I get the immense hype and not to be pretentious at all but are people buying figure sets without seeing what they are? I am definitely up for buying Godzilla 2014 merchandise but I would personally like to see what I'm buying! I will be buying figures for the film but after at least a picture of it! I know there wont be any at the moment as it will spoil aspects of the film etc, but why buy a figure set that you haven't even seen? Maybe I'm just being a prat but it doesn't make sense to me... Completely agree with you InstinctiveGigan on Legendary playing viral marketing games, seems to be working if it is the case.

The reason being is new people visiting the site will see the latest news, get excited, want to voice their opinions, and hey presto there's a repetitive feed. Its not like new users are going to come along and pour through the archives of existing threads to see if the thread has been discussed before. In all fairness repetition is going to be consistent as the information on the film is limited and only being slowly drip fed (we don't even have an official trailer online yet for starters).

With the technology we have now in film & post production. I'm pretty sure Toho would also bring back MechaGodzilla. Can you imagine that ? it would be awesome.

I wouldnt count new japanese Godzilla movies out done in suits. TOHO has "killed" of the character and to everyones suprise returned him. No one had expected Godzilla 2000, right? He could easily return.

If anything pre-production is easier simply because all the planning, story boarding, designs, location scouting, casting...etc... is done. It's the most important part in order to make sure the production runs well, agreed, but it's fairly stress free in comparison to the editors, sound design team, foly, CG, practical, visual, composite and other effects driven teams that have to complete their jobs in order for the cut to be finished. Just because parts of a film can be cut and worked on in post while the movie is being shot doesn't make their job any easier. For example, even with the Comic-Con footage, the shots were unfinished. The halo jump did feature the red smoke and the airport attack used incomplete CGI. No doubt that footage was some of the most complete, but that's not saying a whole lot. There's an entire cut of a film that needs to refine the visual effects, color correction and various aspects of sound. This process will go on probably until March at the latest. That's not to say there isn't usable footage, but I wouldn't be surprised if the first official teaser doesn't reveal much effects-wise. [i]Thor 2 and the Hobbit are the perfect films to do this since Thor 2 and the Hobbit 2 are already predicted to be a huge budget success with both normal movie-goers and total nerds going to see both. We're talking millions of people going to see these movies. No film before May 16th 2014 (Godzilla 2014's release date) will be this successful financially; not the 300 prequel, not the Seventh Son, nothing. Legendary WILL release the trailer on one of these two movies. It's commone knowledge and a no-brainer for a film company. Trust me. @Durp004 Profits aren't counted until after orders are delivered and no one could pre-order the toys at present anyway because the company had none in stock. You got an "item sold out" logo if you tried to order. No one's losing money over anything by pulling the page down. The same people that tried to pre-order will still be buying the products. Including me.

I'm really starting to think Legendary is playing us like a master puppeteer. I mean hyping up the Godzilla Encuonter, a perfectly legit and HD Teaser trailer "accidentally" getting leaked online, only for a 2nd one to follow, and now this? Something's up, all I know is I can't wait till the movie starts getting public advertisement (hopefully November 3rd) so all this stupid mumbo jumbo can stop.

I was more or less agreeing with you-- sort of. You said it was "nowhere near complete" in terms of editing, which probably isn't true, but the post refinement comments probably are. And you made no mention of [i]Thor 2[/i] or [i]The Hobbit[/i]. I do however believe we'll see it before the super bowl.

I think it was just to test the waters. They know that there's some hardcore Godzilla fans, they probably just wanted to see if people were willing to purchase merchandise. But, then again. maybe they're just being assholes.

So to hide spoilers which weren't a big deal to the movie's storyline they possibly cut their profits depending how long the keep those away. Hmm makes sense.....

Since Legendary appears to be under the impression if you can't make it to Comic Con then you get nothing I wouldn't be too surprised if the wait wasn't longer.

I expect toho to get the rights back after Legendary's done and use that as a catapult to be able to show some of their next Godzilla movies in theaters overseas. If these do successful then Godzilla would be more mainstream allowing toho to be able to send their movies to theaters rather than strait to dvd as they have been for the last few entries, similar to how Godzilla 2000 came to theaters after the 98 American version came out.

Since these spider-looking things are looking to be a bunch of,well,spiders in comparison to Godzilla having the proportionate scale of a crocodile to the Mutos as spiders,there would need to be dozens,maybe even close to hundreds of them,and they'd also probably be the only mutants that could be defeated by the military,leaving the inevitable big mutant to Godzilla.

I said that the movie is far from completion in terms of editing and shit as such not everything would look as good as the final product and may even look a bit buggy. It doesn't even have to include Toho monsters. It could be one of those "in the distant future" movies, and have a bunch of unknown creatures and monsters all over the place. I'm just not one of the people that could appreciate Destroy All Monsters in a modern retelling.

THANK YOU! I know I'm guilty of repeating a few threads, albeit unintentionally, I'm still guilty. This makes it more easier to avoid common mistakes made due to lack of knowledge of previous discussions. I know this post won't eliminate any and all chances of it still occurring, it does help lower the chance of repeat discussions. Again, thank you. (no sarcasm, right hand on the original movie)

I don't think there's any suit acting at all. Toho really only had a say in the design of Godzilla, and that's only because Gareth Edwards wanted to make a very reminiscent "classic" Godzilla design, which they did NOT have to do at all. Using CGI creates a permanent model that can be used, and modified a lot, a suit rots away after a while and can only be modified to an extent. It's more "practical" to use CGI than to suit act. Now, I'm not saying that I hate suit acting. Hell to the no. I just don't think it's very wise to do that when you have today's CGI technology and 3D animation tools (Blender being a personal favorite of mine, even if I'm not adequate in 3D design). You lose a "real" copy, the suit, in favor of a more permanent digital copy that survives all of eternity.. Well, until the sun goes supernova and destroys Earth in its entirety in a several billion years.

There are two mutos. I'm just speculating that "Muto" is just the word for "mutant" monsters created by man. I think they just don't want the military to use the word "monster" as it doesn't sound very official, but neither does mutos, which could very well just be codename for monsters.

He also did [i]The Ides of March[/i] (one of my favorite soundtracks of his), [i]The Curious Case of Benjamin Button[/i], [i]The King's Speech[/i] and [i]Argo[/i]. Those last two movies were nominated for best score. I think it's interesting Edwards went with him instead a typical blockbuster composer like Brian Tyler, Hans Zimmer, Ramin Djwadi...etc...etc... Desplat isn't quite as grandiose as those names, but he has a real, genuine sense of detail in his work. I'm looking forward to hearing what kind of theme he comes up with for [i]Godzilla[/i].

^This. Although I'm sure much of the movie is edited, post-production refinements and visual effects take a long time to complete. There's definitely footage to show off, but does it look good enough to pile in a trailer? Who knows... Regardless I wouldn't expect a new trailer on November 3rd. Or November 6th when [i]Thor 2[/i] comes out. Hell, I'd bank more money that it would be with the next [i]Hobbit[/i] film, but I wouldn't be shocked if it's not there either. I hope though.

I am hoping that they keep making Godzilla movies. I don't know about the CGI thing though because I do remember a rumor that TOHO wanted legendary to use at least some suit acting in the new movie.

Yeah, totally beat me to the punch Chris. I don't believe Muto is the NAME of the monster, so much as the name of the type of monster. Possibly an abbreviation of mutant or mutation. Like Pacific Rim had a Kaiju called Knifehead. Godzilla 2014 will have a Muto called.....TBD. There being multiple Mutos, I really hope they are different kinds, and not something silly, like a large swarm of the same kind like we saw in Godzilla vs Megagarius. Anyways, just my 2 cents.

I feel that Gareth should introduce some of the old monsters like King Ghidorah or Mothra. It would be too soon for a DAM sequel with all of the monsters we know because non-Godzilla fans who see the movie won't know who the monsters are right away. This is just my opinion.

It's actually Alexandre Desplat. he did the music for Zero Dark Thirty, New Moon and the last two Harry Potter movies. I like his style of music and I think he will do a great job composing the music.

I wouldn't put any money on that date. The only time I'm positive they'll have trailers showing is during Superbowl weekend. Everything up until then is mere speculation in my opinion. Even though the Superbowl idea is also mere speculation, it'd just be smart on Legendary and Warner Bros. part to do that. While we're still about 8 or 7 months away from release date by the time Nov. 3 comes along, and in my opinion, it's still a bit too early to just start throwing trailers out. Even if they have one or two made. Although they weren't critical successes, Cloverfield and the '98 Godzilla did pretty good financially speaking, and most of the people who watched the movies were hoping to see whether or not they were right about their speculations. Godzilla 2014 has been in post production for only a few months now. It's no where near completed in terms of editing, and fixing issues with certain things with the editing or special effects. If they do release anything on November 3rd, it'll be either the 2012 test footage or 2013 edited version of the 2012 footage. But I don't think they'll have an official trailer release anytime soon.

Right? Everyone needs to take some of Gareth's implied statements with a grain or two of salt. He really just said that it might be a possibility, something he'd maybe consider doing. I agree, Kiryu26snake. However, Toho already, in a sense, recreated Destroy All Monsters with Final Wars. Toho itself will probably make a Godzilla movie a few years after we Americans are done with the franchise, which may be just a one movie sort of thing, or a maybe we make a trilogy. Who knows? Either way, Toho will probably go on making more sooner or later.

First I want to see how the new Godzilla turns out to be. Then I think they shouldn't remake Destroy All Monsters. It's classic and should stay classic. I would like it more if TOHO would make some new Godzilla movies in the future.

There is no guarantee or confirmation that there will be a new trailer on November 3rd. It's all speculation. People shouldn't be upset if we don't have a new teaser by then when it's the fans that started this rumor themselves.

You're right. He implied the possibility at Comic Con, but never said it would be a sure-fire thing he'd do.

I could have sworn that there was a topic description on this thing that said "Director Gareth Edwards had implied that he'd be interested in making Monster Island movie, like DAM. I never meant to make it seem as if the possible Godzilla sequel will without a doubt be like DAM, no. Not at all. It was just an sort of hinted idea Gareth had probably been playing around with in his head.

I think it would be a smart idea to hav a Destroy All Monters remake,But I think it will be better if they do spin off's.Because if the next godzilla movie is DAM it wont be as good .If Gareth Edwards does good Toho might give him other rights to other monsters: Mothra,Rodan,ect.It would then be amazing.Mabye at the end of every spin off they can show a scene after the credits on how they capture these terrifiyning beasts and put them on Monster Island....The End?

Now remember, edwards said he liked the monster island aspect of destroy all monsters, keep that in mind. But anyways, a DAM style sequel would be great. I cant see why it would be a bad idea. It would give a bigger threat to us and Godzilla instead of just repeating a new monster who just appears out of nowhere. As long as everything else, characters, stories, are also taken to a new level which shouldnt be a problem for Gareth.

Depending on the tone they use I could see a DAM type movie but it's have to be a third movie. The only reason DAM and final wars, to a lesser extent, worked was because the monsters were all known and fans wanted to see them together. To throw a bunch of new monsters who aren't established or known wouldn't have the same effect. I am happy it's being thought of though as that means the type of tone I'm hoping the movie will go for would have to be met to follow it up with this type of movie.
