Your biggest worry for G-2014?

Although this is one of my most highly anticipated movies in a long time, is there anything about the Godzilla 2014 you fear could disappoint? For me it would likely be the tone. Too many films tease or advertise themselves as one thing and end up something else. (i.e. Man of Steel, looked like quite a somber yet potentially powerful film when I first saw the teaser...it wasn't. I enjoyed it but it was not what it initially advertised itself as.) My point is the same could be said for Godzilla. The trailer was dark, moody and quite serious. That's what I want for this film, the tone and look in the trailer. If I want fun I'll watch Pacific Rim. I know there's a theme for darker movies these days but for this film is something I want. I want it to be gritty, catastrophic and almost scary. Make the dark allegory that was the basis for the creature have sway. What I'm worried is while the trailer did that just right, might the film divert and try too hard to look cool (again, like Man of Steel)? That's my worry, or is everyone definitively positive and I'm just being a pessimist? (cant blame me concerning Hollywood and movies in this day and age though haha)

Well, there is the off chance that a few points in the movie might deviate too much from the suffering and despair that should be seen throughout with the human characters,as well as the inevitable battle between Godzilla and his mutant foes possibly being too spectacular in display, but other than that I think we don't have much to fear.

That it will try to take a tone that is too serious and realistic. At heart the movie is about godzilla and a certain amount of fun should be had. Other than that there's always the potential for weak human characters

I the biggest thing im worried about is...well how Gareth Edwards said that there would be no fantastical elements and how he was talking about doing destroy all monsters for the sequel but then again if he's talking about DAM Then I guess there isn't much to fear...

I'm sort of worried that there'll be comic relief and a subtle campiness undertoning the seriousness of the movie. I think I just Don King-ed that whole sentence. Jesus! xD

My two main worries are that 1) There isn't enough Godzilla, or 2) They kill Godzilla by the end of it.

I know this film will be awesome. My main worry is how well it does in the box office. I'm scared it will be overshadowed by all the other blockbuster films coming out. Honestly, Godzilla is the ONLY film in 2014 I'm looking forward towards besides Interstellar. I'm also scared that it will suffer the same fate as Pacific Rim, where it came out on the same day of a crappy comedy. I made me so furious knowing how many people had that "I'd rather see this shitty film instead of this original yet awesome film" mentality. I think Godzilla stands a better chance cause it's a name, but still. Godzilla's time IS NOW!!!!! This is his chance to shine! Batman, Superman, and every other superheroes (looking at you Marvel, spotlight hoggers!!) already had their time in the spotlight. Now is time for the King of The Monsters to take back his throne!!! The time of the Kaiju is NOW!!!

hey DURPOO4!! Are you freaking serious??? Your worried about this movie being to "realistic"? And not enough "fun"?? Look man if you want stupid campy fun , watch Godzilla vs Megalon or Godzilla's revenge. there is plenty of "fun" in those movies. Did you see the trailer? Is there anything fun about bodies lying all around near a smashed train? this movie isn't for you then...stick to the 70's Godzilla films. The rest of us are ready to see Godzilla presented the way he was always supposed to be. The most apocalyptic force that has ever walked the earth. And I don't think that makes for a "fun" situation. Time for people to grow up and realize that the time for nonsense is over. Thank you Gareth Edwards for making the most "realistic" Godzilla movie ever.

MIKETHEG7453 sorry to burst your bubble, and everyone who is on this dark, realistic hype train, but that stupid campy fun is what made godzilla. Godzilla's been in 28 movies and all of them except arguably the original didn't try to be realistic. Their tones differed throughout but they never tried to be a realistic movie and were all campy fun to a point. This realism thing that's sweeping through hollywood needs to go away look at Man of Steel. Oh let's do a realistic superman. What happened? It did well at the box office but had average to negative reviews for the most part. Some things don't need realism attached to them. A Giant radioactive firebreathing dinosaur that is indistructable that fights aliens, robots, and mutants is 1 of those things, and to give it realism and grit will only further it from the already established and expected character that's been developed in the past 60 years. A serious tone is fine, but throwing realism with godzilla has so many possible flaws I can't name them all. The only reason the grit and realism worked so well in the first is that the director, and cast had actually lived through and experienced the thing they were basing the monster off. They saw first hand the destruction, and aftermath and were able to make a movie with a tone that reflected that. Can a director that has no real prior credentials and no experience first hand with what he's basing the monster off pull off the same well done atmosphere and tone? Possibly sure but we can't really argue things we don't know. I didn't ask for a child's movie like Godzilla's revenge, or Godzilla vs Megalon, I asked that the director keep in mind this is Godzilla and he has been built through that campyness an fun, and if they truly want to not stray from the character then they will realize what 96% of his movies have done so far and see some amount of fun should be included. If you disagree whatever but last time I checked the title of this was "Your biggest worry for G-14" it's not "MIKETHEG7453 biggest worry for G14 and what he wants it to be"

Well,if the possibility of a "Destroy All Monsters" sequel remains strong, then we can get our monster brawling action satisfied then. However,in order to set up the overall power of Godzilla,I think a more serious and foreboding tone is necessary. We need to understand that a more serious tone is probably the best way to showcase Godzilla as someone you don't f**k with. Also,in terms of realism, this article here http://www.angelfire.com/ego/g_saga/kaijubiologyarticle.html is quite insightful with regards to the possibility of Kaiju like Godzilla.

I have only had one fear throughout this, and im gonna have to be honest, my only fear was that it would be too dark. But thankfully, all the trailers and interviews have made it clear it wont be. And there needs to be campiness, and im more than sure there will be campyness. This movie isnt dark, its that perfect combination i call; Godzilla.

I really don't think the realism part is being totally understood here. I believe that Gareth will manage to keep certain elements of Godzilla fully intact. Fire breathing, indestructible, enormous size, etc. I believe that He wants to show the total chaos that the arrival of Godzilla would represent. Countless loss of life, billions in damage, world resources running dangerously thin. Countless wounded and homeless, environmental issues i.e. radiation exposure. Issues that have not always been given the proper weight or seriousness. Besides the original of course. I'm ready to see this taken to a whole new level. It's about damn time.

Well said REGGIE1138. Glad to see others on here are ready for a serious take on Godzilla. Not the "fun" and "cheesiness " that others on here are hoping for.

Sorry, gonna have to say something here, but you DURP004 wan't to see a dark, seriouse yet "fun" Godzilla film? That to me sounds about as stupid as you find the plot for GMK. Also, I think it's bollocks to say that Godzilla only became famous because of his campy commercialization. Ever concidered that the popularity of the first film(and they Reymond Burr remake) were the reason TOHO wanted to market the beast? Overall the Heisei series of films has proven to be the most popular among Godzilla fans. That's right, the series that re-established Godzilla as a force of nature and hardly catered to the campy oddysees of the Showa era. In fact, I'd say the most popular Godzilla films of all time are the ones that took a more serious tone(including GMK whether you like that film or not DURP004). The most popular Showa are pretty much Destroy All Monsters and maybe Godzilla vs King Kong It's also worth mentioning that it was most of the Showa film that tanked the most at the box office. And I don't see how Godzilla being put alongside recent comic book films that took a similar tone is a bad thing. No, the audience is ready for Godzilla as he should be. If you wan't some campy mess of a plot with Godzilla action thrown in the mix then watch Final Wars or something. Now as for my concerns for the film it's self, as I mentioned on the recent interview vid, I'm worried we'll get another film like Monsters again where the focus was mainly human drama.

MemberBaragonOct-18-2013 6:30 PM
REALLY???? I MEAN REALLY? LOL watch the heisei era, time travel, mysticism, human souls in monsters, a giant robotic kaiju, monsters from space. All of that was part of the heisei, and all of it are things that won't and can't be included in this new series thanks to the stupid realism tag that has been placed on in. You seem to associate fun with child movies, and that it 100% wrong. Pacific rim had a fun tone and didn't cater only to children. Most of the millennium godzilla movies had a fun tone. Even GMK had states of disbelief. Did I ask for a campy child's film? No, for the third time, I asked for 1 that acknowledges it's a godzilla film and only a certain extent of realism can be had. That's why I love and praise the heisei era so much. It had a dark and serious tone but never once tried to be anything but godzilla, and that included all the b movie aspects.(already listed) Would you have enjoyed Godzilla vs King ghidorah as much if time travel was thrown out? How about mothra just being a mutant moth?

Samzilla 14

MemberMothra LarvaeOct-18-2013 7:14 PM
Um, did you ever watch Godzilla 84? Or Godzilla vs Destroyer where Godzilla fucking DIES? Seemed pretty dark and serious to me. But I think I get it now, you just don't like the fact that all the space travel mystic bollocks can't be crammed in there which sounds rather hypocritical of you considering you dislike Mothra. A Godzilla film does not need to be mired in the unreal. And yes, I wouldn''t have given two shits if the time travelling aspect of Godzilla vs King Ghidorah would have been omitted since that was a pretty hackneyed and confusing plot device anyway.

Yes because the flying laser shooting craft in 1985 wasn't Bmovie reminiscent,. How about the soldiers fighting aggregate destroyahs, or how Godzilla junior is still not aggressive towards humans. Love how you point out the heisei and I show you how the vast majority have b movie aspects you try to defend with the 2 you believe don't as though those 2 movies are the only reason the heisei series is loved. Once again I have no problem with a dark realistic tone as long as it has a degree of fun and b movie aspects. Me disliking mothra has nothing to do with this but since you brought it up I'll clarify from a character standpoint mothra is fine, but stripping the mysticism away from her puts her on the same level as kamacuras and kumonga as just a stupid giant bugs. My problem with mothra lies in the fact she can't lose according to toho. Just to show you a little fact, King kong vs Godzilla either sold more tickets or made more money than any other godzilla movie, Mothra vs Godzilla(showa) is often praised by fans and critics as 1 of the best entries in the series, and The hackneyed confusing plot(according to you of course) of Godzilla vs King Ghidorah brought the heisei back after Godzilla vs Biollante didn't do as well as expected and is the reason The the 2 following sequels to it also brought back his most known foes. What do all those Godzillas have in common, despite the praise and good box office they've gotten? Well they're all extremely campy or B movie like. So yes the next movie should have fun aspects, it should have campy scenes and it should try not to to be so engrossed in the realism it's trying to pass off that it forgets this is about a Giant firebreathing dinosaur that have gotten through 60 years of being essentailly the star of glorified b movies. Did i demand a campy, child catering, space movie? No, just that you really inspect the content you're using to see how realistic and dark you can take it before falling back to what it has been for most of it's career.
