FordBrodyLover99Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2, DAM remake? Do you like that idea, and why?Oct 20, 2013
Now remember, edwards said he liked the monster island aspect of destroy all monsters, keep that in mind. But anyways, a DAM style sequel would be great. I cant see why it would be a bad idea. It would give a bigger threat to us and Godzilla instead of just repeating a new monster who just appears out of nowhere. As long as everything else, characters, stories, are also taken to a new level which shouldnt be a problem for Gareth.

Depending on the tone they use I could see a DAM type movie but it's have to be a third movie. The only reason DAM and final wars, to a lesser extent, worked was because the monsters were all known and fans wanted to see them together. To throw a bunch of new monsters who aren't established or known wouldn't have the same effect.
I am happy it's being thought of though as that means the type of tone I'm hoping the movie will go for would have to be met to follow it up with this type of movie.

Well, maybe "Destroy All Monsters" right after this movie is a bit soon. It's not a guarantee that it'll happen though,so there's room to introduce at least a few more movies that gradually allow such a movie to be made in terms of tone, monsters, and interactions & reactions with the human characters. Maybe it's not impossible to have a slightly more serious take on monster vs. monster brawls, but we'll just have to wait and see. Regardless,us G-fans must unite and support this movie all the way!

To be fair, Edwards said he, "liked" the idea, but that doesn't necessarily entail a perfect blueprint for what DAM was. If he were to do something like that I'm sure a little more thought would be put into it.
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2, DAM remake? Do you like that idea, and why?Oct 20, 2013
I agree. If they have to make a DAM movie, then I'd hope they slowly move the tone of the movie in that direction, instead of having what we're expecting from Godzilla 2014, and then all of a sudden, Kaiju are on an island, and Godzilla's taking care of his offspring and shit.

I think it's too early for a Destroy All Monsters-esque movie. I'd rather Godzilla take on new variations of old opponents (Rodan, King Ghidorah...) and the characters in the first movie have their lives altered further by Godzilla's existence.
One of the most interesting aspects of daikaiju films, to me, aren't the fights, or the designs, or the monsters, but how these monsters and their battles directly, or indirectly, affect the human cast onscreen. It's what made the original Godzilla so wonderful and movies like Monster Zero so fun. If Edwards hits the right beats with that, then I'd like to see how deeply the aftermath of the new movie affects lives in future sequels. Another DAM/Final Wars doesn't interest me right now.

Anyways, there doesn't seem to be anything about the third monster. Mutos, now that I know that there are more than one Muto, I think it might be short for Mutants, or something to do with the word Mutant.

Wikipedia can also be changed by anyone and, more importantly, it doesn't list a source from which that character name came from.

In most circles, yes. But, c'mon, use common sense. A 10 foot Godzilla toy? Chances are it's just a minor typo. When it comes out next spring I can guarantee you, 110%, it will be 10 inches tall. Not taller than a basketball player.

I also found chibi figures for the movie. It says "the Mutos." meaning, there's going to be more than one of the bastards.

It has an apostrophe, not a quotation mark. I mean, I haven't done much measuring for a year or two, so maybe I'm wrong- But I am pretty sure an apostrophe means foot, while quotations mean inches.

We don't know for sure who Watanabe is playing. The Serizawa talk are nothing more than rumors started by imbd. Anyone can change information on imdb.com.
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumOfficial Monster Name!!! And Official Godzilla 2014 Toys!!!Oct 20, 2013
I'm pretty sure that Ken Watanabe is John Serizawa... His character is lacking a surname in the casting credits available. Watanabe is John (surname).. But maybe he's going to be Muto. I dunno, would be interesting.

I think it's pretty safe to say it's inches, not feet.
ReplyInstinctiveGiganGodzilla 2014 ForumOfficial Monster Name!!! And Official Godzilla 2014 Toys!!!Oct 20, 2013
It's in inches, that also explains the supposed 3.5 ft Mutos. It's 3.5 inches. So the Godzilla figure you're talking about is 10 inches tall. Awesome.

"Muto" is a fairly common Japanese surname. It's possible the monster is named after a Japanese character who founded the creature in the movie. (Perhaps Ken Watanabe's character? I don't know. It's just conjecture.)
Also if you go to this web page, and read the description, it confirms Godzilla has his atomic blast.

Why is Muto measuring 3.5 feet? That's a bit large for some figures isn't it? But then again, it's a hundred bucks.

@Goji64 Well it was for more of an example of what plan that could be made but yeah, since its Godzilla, it is more than likely to fail. Godzilla sneezes and monsters fall.
ReplyGodzillasaurusGodzilla 2014 Forumnew idea about the new monstersOct 19, 2013
@Dr. Schrodinger, the multi-limbed creature in the original teaser was not a centipede at all. It was more of a multi-armed lizard than anything. Besides, it probably won\'t be in the movie, although it would be awesome if it was.
And I just watched the interview and heard nothing about "monsters coming out of the water"...

ReplyTheGMan123Godzilla 2014 Forumnew idea about the new monstersOct 19, 2013
Well,as long as these things aren't able to actually take down the King or be taken down by military forces and they generally abide by the ideas set by this article on Kaiju biology http://www.angelfire.com/ego/g_saga/kaijubiologyarticle.html,then I'm fine with whatever species they come from or the nuclear method that creates them.
ReplyXenotypeGodzilla 2014 Forumnew idea about the new monstersOct 19, 2013
That's a pretty good idea I think. They could choose the smallest possible creature to mutate, maybe a beetle, centipede, or some sort of insect so when it destroys Godzilla, people are actually able to take it down before it takes Godzilla's place in destoying everything. Perhaps that could come in as the giant multi-armed creature in the teaser?
ReplyG. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumIs Godzilla 1985 the best?Oct 19, 2013
I wouldn't say the Heisei era was the best. Just because something has continuity and recurring characters doesn't make it any better or worse than anything else, but in the Heisei series case it really didn't matter. Most of the recurring characters were never very well developed and seemed to make appearances just for the sake of continuity instead of story.
As for Godzilla 1985, the American cut is probably better paced. But I didn't like all the strange edits and crude propaganda. Raymond Burr's character adds very little to the movie with the exception of connecting it deeply with the American cut of the original film.
Now the Japanese cut is superior, but much slower. It's more like a cumbersome disaster film than a straight up daikaiju film-- Not that this is a bad thing, because it sets it apart from things done before. I wouldn't rank it as one of the best movies, but it's very relevant and probably one of the top best of the Heisei series. Love it or hate it, both versions are interesting films to study.

ReplyDurp004Godzilla 2014 ForumYour biggest worry for G-2014?Oct 18, 2013
Yes because the flying laser shooting craft in 1985 wasn't Bmovie reminiscent,. How about the soldiers fighting aggregate destroyahs, or how Godzilla junior is still not aggressive towards humans.
Love how you point out the heisei and I show you how the vast majority have b movie aspects you try to defend with the 2 you believe don't as though those 2 movies are the only reason the heisei series is loved.
Once again I have no problem with a dark realistic tone as long as it has a degree of fun and b movie aspects.
Me disliking mothra has nothing to do with this but since you brought it up I'll clarify from a character standpoint mothra is fine, but stripping the mysticism away from her puts her on the same level as kamacuras and kumonga as just a stupid giant bugs. My problem with mothra lies in the fact she can't lose according to toho.
Just to show you a little fact, King kong vs Godzilla either sold more tickets or made more money than any other godzilla movie, Mothra vs Godzilla(showa) is often praised by fans and critics as 1 of the best entries in the series, and The hackneyed confusing plot(according to you of course) of Godzilla vs King Ghidorah brought the heisei back after Godzilla vs Biollante didn't do as well as expected and is the reason The the 2 following sequels to it also brought back his most known foes. What do all those Godzillas have in common, despite the praise and good box office they've gotten? Well they're all extremely campy or B movie like.
So yes the next movie should have fun aspects, it should have campy scenes and it should try not to to be so engrossed in the realism it's trying to pass off that it forgets this is about a Giant firebreathing dinosaur that have gotten through 60 years of being essentailly the star of glorified b movies.
Did i demand a campy, child catering, space movie? No, just that you really inspect the content you're using to see how realistic and dark you can take it before falling back to what it has been for most of it's career.
