Per streaming from Godzilla Day, Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex has finally premiered online for fans to see! The short is an officially backed sequel to the 2019 fan film, G vs. G, directed by Takuya Uenishi. The original project was submitted by Uenishi to Gemstone as the winning project of their Godzilla contest. Take a look:
Director Takuya Uenishi worked on the effects of both Shin Godzilla (2016) and Monster Hunter. The opening narration is provided by Megumi Odaka, best known for playing Miki Saegusa in six of the seven Heisei Godzilla movies. (Godzilla vs. Biollante [1989], Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah [1991], Godzilla vs. Mothra [1992], Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II [1993], Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla [1994], Godzilla vs. Destoroyah [1995]). Her narration hints that this could potentially be Godzilla Junior who survived the battle with Destoroyah and takes place in the Heisei series continuity. On the other hand, the "quarter of a century" she speaks of could merely be when his battle in G vs. G took place.
The Godzilla Channel will have the film up for a limited time.
