I thought the storyline was good. They shouldn't have called it Godzilla though- because THAT was not Godzilla for all the reasons above.
KyeroGodzilla 2014 ForumGodzilla,s Height revealed?Dec 11, 2013Reply
I wish I could share your enthusiasm guys, but I can't.
Godzilla is not going to be over 700' tall. That building that you see in the photo above is not the same building as the one in the trailer, nor are their sizes properly comparable because you never see exactly how tall that skyscraper in the trailer is. You don't know what height the soldier is as he approaches it. Godzilla himself is in the background and being slowly eclipsed by it as the soldier falls which tells us that the skyscraper is a fair bit larger than he is. Even if it's only a few stories, Godzilla is clearly smaller than that final skyscraper in our view.
I have the trailer up right now and have it paused on the only truly clear image of Godzilla going through the city whne the lightning flashes, and you still can't see the ground nor exactly how tall some of the other buildings are to properly judge distances or altitude. Godzilla's size is a complete mystery at this point, but 779' tall is outright ridiculous. I don't know where you got that idea or why, but he's not going to be that tall. Even Gareth Edwards stated that he's going to be the tallest to date, but that his height would not push too many boundaries.
From what little is visible in the trailer, a much more accurate estimate based on what buildings we can see clearly from the soldier's point of view and where we can speculate the ground to be based on the smaller visible buildings around them, a better estimate would be between 380-450 feet tall.
Why do I say that?
There is what appears to be between a 30-35 story building off to Godzilla's left as he walks forward towards the end of that bit of the clip. Again, because we can't see the ground there is no way to know for sure how tall that building is. It could be larger, it could be smaller. But as Godzilla approaches he is clearly taller than that building I mentioned, but not by more than about 60-80 feet. That said, Godzilla will be hard pressed to top around 450' at max.
779'? Not so much. Even taking in the suspension of disbelief for the fact that a Kaiju even exists in this movie, let alone be able to support its weight and walk around, any Kaiju at 779' would simply be crushed under its own sheer weight as would any real Kaiju over a certain size. Godzilla is no exception to this fact, no matter how much we love him.

This Godzilla movie is going to be realistic, experimenting on a biological organism? Sure, maybe in a sci-fi movie. We don't have that type of technology. I think the goal is to eradicate the mutos, while keeping it covered up so no one knows about their existence. They were most likely created/awakened from the same A-bomb that created/awakened Godzilla.

The problem with this thread is that you cannot realistically compare one franchise to another. They will always have different elements, different "realities," different fans.
Comparing one movie franchise to another is basically the same as comparing an Oreo to a Chocolate Chip cookie. Both have a different look, a different taste, a different fan base.
Godzilla will always hold a more worldwide appeal than Spiderman will, as Spiderman is an American comic book hero. While most of the world knows about him, he's not as internationally respected for symbolism or achievement. Not only is Godzilla older, but he's by far more interesting because there is no way to truly know about him. You can learn everything about Peter Parker and Spiderman by reading the comics or watching the films, but what do you truly know of Godzilla other than the fact that he's a Kaiju?
Where does he truly come from? What exactly is he? How intelligent is he? What does his bone structure really look like? What do his internal organs look like? What do his muscles look like? How much is muscle and how much is fat? How does he produce the radioactive breath? Is there some kind of special gland or organ that allows it to be produced? Does Godzilla have the kinds of emotions and thought processes that allow him to feel "threatened," "scared," "angry," "happy," "vengeful," and all of that?
In the end, Godzilla will always be more interesting and more appealing because there will ALWAYS be a sense of mystery. With Spiderman, you have a cool superhero, but you know too much about him for him to hold your attention almost indefinitely.
That's one of the reasons that most Godilla fans are so attached to Godzilla. They're still learning about him. They're still trying to discover truth from fiction regarding the monster because everything about him is grey area. You don't have that with Spiderman.

@Whatradioactivity! - I love the edit you made! If it's not too much trouble, I'm going to make a new topic to feature it and point people to you for the credit. I think a lot of fans would find this interesting. :)
@**AL** - I contacted WB asking if it would be okay to post the Comic-Con footage again, which was used as our homepage background here. Just waiting to hear back from them.

I don't think people have forgotten the cultural and historical reasons for the Godzilla movies - that aspect of these movies were not part of my point. But, it was that "campiness" that made Godzilla so likable to so many. It was that campiness that drew people into what could be a reminder - and forwarning.
I also don't think the "campiness" or the poor dubbing is a bad thing - at all. It made the movies fun. I can handle a serious Godzilla story - or one with some humor.

zilla was pathetic as a godzilla, ive heard it said that it would have been fine as the beast from 20,000 fathoms and i agree. also, despite what some thinck, zilla was a far less realistic design, even at its lower wight than any godzilla, it's legs were simply not thick enough to support it. granted, the classic godzilla designs arent realistic, but their thick legs and tripod stance is closer to reality. This new design however, is epic.

I typically don't count the dubbing as a flaw with these films. That's on the American distributors or the international versions, not the original filmmakers.
And while I agree some of that is why the series is popular and endearing, it's a notion that undermines a lot of the earlier films which were pioneering sci-fi adventures for the Japanese film industry back in the day.
The 1960s generally has very good movies, with creative screenwriters and Eiji Tsuburaya pushing the visual effects of the genre into new places. It was never about being realistic, but rather creating its own presentational world that was sufficient unto itself.
It wasn't until Tsuburaya's death that things really took a turn for the worst in the 1970s. That decade got really goofy. The series sort of made a comeback in quality in the 1980s, but the 1990s Godzilla movies probably carry some of the worst script disasters of the series. (although I still enjoy them greatly) Meanwhile, the Millennium series is just kind of... "there".
But there is a much deeper rooted cultural and historical reason these movies, and its genre, were popular beyond the campiness. It's a shame people seem to forget that.
I don't count the 1998 movie as a Godzilla film so it typically gets ignored on any list I make. For me the worst of the worst will always be Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla. The movie was a screenwriting nightmare, the music by Hattori often didn't work, Kawikata's special effects were at his lowest and it attempted to appeal to too many people...

Hey everyone! When that comic con trailer was leaked a few months ago, I was able to download it before Warner Bros could take it down, just so I could keep watching it. When the official trailer was released yesterday, I absolutely loved it. The trailer in itself has nothing wrong with it but I still thought it would be cool to combine the leaked trailer with the official one. There are elements to both trailers that I really like. I played around with a bunch of different combinations in my editing program and I really like what I created. Let me know what you guys think! Did I accidently ruin both trailers? Or did the trailer work? Comment!

Muto isnt a monster guys, its the research team/orgonization in the film, one of the monsters or monster he will be facing is called vishnu. Muto is the research page from mutoresearch.net I dont thing they would call the monster muto and have it M.U.T.O. on the research page. they're trying to hype us up with the research page. But the reasearch team/orgonization isnt a knickname for the other monster/monsters people.

Let's be honest most of the Godzilla movies were bad but the reasons for them being bad became the endearing qualities of these movies. The actors mouths didn't keep up with the words (in translation) the Godzilla costume looked baggy - there were movies where Godzilla danced and spoke.
But, like I said, those things became some of the reasons why these movies are so popular.
Personally I think the worst Godzilla movie ever made - was Godzilla 1998. Why? It didn't look, sound, or behave anything like the Godzillas of the past. It was an attempt to change everything about Godzilla.
