When was Godzilla x Kong 2 announced?
In May of 2024 it was officially announced that a sequel to GxK was in development following the resounding success the film made at the domestic and worldwide box office.

- As early as April 6th, 2025, actress Kaitlyn Denver confirmed filming on the Godzilla x Kong sequel had begun in Queensland, Australia while at a press junket for The Last Of Us season 2.
- Cast grows to include Jack O’Connell, Matthew Modine, Delroy Lindo, and Dan Stevens.

Who is writing the script?
Dave Callaham - one of the screenwriters who worked on Gareth Edwards' Godzilla (2014) - the first film to kick start the infamous Monsterverse franchise was tapped to pen the script for the Godzilla x Kong sequel. His hiring was first reported on by The Hollywood Reporter in May of 2024.
Who will direct the GxK sequel?
Initially thought to be handled once again by Adam Wingard - who directed both Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Wingard actually departed the Monsterverse shortly after the sequel was announced due to scheduling conflicts with another film project. Instead, the next Godzilla / Kong movie will be directed by Grant Sputore - who is known for his work directing the film I Am Mother for Netflix back in 2019.
Grant Sputore is also collaborating with DOP Dan Mindel (Star Wars: Episode IX), production designer Stefan Dechant (Kong: Skull Island), editor J. Schaeffer (Godzilla x Kong, Molly’s Game), VFX supervisor Kelly Port (Spider-Man: No Way Home) (source).
What will the next Monsterverse movie be about?
The official plot synopsis for the next Godzilla / Kong film has not yet been released and details currently remain tightly under wraps. Originally, before his departure Adam Wingard was eager to conclude the Godzilla / Kong saga with one more film, focusing more on Godzilla's story this time and previously alluding to drawing inspiration from the Toho film Godzilla vs. Destoroyah.
However, with the change of directors, it's possible this direction may have changed. As we learn more information this page will be updated.
The most recent update about the film's plot came from a Deadline report which claimed that the new movie is described as a continuation of the franchise centering Godzilla, Kong and an assortment of other Titans. Insiders say that while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters.
New updates and officially announced title suggest the film could see the introduction of SpaceGodzilla or another cosmic threat!

Will the new movie focus more on Godzilla or Kong?
While Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire definitely favored the Kong storyline and his Dominion of Hollow Earth, the sequel will be focused more on Godzilla. While both Kong and Godzilla will have to team up against a new colossal threat, the general emphasis is expected to focus more on Godzilla's side of the story this time around.

The official theatrical release date for the next Monsterverse movie and sequel to Godzilla x Kong - Godzilla x Kong: Supernova has officially been announced by Legendary for March 26th, 2027.
