Gormaru Island spent the better part of the day pulling from sources in Japan about an extras-heavy shoot for Godzilla 2016, currently using the working title Shin Gojira. Those at Gormaru Island exhausted themselves with the onslaught of photos from fans—Take a look at what they unearthed:
As recently reported, streets around the Kamata Railway Station were closed down for shooting between 8am-noon. (7pm-11pm EST) Strategically placed cameras and green screens were staged around the crowd of extras as pedestrians outside the production were asked to take alternate paths.
Various video footage shows that the crowd was screaming for their lives from... something. Can't imagine what. Here's a video taken by @88river88 on twitter:
Writer/Director Hideaki Anno was spotted hard at work and Co-Director/Special Effects Director Shinji Higuchi is seen below taking on photo-op duties with fellow fans (who have decided to censor themselves).
The same fan also posted an image of a Godzilla 2016 insulated mug. Is this a glimpse of the new Godzilla design on it? Probably not, but it's worth speculating.
Gormaru Island also reports that the next big location will be the Umeyashiki area, Wednesday September 9th. So fans over the pond can expect more coverage from them Tuesday evening.
Meanwhile, Kanuma-Kanko.jp reports that a future location with a mass of extras will be in Utsunomiya, September 20th. Unlike today's four hour shoot, Utsunomiya will allegedly be all day. More information as it comes.
Once again, massive thanks to Gormaru Island for their hard work, eagle eye and resources. If you want to see more photos and videos of the shoot make sure you head to the Gormaru Island Facebook Page. It's loaded.
