on the walls and a huge stack of Godzilla DVD’s. I asked him if I could watch one and he’s like “Sure thing! You can watch them all.” I picked out my first Godzilla movie, which was Destroy All Monsters. And the obsession for Godzilla began.
2. My favorite TOHO Godzilla film is Godzilla Minus One. It was an incredible film and it was an emotional rollercoaster. Godzilla was amazing in that film and it definitely deserved that Oscar win.
3. My favorite Monsterverse film is Godzilla King Of The Monsters. I loved seeing the clash of all four TOHO kaiju. Plus I’m a big Mothra fan and was excited to see her in the film.
@lagrie Thank you so much
@nicozilla a lot of late nights...
1.) I grew up renting Godzilla movies from my local video store, bit one VHS I owned and watched constantly was Ebirah Horror of the Deep
2.) I honestly love Godzilla vs. Megalon, it was another I owned as a kid and Gigan was so cool to me
3.) King of the Monsters is my favorite, the fact that you can see the reverence in every scene and the soundtrack is great - also hearing the classic Godzilla skreonk roar was perfect
I've been told by my parents that I've been watching Godzilla since I was 2 years old. I got my own TV on my 3rd bday so I wouldn't wake my parents in the middle of the night.
Favorite toho movie is by far Terror of Mechagodzilla, Titanosaurus is my favorite Kaiju and I love the jazz music.
Favorite Legendary movie is either KOTM or GvK. Probably the former if I had to choose.
1. I was about 6 years old (1984) and my Grandfather turned on HBO for us to watch something together and Godzilla was on. My Grandfather and I stayed up till the middle of the night watching it, and I was hooked after that. My Grandfather and I would watch every Godzilla movie we could together till the he passed away.
2. Godzilla 1985
3. Godzilla: King of the Monsters
I smell a cartoon series spin-off... XD
...........Plus, Dark Horse Comics, IDW Comics both had US storylines....
Roland Emmerich's Godzilla was 1998 not 1988.
Plus, you could throw in Marvel's Godzilla King of the Monsters (1977-1979). Godzilla started off in Alaska, then Seattle and San Francisco. He eventually ended up in New York City.
In the Random House Book series, "Godzilla 2000", he also stomped across the US, eventually fighting King Ghidorah in NYC.
I think you forgot my home town of Boston in G:KOTM (2019), as well as DC being laid waste by Ghidorah and Rodan.
03/25/2024a:
Due to its Japanese Academy & Oscar award wins, Godzilla Minus One was given a massive boost and Toho saw the need to expand it in Japanese theaters.
This result is a 20th weekend where it jumped back in the Top 10 at #4 and saw a blistering total of 6.41 Billion Yen ($43.7 Million) & an attendance of 4.20 Million! It'll have topped the attendance of every Heisei film before the week's end. It's tied with Godzilla vs. Mothra as the 9th most attended film in the series. It looks like it will surpass Godzilla vs. Mothra and Ebirah, Horror of the Deep, before the week ends!

Weekend 19, Godzilla Minus One saw a 100% increase from the prior weekend due to its Japanese Academy Awards and Oscars success. It won 8 Japanese Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and the first Oscar in the franchise's history for Visual Effects. As a result, it scored a total of 6.06 Billion Yen (~$41 Million) and 3.96 Million in attendance. (Eiga Ranking)
Next weekend's numbers will be interesting as Toho has decided to expand Minus One's number of screens. (Toho)
First ever Godzilla movie to get an Oscar!
if shimo can freeze ghidorah once, she can do it again
This makes me so happy! Also love the fact Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the win, so perfect! History has been made!
Not surprised by this news at all! Great to see Godzilla Minus One getting the notoriety it deserves!
Thanks for the updates GMan! Front paged your latest update!

In weekend 18, Godzilla Minus One made box office history again. It became the 4th live-action Japanese film to cross 6 Billion Yen since 2014. (The other three movies include Shin Godzilla, Eternal Zero [also directed by Yamazaki] and Code Blue: The Movie.)
With an official weekend finish of 6.01 Billion Yen ($40.7 Million), director Yamazaki commented on the latest benchmark, "6 billion is a huge hurdle, so I'm really happy that it was finally able to surpass it. I have realized once again how much Godzilla is loved. This record is due to a combination of various fortunes, and the fact that I was able to oversee them ... This could only have been possible thanks to everyone who supported us, so I would like to say thank you to everyone, and I think this is a record that we all made together."
It has also surpassed Godzilla (1998) in attendance, reaching 3.92 million. It is currently the 11th most attended film in the series. (Toho, Eiga Ranking)
Benchmarks now include:
- 1st highest-grossing live-action domestic film of the Reiwa Political Era
- 1st highest-grossing domestic live-action 2023 film in Japan
- 2nd highest grossing/attended kaiju film in last 13 years.
- 4th highest-grossing domestic 2023 film in Japan.
- 4th live-action Japanese film to pass 6 Billion Yen in 10 years.
- 5th highest-grossing 2023 film in Japan.
- 11th most attended Godzilla movie in Japan.
