Durp004Godzilla 2014 ForumYour biggest worry for G-2014?Oct 16, 2013
That it will try to take a tone that is too serious and realistic. At heart the movie is about godzilla and a certain amount of fun should be had. Other than that there's always the potential for weak human characters

Well, there is the off chance that a few points in the movie might deviate too much from the suffering and despair that should be seen throughout with the human characters,as well as the inevitable battle between Godzilla and his mutant foes possibly being too spectacular in display, but other than that I think we don't have much to fear.

Having him be vengeful souls would be fine if they didn't also go with the Radiated dinosaur. Having both, but not being clear on which it is was a dumb idea. If he's the souls leave it at that, if he's the radiated dinosaur then there. You can't throw both in the mix when they are 2 completely different things and then not be clear as to which he is.
There was so rivalry between Ghidorah and Godzilla in that move as Godzilla was always winning. There was never 1 second that it even seemed Ghidorah had the upper hand. Giving some1 a new role isn't necessarily a good idea if it doesn't work and this one didn't. Putting in 2 popular monsters who don't fit the plot over the originals is a very dumb idea from a story telling standpoint. Sure it made no money, but at the expense of 2 known monsters getting dragged through the mud, and put in roles they didn't fit.
This movie tried to do too many things. Throw in mysticism while not being clear about it. Throwing in the most overused Godzilla enemies in yet another movie despite plot and director views going against it, and trying to honor the original with a sacrifice without actually sacrificing the character and having Godzilla die in the stupidest way thus far, granted his hearts still beating in the end despite just being a heart and having no blood to direct, but just overall so many problems with this movie. If I saw 0 other Godzilla movies and watched it then I probably wouldn't have had as much of a problem with it but as some one that's seen all of them this was underwhelming especially as a movie that it hailed as 1 of the best.
Definitely not 1 of the best, the most you could argue it towards was maybe middle of the pack.

ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla's 2014 Size DiscussionOct 16, 2013
I was about to post something just like this last night, but I timed out or something. Anyways, 120-150 m is what many people speculate, having seen the official and teaser trailers at SDCC. So, yeah, somewhere between roughly 400 to 500 ft tall is the standing range speculated.
ReplyTheGMan123Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla's 2014 Size DiscussionOct 16, 2013
Given the height of previous incarnations of Godzilla and his own enemies,I'd say something around 120m-140 meters is in order. I don't like the imperial system since it seems so jumbled up to me,so I'm sticking with those measurement scales. But either way,he should be noticeable from a distance, seem like a mountain to a small town, and also be able to sneak (weird word to use?) around the highest skyscrapers in the biggest cities.

Wasn\'t the second kaiju in an airport? This one was either in a subway or anywhere with trains. So I say its a third Kaiju. Though I do still have trouble finding out what type of bug it is. All I can see is a giant foot(its not godzilla, looks insect like) that was black and had scales with claws. But it looked like a bug/reptile hybrid from my perspective. But I will look at it as many times as I can and let you G fans know if I see anything new. Yes I understand its hard to see the leg through all the debris but if you look really closely you can see it. All I can say now is that it wasn\'t spider like. Thats all the information I have for you guys today. Also I think the main character in the train scene was Aron Taylor Johnson from kickass.
ReplyG. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumWorst Godzilla movies ever!Oct 16, 2013
GMK the worst? Wow. Hardly. While I agree it's a little overrated by some fans I'd place GMK as one of the best entries in the series behind the top Showa movies.
For starters, the "Godzilla is the souls of Japanese soldiers" is inaccurate. He's a manifestation of those lost during the Pacific War, both American and Japanese-- it never says simply one or the other.
Furthermore, this is not a new idea. Ishiro Honda himself even presumed the original Godzilla was the vengeful embodiment of those lost in the Pacific War. For decades film scholars and critics have assumed that was a symbolic reason for Godzilla's attack. The only thing that GMK did was expand on that idea. I for one am glad they took the character and explored the mysticism behind him. It makes Godzilla that much more eerie and creepy. And most importantly it got away from all the pseudo-science that plagues that last three decades of the series.
Admittedly Mothra and King Ghidorah were monsters too popular for the underdog roles they were put in, but that was Toho's fault. (Angirus and Varan were the original monsters written for the movie.) Regardless, it did help the movie's success and Kaneko was mindful of Godzilla's 35 year relationship with King Ghidorah. While it was odd to see King Ghidorah in such a role, at the very least the rivalry between the two monsters was well built. King Ghidorah was easily the strongest of the guardian monsters and his new role gave the creature something different to do for the first time in three and a half decades. Mothra was pretty much the standard character she's always been, if not a little watered down: A mythical, guardian creature.
While I agree General Tachibana's sacrifice would've been far more effective than the ending we got, I like the idea of Godzilla being killed by his own biology. Although he is of mythical proportions it was made very clear earlier in the movie (by Isayama's ghost) that he is also an animal, and like all living creatures, can be killed. Thus the idea of damaging his body came full circle and Godzilla was defeated by his own biological imbalance.
It's not a perfect movie, but it got people talking differently about Godzilla-- What he means to the Japanese culture, pop culture and how relevant he is in a post-9/11 world. Remember this was mere months after the WTC was attacked. These are ideas that were talked about amongst critics and film professors when the movie was released. Conversation like this didn't spark for any of the other Millennium movies amongst such people.
But on topic to the worst of the worst, my vote is, easily, Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla.
I typically enjoy every Godzilla movie, but Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla has so many script problems and ideas that never go anywhere I don't know where to start. I could fill a novel with the flaws in that movie.
A close second would be Godzilla vs. Megalon, but I'll take it over vs. SpaceGodzilla since it has a more coherent script and is funny as hell.

ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumSPOILERS? Casting question!Oct 16, 2013
Herkame, Godzilla was at his biggest at about 334 ft tall, or 100 meters. Given that Gareth Edwards says his monster will be the biggest yet, but how much bigger? He said it's about the equivalent of adding an antenna to a skyscraper to make it even bigger. I'm guessing Godzilla will be around the 120, 150 meter range, if you're asking about the system Americans use, then it'd be about 131.234 to about 164.042. In "feet", Godzilla will be around 393.701 ft. to about 492.126 ft. I'm guessing the latter, based on how big he's presented as in the "teaser" trailer. The Jaegar, Cherno Alpha, which I believe is one of the bigger Jaegars, is about 85 meters tall, about 280 feet tall. Godzilla (2014) will be easily a hundred feet taller, if not more.

ReplyDeltadromeusGodzilla 2014 ForumYour Original Kaiju?Oct 16, 2013
A bipedal animal, mostly back with some grey. A tail with spikes on both sides. It would be taller than Godzilla, but skinnier, and more hunched over. Huge!!! Arms, they are at least 75% to the ground. It has a fairly short neck, and a head similar to space Godzilla's and king Gidorah's combined. Also, its back has long spikes like a Gastonia's (look it up if you don't know what it is) that get shorter as they go towards his tail. The tail is round, and looks segmented. It is named "Terrazon" oh, and its spiked tail is about as long as it is, and the spikes around 1/10 as long as its tail. Only at the end of the tail does it have sideways pointing spikes.
Well, there you go. My Kaiju

If there are then this movie is going all-out on the devastation and dishing out some harsh sorrow scenes. As for the news itself its the first I've heard of it. Wouldn't the people getting crushed be CGI though? And dead corpses can be done through props and dummies, wouldn't think they would actually go out of their way to actually cast kids for the purpose of lying around dead.
ReplyBCrockett94Godzilla 2014 ForumHidden monster in the second godzilla 2014 teaser trailer.Oct 15, 2013
I know what you're talking about. Basing my speculation on the fact that Godzilla's teeth are too small, and his claws are too big, I'd assumed that it was a second kaiju. Not a big kaiju, or one with long, thin claws or teeth. Based on the fact that the bug monster is much smaller than Godzilla, I think it is very safe to assume that we got a very brief glimpse at the new kaiju.

ReplyInstinctiveGiganGodzilla ForumToho Plans for G? Oct 14, 2013
If Toho is as awesome as I believe they are, THIS film will be Godzilla's future. Godzilla will boost in his likeability and fame even further than Toho ever would've dreamed of with their films. I even like to believe that was their original plan with the 1998 film until it totally bombed. Thus the smart decision would be to have Godzilla remain a Warner Bros. character ever-expanding in fame and awesomeness. But that all depends on the success on this film, both quality and box office-wise. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDurp004Godzilla ForumToho Plans for G? Oct 14, 2013
This is Godzilla's revival. Toho will be the company in charge of distribution in Japan with Warner Bros in charge everywhere else.
I'm sure if this bombs though, like the 1998 American 1, Toho will Gladly start a new era like they did last time to help us forget about it
