MemberMothra LarvaeNov-07-2014 9:14 AMPerhaps, because there are different types of known MUTOs so far: The two Mutos, Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah, Rodan, just perhaps, do you think they will give a nod to an old Goji foe in the sequel and call the first film's two MUTOs Gigan or Megalon? For example, MUTO is a word used for all of these monsters, so why keep the two MUTOs from the first film name 'MUTO'? I think it'd bump the rewatch value on the first film so much more (not that i dont watch it once a week, anyway). Let me know what you guys think!

MemberMothra LarvaeNov-07-2014 9:43 AMThe reason they shouldn't do that is because it diminishes the importance of the characters Gigan and Megalon, plus Legendary won't buy the rights to Gigan and Megalon just to retroactively name two completely unrelated monsters after them. The M.U.T.O.s are their own original characters, they don't need to be turned into incarnations of classic monsters, even as just a nod to those monsters.

The King of the Monsters
MemberMothra LarvaeNov-07-2014 3:21 PMThose weren't really fan-names. They were names created by Legendary in the original script. "Hokmuto" was short for "Hokkaido M.U.T.O." because the male was originally to be discovered in Hokkaido, and "Femuto" was obviously short for "Female M.U.T.O." In the final script they just called them both M.U.T.O.
