Although the Alamo Drafthouse will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of Godzilla vs. Hedorah with North American screenings, Toho has their own ideas. On November 3rd, Godzilla's 67th birthday, the Godzilla Festival will premiere a new, live action Godzilla vs. Hedorah short in Japan. On the same day it will drop on Toho's Godzilla Youtube Channel.
You can watch the trailer below:
The short is directed by Kazuhiro Nakagawa who is no stranger to the genre. He was an assistant director on the Attack on Titan live action films, Shin Godzilla and the upcoming Shin Ultraman. Additionally, he directed shorts for Godzilla theme park attractions including, Godzilla vs. Evangelion: The Real 4-D and the zip line attraction, Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji. He's also directed two episodes of Ultraman Z during the pandemic.
Nakagawa shot the new short film on Toho's lot in just over three days using the 2004 Godzilla and Hedorah suits from Godzilla: Final Wars. Fans may also recognize Akira Ifukube's piece from Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah in the trailer.
Get ready for some traditional, tokusatsu action November 3rd between Godzilla and Hedorah in honor of Godzilla vs. Hedorah's 50th Anniversary!
