MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 9:12 AMI was thinking today: in the film, they probably have created Godzilla's name aready seeming that he's been around for a while. It's not like they misinterpreted someone or were like "hmmm....you totally look like a god...a god...zilla...a Godzilla! Yeah! We'll call you that!"
So, when they reveal his name (if they even do, which would be cool if they didnt), who do you think will say it? I can see a MUTO/Monarch official calling the US defense system or something and telling the defense system operator that this-and-that 'file' needs to be carried out accordingly and whoever is on the other line would put two and two together and say his name. But it would be in the audio of the telephone very faintly as if I were listening to someone next to me who is on the phone and I hear the person onthe other line, where I could be able to make out the syllables of God-zill-a.
It would also be cool if lets say a defense file for G was opened on a desk and his name is somewhere on it and his name would never be revealed in the film verbally.
I'd love to hear your name-reveal speculations. This could be the most fun part of the movie if you think about it!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 9:27 AMThanks, genius. I meant: how do you think they come up with the name GODZILLA and how do they reveal it in the film?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 9:30 AMHard to say? I remember gareth saying that the g word is not thrown around in this movie. They might call him a number like m1 if they call him a muto which i don't think they will. We just have to wait and see.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 9:54 AMWell maybe it would go off of the closest mythological creature (dragon, godzilla, ect.) just to keep it with a recocnizable name to refere to while there are multiple giants.
also there is a whole part in japan. I'm sure the Japanese nuclear crisis in the movie have them dub it.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 9:55 AMWell Gojira means "Gorilla" and "Whale" in Japanese. Zilla means "Shawdow. So I guess they would be like "Oh my God that gorilla like creature is massive it's bigger than a whale, and it's darker than shadows.
Life is very simple, but we insist on making it complicated.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 9:55 AMi think they gonna call him "Nautilus" or something like that

AggressiveKaiju45
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 10:01 AMBut in all seriousness the idea that Godzilla's name is actually an abbreviations seems like a cool idea!

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 10:10 AMalot of those above are cheesy.
The incident in the beginning of the film happens at the JanJIRA plant. 15 years later, the "Janjira monster" comes back again, the way they identify godzilla is by the infamous incident that happened at Jan-Jira, calling it Go-JIRA. Still dont know how they will get the "go" part though.

Nietzsche
MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 10:22 AMThey won't use this, at all, but in one of my...let's not go into how I had the thought.
Zilla/Zillah was supposed to be a descendent of Caine, a woman, sixth-generation(if my memory is serving me properly). So, what if 'Godzilla' is a shortened term for "Seventh God-son of Caine, by way of Zillah". For those not versed in Kabbalah mysticism, 7 is the number of God. God in Kabbalistic mysticism is much more of an Eldritch Abomination than the personal God found in most forms of Christianity. Remember, in Judaism(of which Kabbalism comes from) God is a vengeful God. Extremely vengeful. Now, we all know the story of Cain & Abel. Cain would be one generation away from God(from Eve, for in Judaism lineages are counted only through the woman). Which would, in this crackpot theory, make God(sonof)Zillah Eight generations from God. That's higher than 7. 8. That's blasphemous. Sounds about right for the living embodiment of nuclear hell-fire and pain, doesn't it?

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 10:31 AMA few of these are really good ideas, and I wouldn't be surprised if any of them were right (especially if it's Nietzsche's idea).
My theory is that they will get it from a combination of many factors throughout the movie.
If at all.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 12:07 PMi think they would probaly stick with something more simplistic instead of something that sounds like a mystery puzzle that needed to be solved

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 12:51 PMin the film he first appeared in 1954, so the military undoubtebly has a name for him. they dont need to explain where the name came from or how they got it, thats just what they call him. like Kong

MemberBaragonMar-31-2014 1:26 PMif they dont call godzilla by his name then why title a film called "godzilla ?"

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 3:53 PMI think it's most probable they're at least going to call him Gojira. The Giant Size Godzilla's toy bio calls him Gojira and it wouldn't make sense that the marketing call him by his original japanese name. Plus the natives in the Phillipines and Pacific islands appear to know about him through legend and such so there's a really good chance they also call him "Gojira", much like the 1954 movie where the natives also did the same.
Eitherway, we all know it's Godzilla whether they name him or not..

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-31-2014 11:22 PM@ JUNKERDE - You sound as if you're trying to say you know exactly that your presented scenario is how it will go down. It's not too far fetched, but nothing about Godzilla's name has been confirmed so we can't be sure whether or not the fact that the first incident takes place in Janjira is going to contribute to his name yet. Is it possible? Yes, but not confirmed. Please don't try and make it sound as if you know it is confirmed or not, because you'll confuse a lot of people which can do more harm than good in the long run.
Anyway, regarding his name, it's anyone's guess at the moment. Again, what JUNKERDE said is possible, but not likely. That scenario is no less cheesy than those mentioned before JUNKERDE's own. Honestly, even if his name is never actually spoken or revealed, I'll be happy regardless. I don't need to hear his name to be excited about his appearances in the film, nor do I need it for much of anything really. I see his picture, I know exactly who it is and what to expect.
You can call Godzilla "Lucy" and he'll still register in your mind as Godzilla. So to me, how his name is found or spoken doesn't matter so much as enjoying when he's onscreen.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-01-2014 8:11 AMi think they should say his name. it brings back the classic feel to the film.
