UPDATE: Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle will NOT hit Netflix this Week

UPDATE (6/15/2018): It appears the recent news from The Hollywood Reporter, was misunderstood due to poor/inaccurate wording. The premiere of, "the second installment of its Godzilla anime trilogy later this week," was meant for the Annecy International Animated Film Festival itself.

Furthermore, The Hollywood Reporter was mistaken as to who was premiering the film at the festival. Gormaru Island reports that Polygon Pictures will be responsible for the film's screening.

Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle is still set to premiere on Netflix worldwide, but it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer. Thanks for Gormaru Island and representatives at Wikizilla for discovering the error.

Original Article:
It looks like the timetable for the second Godzilla anime sequel will be a lot sooner than expected. Although, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2018) didn't hit Netflix until nearly two months after its Japanese theatrical release, the sequel, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, appears to be dropping this week!

Gormaru Island, via The Hollywood Reporter, passes word from Netflix's first Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Although no specific date is locked down, the report claims that Netflix is, "set to premiere the second installment of its Godzilla anime trilogy later this week."

Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle opened in Japanese theaters May 18th at #7. It fell out of the box office top 10 after one week. The film stars the voice talents of Mamoru Miyano (Mobile Suit Gundam 00Ultraman Zero: The Movie), Takahiro Sakurai (Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans), Kana Hanazawa (.hack//Quantum), Yuki Kaji (Attack on Titan), Tomokazu Sugita (Attack on Titan), Junichi Suwabe (Space Dandy), Kenta Miyake (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn), Kenyu Horiuchi (BleachOne Piece), Kazuhiro Yamaji (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children), Kazuya Nakai (Dragon Ball Super) and Ari Ozawa (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun). The film is directed by Kobun Shizuno (Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare) & Hiroyuki Seshita (Knights of Sidonia) from a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi (Kamen Rider Gaim).

We'll continue to update as more information becomes available.

The first film in the Godzilla anime trilogy, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is currently streaming on Netflix

The sequel, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle, has been playing in a limited capacity in Japanese theaters.

Godzilla: Eater of Worlds, the third and final film in the Godzilla anime trilogy, hits Japanese theaters November, 2018.

Good. I'm tired of scouring the internet for information.

Unfortunately the Netflix release may still be another month off. There’s a good chance that Hollywood Reporter article was referring to the film’s international premiere at the Annecy Film Festival, and not its Netflix streaming release. It was still worded misleadingly, since it said “Netflix is set to premiere” the film even though it’s really Polygon themselves that will be screening it at Annecy.

So, in other words, just like the first film, we may need to wait just as long (about 2 months) for the sequel to come on Netflix.
