God, if only it had looked like that in the movie and retained the Ghidorah Program subplot... AND if Honda had stayed alive long enough to direct... What a film it could have been.

Rats, beat me to posting by THAT much! ;) I was holding off until better images became available, but here's some more info on this figure:

This bad boy, unveiled in magazine scans a few days ago, is indeed based on the preliminary design for the Heisei Mechagodzilla to be featured in the 1993 feature film Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II. Designed by Shinji Nishikawa (who is also supervising the creation of this figure), this original take on the iconic mech was far more akin to the design aesthetics of the Showa Mechagodzilla, and would have featured the ability to split into two distinct halves to fight as a duo of mechas, an ability that was ultimately dropped and given to Moguera in the following year's Godzilla vs Spacegodzilla.  This ability can be seen in the concept art below:

Not strictly an SHMA figure, this prototype also falls under the newly christened Tamashii Mix line of figures.  There is no confirmed release or corresponding promo pictures as of yet.  A release date and price, therefore, have yet to be announced.

Wow, even though the movie isn't anything special, the poster for it is my favorite G movie poster.

Really wish this was the mechagodzilla in the movie the design is infinitely better than the one we got imo

Seriously... HOLY $#@%!!!!!!!!

Although no images have yet surfaced online, attendees have confirmed that there is YET ANOTHER NEW SHMA FIGURE ON DISPLAY!  Its probably in a "no camera" zone, but I wouldn't be too surprised if an image popped up sooner or later.

As to what it is, well...

All I'll say is... have your wallets ready.  Space Titanium is expensive. ;)

Even though I have avoided S.H. MonsterArts in the past just because I know they are bad news for my wallet, I might have to make an exception for this figure.

Awesome! I remember the time I tried to draw the poster of this film by just looking at it, but all I got right was the his head and neck. Definitely picking this one up!
