MIKETHEG7453 sorry to burst your bubble, and everyone who is on this dark, realistic hype train, but that stupid campy fun is what made godzilla. Godzilla's been in 28 movies and all of them except arguably the original didn't try to be realistic. Their tones differed throughout but they never tried to be a realistic movie and were all campy fun to a point. This realism thing that's sweeping through hollywood needs to go away look at Man of Steel. Oh let's do a realistic superman. What happened? It did well at the box office but had average to negative reviews for the most part. Some things don't need realism attached to them. A Giant radioactive firebreathing dinosaur that is indistructable that fights aliens, robots, and mutants is 1 of those things, and to give it realism and grit will only further it from the already established and expected character that's been developed in the past 60 years. A serious tone is fine, but throwing realism with godzilla has so many possible flaws I can't name them all. The only reason the grit and realism worked so well in the first is that the director, and cast had actually lived through and experienced the thing they were basing the monster off. They saw first hand the destruction, and aftermath and were able to make a movie with a tone that reflected that. Can a director that has no real prior credentials and no experience first hand with what he's basing the monster off pull off the same well done atmosphere and tone? Possibly sure but we can't really argue things we don't know. I didn't ask for a child's movie like Godzilla's revenge, or Godzilla vs Megalon, I asked that the director keep in mind this is Godzilla and he has been built through that campyness an fun, and if they truly want to not stray from the character then they will realize what 96% of his movies have done so far and see some amount of fun should be included. If you disagree whatever but last time I checked the title of this was "Your biggest worry for G-14" it's not "MIKETHEG7453 biggest worry for G14 and what he wants it to be"

^^^^ I second that. The GhidoGoji/BioGoji is my favorite suit of all time. That is exactly what I think of when I hear the word Godzilla. A close second is the 84 Goji. That was the very first movie I ever saw of Godzilla and I had to of been only 4 or 5 and was hooked ever since. The Millennium suit comes in third, specifically the MireGoji suit. I think the most recent related post was about four days ago. Legendary has stated, explicitly I might add, that all monsters, save Godzilla, will be original. Now, if you're talking about a potential sequel, then I'd have to say either Gigan, Ghidorah, or Bagan. But, if you're talking about the 2014 movie, please familiarize yourself with previously made discussions. Your topic may or may not have been discussed recently. Again, welcome to the forum. hey DURPOO4!! Are you freaking serious??? Your worried about this movie being to "realistic"? And not enough "fun"?? Look man if you want stupid campy fun , watch Godzilla vs Megalon or Godzilla's revenge. there is plenty of "fun" in those movies. Did you see the trailer? Is there anything fun about bodies lying all around near a smashed train? this movie isn't for you then...stick to the 70's Godzilla films. The rest of us are ready to see Godzilla presented the way he was always supposed to be. The most apocalyptic force that has ever walked the earth. And I don't think that makes for a "fun" situation. Time for people to grow up and realize that the time for nonsense is over. Thank you Gareth Edwards for making the most "realistic" Godzilla movie ever.

Thank God Bryan Cranston said it was about "nuclear energy" because I was afraid that they would do something about the ice caps melting. Good thing they're remaining true to the original! :D

Only new enemies are being used in this film. No Toho monsters.

My favorite design is the Heisei design, specifically from the Gido-Goji from [i]Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah[/i]. Probably followed by the [i]GMK[/i] suit and the Mosu-Goji from [i]Godzilla vs. Mothra[/i]. Didn't really care for any of the other Millennium suits personally.

Gareth and crew have repeatedly referred to Godzilla as 'he' in interviews. Godzilla is male.

Hm, I geuss thatdidn't extend to the animated series which had plenty of other monsters included, and was actually closer to the real Godzilla then the 98 film ever was.

I'd have to say the GMK suit. The suit used in G x MG, and Tokyo SOS, are a close second.

Can you prove that? Have you seen Godzilla's genitalia? No? I'm also pretty sure that TOHO producers and directors have made the claim that some Godzillas are male, some are female, and some are left ambiguous.

Well,I'm hoping that the scientist characters develop their own theories for his origin,but at the same time I don't really want it to be crystal clear exactly which theory is right (so long as it isn't something convoluted and stupid).

Well, back in 2009, I was a huge fan of 'The Land Before Time.' (Don't blame me, I was only 7!) I learned about this T-rex named 'Red-Claw' and I read that he used the roar of 'The American Godzilla' I was like, "What the heck is a Godzilla?" So, I searched Godzilla on Google, now, I'm addicted. I also originally thought that Zilla was the real Godzilla back then, it's when I started studying him that I found out about the real king.

If he's the souls leave it at that, if he's the radiated dinosaur then there. You can't throw both in the mix when they are 2 completely different things and then not be clear as to which he is.[/i] I don't really understand this logic. Godzilla IS a radiated dinosaur, but what he stands for and symbolizes is typically something different. This is like saying it's okay for Godzilla to only be a force of nature, but not a dinosaur. That doesn't make any sense. The issue is that Godzilla has always been used to represent more than what he is. Simply saying he should've only been a mutated dinosaur dumbs down the character. It's not fair to either fans or filmmakers to make him so one dimensional. [i]There was so rivalry between Ghidorah and Godzilla in that move as Godzilla was always winning. There was never 1 second that it even seemed Ghidorah had the upper hand. Giving some1 a new role isn't necessarily a good idea if it doesn't work and this one didn't. Putting in 2 popular monsters who don't fit the plot over the originals is a very dumb idea from a story telling standpoint. Sure it made no money, but at the expense of 2 known monsters getting dragged through the mud, and put in roles they didn't fit.[/i] Not true. When King Ghidorah gained the ability to fly he launched an energy blast that scarred Godzilla's neck and gave General Tachibana the edge to drill through. He also dragged Godzilla underwater and was smothering him until one of the Satsuma subs accidentally fired a missile into King Ghidorah's face. So there was easily screen time where King Ghidorah had an edge on Godzilla. Granted the roles may have not fit (although Mothra has always been a mystical creature), but Kaneko made the most of it by building King Ghidorah up as the top guardian beast. Besides, it's not the first time King Ghidorah has had a vastly different origin. The Heisei King Ghidorah and [i]Mothra 3[/i] King Ghidorah have very little in common with the Showa version. Not that the fight is what makes the rivalry so intense. King Ghidorah was the last of the beasts Godzilla took on and he kept coming back for more. [i]This movie tried to do too many things. Throw in mysticism while not being clear about it. Throwing in the most overused Godzilla enemies in yet another movie despite plot and director views going against it, and trying to honor the original with a sacrifice without actually sacrificing the character and having Godzilla die in the stupidest way thus far, granted his hearts still beating in the end despite just being a heart and having no blood to direct, but just overall so many problems with this movie. If I saw 0 other Godzilla movies and watched it then I probably wouldn't have had as much of a problem with it but as some one that's seen all of them this was underwhelming especially as a movie that it hailed as 1 of the best.[/i] I have to disagree with a lot of the final assessments here. While the movie has some flaws they're certainly not enough to overshadow what it does well. Granted Toho's decision to use their most popular monsters in this was crude, but hardly a deal breaker. I don't, however, believe Kaneko was ever trying to "honor" the original film with a sacrifice by General Tachibana. If that were the case he would've sacrificed him, otherwise there's nothing there to assume that was the original intent. The thing is, as a person who has also seen the entire series, I felt [i]GMK[/i] was very refreshing. The Heisei series hasn't aged very well and those same stories were practically being revamped by the Millennium series which failed to be as creative as [i]GMK[/i]. [i]GMK[/i] took risks that [i]G2K[/i], [i]Megaguirus[/i] and the [i]Kiryu[/i] movies didn't. It dared to do things that might piss off fans at the expense of telling a fresh story in the series. It paid off. The movie stands out of the last 30 years of redundancy. So if it's only a "middle of the pack" movie, then it's pretty high in the middle.

I know this film will be awesome. My main worry is how well it does in the box office. I'm scared it will be overshadowed by all the other blockbuster films coming out. Honestly, Godzilla is the ONLY film in 2014 I'm looking forward towards besides Interstellar. I'm also scared that it will suffer the same fate as Pacific Rim, where it came out on the same day of a crappy comedy. I made me so furious knowing how many people had that "I'd rather see this shitty film instead of this original yet awesome film" mentality. I think Godzilla stands a better chance cause it's a name, but still. Godzilla's time IS NOW!!!!! This is his chance to shine! Batman, Superman, and every other superheroes (looking at you Marvel, spotlight hoggers!!) already had their time in the spotlight. Now is time for the King of The Monsters to take back his throne!!! The time of the Kaiju is NOW!!!

Godzilla's a boy ok thats why they call him king of the monsters not queen.

Guys theres going to be other sequels to this movie so dont worry about him dying his going to live believe me, i give you my word. And at this point point I have no worries except for a good long trailer that wont be shut down fom every site.

My two main worries are that 1) There isn't enough Godzilla, or 2) They kill Godzilla by the end of it.

I think it, I see "it" because I don't know Godzilla's sex in the 2014 film, will be this sort of monster that's been trapped in ice for eons, and due to the polar ice melting, Godzilla is released and pissed off. So, in short, I'm pretty sure Godzilla will be a Godzilla. lol

As long as they don\'t make him angry souls like a particularly stupid movie I\'ll be pretty happy. Hopefully they just say ancient radiated dinosaur and don\'t try to go to in depth as it will just be stupid. And please god don\'t do the stupid cloverfield cop out that it was at the bottom of the ocean all along and we didn\'t know

I don't have access to any Godzilla film, other than some of the Heisei ones that show up on TV, or some of the Showa ones on Netflix. Oh well. might just dress up as Godzilla into the theater :P

Minilla is sexy guys. JK but I think Hedora looks like a big pile of poop that's been left out in the open for a month. Also: Hedora is made from pollution, which is why he is the ugly mutated feces monster that we all know of today.

From what I understand they had control over monsters included since they told tristar they weren't allowed to use the original monster griffin that was included in early versions of the script
