I came across an article saying that the 2012 monster was maybe inspired by scientific research done in Japan on how the radiation was affected the ecosystem, specifically silkworms.
However, the monster designs have been updated since 2012. 2013 describes the new monster(s) as being different than the 2012 test footage.

Anchorman 2 is a rated R comedy and the 300 prequel will be a rated R gore fest. Those movies will never in hell be advertised at a Marvel movie. Robocop, yes. That's 5 trailer slots, the only other movie left is Godzilla. The one thing that begs the question is, will there be a 6th.
ReplyDurp004Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2014 - Hopes and Concerns + Thor 2: Expect a Trailer!Oct 29, 2013
Even if going for the same demographic a Robocop remake, the sequel to 300, and Anchorman 2 are all coming out and all have earlier release dates than Godzilla.
There are plenty of movies who would more than likely take the spot in the preview section for a big movie like Thor 2, and trust me all those companies want a big movie to release trailers on I would be highly surprised to see Godzilla take it over the others.
ReplyInstinctiveGiganGodzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2014 - Hopes and Concerns + Thor 2: Expect a Trailer!Oct 29, 2013
Well if there's around 3 other previews then Godzilla is one of them. At big hit movies you wanna show about the same demographic at your movie, thus the superhero movies being advertised at a superhero movie. The only movie besides Marvel ones I can think of that Thor will advertise is the 2nd Hobbit. I still say expect Godzilla, releasing him at Thor would get people interested enough for them to start showing the trailer at other movies like Enders Game and the Hobbit.

Godzilla`s Revenge. Yeah, alot of people have already mentioned it, but i wanna give my own statement. This was one i had a hard time finding and first here in 2013 i manage to get it and watch it. I had expected to litteraly HATE the movie. And you know what? I loved it. Heck, even the kid character was great, and i usually hate them. The turmoil of his shyness and his everyday life seems legit. This was a great idea, the problem is most people saw it as a traditionel Godzilla movie, and as that it sucks. But it isnt. Its an interestinmg look into the mind of a little kid, a very imaginative kid which just makes these ideas so great.
And to everyone who sees the 98 movie as misunderstood, dont worry, it isnt. We understand it. We understand that its 100 % crap.
ReplyDurp004Godzilla ForumMost misunderstood Godzilla movie??Oct 29, 2013
To be fair the same could be said for most Godzilla movies if you looked at them as a critic rather than as a fan.
Story wise was the 98 version worse than some of the toho 1s? God no; effects wise it was fine for the time. Characters weren't any more memorable or forgettable than most.
I mean stacking it up against the best Godzilla movies it crumbles, but against the worst it holds it ground better than most fan would like to admit.

Okay, i know ive posted here already, but i have thought about the idea. If youre willing to look by the monstrous disaster Godzilla causes you COULD have a show. But there is stuff they should remember;
No teens. Oh god, no teens. Kids are okay, but no teens. They find their way to ruin so much.
Godzilla shouldnt be some idiots pet like a certain other giant monster cartoon did it. A team of people who simply follow and study him, like the team from Godzilla 2000 would be great.
If they could follow these rules and look past what i stated above then a cartoon MIGHT work, its not certain. We have yet to see a good Godzilla animated series.

ReplyDurp004Godzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla 2014 - Hopes and Concerns + Thor 2: Expect a Trailer!Oct 29, 2013
I don't think there will be a trailer at Thor. If anything the Marvel movies take away that chance.
At the average movie I go to see there are roughly 5 trailers, and with marvel movies occupying 3 of these spots it makes it even less likely for Godzilla to appear. Sure in terms of release date he's close to those movies, but marvel Movies ALWAYS show marvel movies before every1 else, and that leaves roughly 2 to 3 spots after them up for grabs.
Unfortunately there are plenty of big name movies coming out between Thor and Godzilla who are likely to take these spots over the big guy.
Could we see the trailer? Sure but i think the Marvel movies previews are just a much evidence we won't as we will.
ReplyGreenZilla93Godzilla 2014 ForumMechagodzilla in the sequel!Oct 29, 2013
On a fan boy level, I want the sequel to have Mecha G, King Ghidorah, and several other Toho Kaiju, but from a more realistic standpoint, I'd guess Mecha G could only appear in a sequel if enough time passes between movies, or if the first one isn't as "dark and realistic" as we're being led to believe. That being said, I wouldn't mind if they make another original kaiju for a sequel, but I would be extremely disappointed if there isn't a Toho one in it as well. Obviously redesigned to fit the theme and style of the movie, but still recognizable. And no, I don't think it would come across as Legendary/ WB/ Gareth/ whoever shamelessly trying to copy what Toho has done, but rather be more like honoring them. Also, you can't tell me that if you were in the theaters opening night and you see your favorite villain show up that you wouldn't be super excited. Heck, I get teary-eyed just thinking of the possibility of Destroyah happening

I definitely think that your idea seems possible, and i do like it, i have to disagree with the Mecha Godzilla as the end game/last movie enemy. I would have to assume that Ghidorah would be the last enemy Godzilla faces, assuming that Legendary wants to use Toho monsters. He's basically Godzilla's arch enemy, and almost always takes more than just Godzilla to take him down. I mean, Mecha Godzilla is almost, if not more iconic than Ghidorah, but I just feel like Ghidorah is more of a final villain. But that's just my opinion.

I'm not saying you're wrong. Not at all. It just seems like that's the only thing people on this site post whenever Monster Island is brought up. Almost word for word.
This post was basically me asking if you think my idea would work. Not if the preconceptions of a monster island movie could work. You seem to be answering the latter, and without any mention of the content within my post, it's easy to assume you just skipped to the comment section after reading the words "monster island".

The 98 Godzilla of course. I mean by monster movie standards to leagues ahead of most, and even as a godzilla movie it wasn't bad. The only problems were how weak they made godzilla, and not giving him his nuclear breath.
I mean the babies were kind of bad, but it was just a fun scene, and I enjoyed that part of the movie more than I ever enjoyed any scene with Minilla in it from the original showa scene.
Who knows, if toho wouldn't have gotten greedy and let tristar come up with their own monster instead of telling them no they had to buy rights to another toho monster the movie could've been even better.

Hmm, while I'm okay with a monster island idea, and think it could work I can't see it working with the same dark gritty realistic approach they're going for with the upcoming movie.
However if they're willing to change the tone(or hopefully realise this shouldn't even be tried to portrayed as realistic) the it could work, and probably be pretty good.
A monster island idea could go a lot of directions, it could be as simple as them filling an island with pheromones that attract all the monsters to it and have a huge brawl, without going in too much of a b movie direction.

I really don't see Mechagodzilla being a second movie sort of thing, or any mech for that matter, original or Toho. If anything, third or fourth movie, and that's only if Legendary decides to use any Toho creations.
Simply because I see Mechagodzilla as the endgame. In each of the machine's appearances, it has come pretty damn close to killing Godzilla, and once it succeeded, if you consider the ending of Tokyo: SOS as Godzilla dying.
There are only three instances, that I remember, where Godzilla actually dies. Gojira, Godzilla v. Destoroyah, and Tokyo: SOS. (four if you count the TriStar movie).
In Gojira, Godzilla is killed by the oxygen destroyer, a manmade weapon that would never really happen in the real world. Godzilla v. Destoroyah, he dies via meltdown. Tokyo: SOS has Godzilla's ultimate fate up for debate, although it is more than implied that Godzilla died as a result of Kiryu (MG3), making Mechagodzilla the only "monster" that succeeded in killing Godzilla (again, if you consider the ending of that movie as Godzilla dying). Most people don't count Godzilla dying at the end of King Kong v. Godzilla as a real death, although he is defeated.
So that's why I believe that IF they bring Mecha G into the Legendary movies, then it would be more of an endgame for a third or fourth movie. However, I will still see if I can find a good enough reason for them to put MechaGodzilla in the movies, because MechaG is my favorite Godzilla enemy and I would absolutely LOVE to see Legendary's take on Godzilla's metal doppelganger.

I know I'm probably incredibly wrong on this, but I get this feeling that these 2 new monsters turn up just before or right at the emergence of Godzilla (the king), battle it out very early in the movie. In which the movie then somewhat follows the original movie of Godzilla destroying cities, and capturing the dark atmosphere of the original. Either way, I cannot wait

It could be done. But the real question is "should it be done". I think a serious "cartoon" could work to fill in the gaps between movies, if there will be another movie, introduce some characters, and kill some off. I've seen some pretty serious "cartoons" that have little to no comic relief, and turned out to be amazing. If, for whatever reason, they do make a cartoon series, I hope it's very serious, and relatively short. Also, the artwork would have to be pretty damn good so it could be taken more seriously. I wonder what station it would be broadcast on, maybe Syfy.
I dunno, in my opinion, it'd have to be a mini series that bridges the gaps between movies, provided that there will be sequels, and be pretty serious in overall tone, with little to no comic relief. Something that still presents Godzilla as a threat and not an ally would, in my mind, be the only way to do it.

I had similar thoughts about the movie that would make the traditional version of a Godzilla cartoon hard, but then I got a new idea.
1: Godzilla is the main character (being a cartoon, we can hear his/her thoughts and her 'language' is kaiju to humans of the show but [insert your native language here] to the audience).
2: To have a human element, say this human teenager is the only one who can hear and talk to Godzilla (and the other kaiju). He not only provide the life lessons to children (some times it will be Godzilla who does this) but also tries to be a diplomat for us. If Godzilla believes we are harming nature in our attempts to control it (thus earning Godzilla's wrath), then he could teach how to better live in the world (progress without to much harm to the planet).
3: Naturally we'd have monster fights, but also have human enemies. You know the profile, power hunger, brilliant mind, and the forces to pull off his schemes. He wants to control Godzilla, and his/her human friend to gain the ability to talk to Kaiju (the only other human at start of the series who knows of his ability).

Hmmn.....that's a tough one. On the one hand,it could allow an even wider audience to be reached in a format that's understandable, perhaps like the animated Godzilla universe version of Breaking Bad. On the other, securing such a tone in animated form is quite difficult, and only a few series have done it successfully. We'll really just have to wait and see. But,seeing as how Godzilla is making a comeback in international theatres and is actually possible in the real world with the knowledge we've compiled,I'll reserve judgment for the time being.

@DURP004 Nothing's impossible. I mean if this Godzilla film is everything Gareth says it will be, we'll be looking at a professional, well-told Godzilla film which I guarantee no one would've said after Final Wars years ago. If effort is put into, this could work somehow. Think of it this way, if Legendary came to YOU to write an animated series for this Godzilla film, would you not do so much research and try so hard to tell an age appropriate story for all ages about Godzilla that you'd go insane? I know I would.
Yes, it's hard. Yes, it's practically impossible. But impossibility can go jump of a cliff for all I care. If you pretend you're in a world where impossibility doesn't exist, you will be in that very world. Shoot for the stars, and you might hit one; shoot for nothing, you'll always hit it. Effort, love, and dedication would make the perfect dark, Godzilla series.

I don't see that, sure there are the rare gems that manage to get both crowds, but for the most part the 2 go for different things; very different things and while some shows are able to encompass them together I don't see a Godzilla show being 1 of them.
Having a movie that is mature is 1 thing as adults will take their children to see it once, enjoy it themselves and be done for the most part, but a show requires repeated viewing, and I doubt you'd see any adults or even people in their later teens tuning in for a show if not because their children or younger siblings ask them to. Just like you wouldn't, for the most part, see an adult sit down to watch a disney movie alone if it didn't have a form of nostalgia related to it.
If they do a show It'd have to have a different tone than the movie or chances are they'd lose both crowds from spending too much time trying to please both instead of going for 1 and being happy with it.
Doing a mature show that would still have the same tone would have to try to grab the adult crowd and that's just something that can't be done as action/adventure cartoons go.
ReplyInstinctiveGiganGodzilla 2014 Forum2014 Godzilla cartoon series discussionOct 28, 2013
@DURP004 Now I don't believe that. Is it more mature then your average monster show? Yes. But Land Before Time was a pretty damn mature movie about Dinosaurs for kids. If you make a cartoon with the hopes of impressing kids and adults at the same time you'll do just that. Now that idea was from the top of my head but I do believe if professional writers did a story like this, it would be a masterpiece kids everywhere can enjoy, especially in the nowadays generation
