Oh, one more thing. According to this trading/collectible card, Godzilla is 50 meters to start off the film. Which begs to question exactly how tall he will be 20,000 years later. I'm still going on a 250 meter tall Godzilla for this film, which is 820 Feet. However, the attack in Paris could have taken place in like 2050 or something. So, if he's almost as tall as the Eiffel tower in that first picture I presented, if for some reason when they travel 20,000 years into the future, it makes me wonder if he'll actually be a lot taller. Just wanted to point this out. Anyway, here's that card I was talking about.

Hey guys. Ben Chaffins here again with some more footage. Take a look at this link below.

Also, I have some images I'd like to add for those who haven't seen these.

To me these lists seem to show how much respect the showa era gets in japan. The top of the monster list is all monsters that appeared more prominently in it, and its movies make up most of the top 5.
Though seeing the 92 Godzilla vs Mothra is a little strange for me. I know it did well but didn't think the general opinion of it was that high.
Mothra being number 1 is not surprising at all. She's always been Toho's #2.
The original film set the tone for the 1960s and the stories for both King Kong vs. Godzilla and Mothra vs. Godzilla borrow heavily from the original Mothra. Not to mention movies featuring Mothra had the highest box office receipts in both the Heisei and Millennium movies. And of course she has her own movie trilogy from the 1990s.
Mothra resonates a lot with children and women, the latter of which outnumber men in Japan--They tend to gravitate toward the character. Add in her unique backstory, the fact she's based on a novel, etc and of course Mothra gets the top spot! She's definitely more than, "a bug".
I'm so glad that I can help point everyone in the right direction for this kind of stuff. P.S. Godzilla is standing next to the Eiffel tower in Paris in this image.
THIS IS GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!
reggzamortis86- Agreed. I wanna see Varan in a new movie.
Even Jet Jaguer is up there! Unbelievable! I would trade him over Megalon any day! I knew Mothra would hold top 3 monsters, but some of these are just strange. I get why Varan is up there, his movie is great and all but he was barely in any Godzilla film. He made a quick appearance in Destroy All Monsters for literally 3 seconds and still got up in the top 20. Gorosaurus has a longer stretch in the movie and didn't even make it up there. Hell he even was beaten by King Kong in that dreadful King Kong Escapes movie and still had more screen time than Varan.
When is Toho going to get the hint that Varan needs a reboot in the Godzilla series!
And here I thought Godzilla's son didn't get that much respect. Glad I'm wrong. I agree with both lists.
I too am surprised to see Minilla even on this list lol Also surprised to see Mothra at the top spot. Would have expected Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla to hold that spot. Thanks for posting this!
Sweet, thanks for both of your inputs. Im glad this topic gets brought up once in a awhile. This topic will never die!
Im very surprised about Minilla as top 5! Then there is Godzillasauraus up there too? I guess there is a culture divide in the young sons of Godzilla. NOT at all surprised about the movies that made top 5. I agree pretty much about the whole thing.
Did I hear the Millennium roar at the end of that one clip with Godzilla fighting with the Earth Returnists?
Hedorah at 10 makes me happy.
Mothra gets the top spot.. interesting.
I would have gone with Biollante as the number one monster.. because it is basically a very cool and original concept.
And out of the top 5 movies.. Mothra is featured in 3 of them.. also interesting.
But a bug beats out 19 other monsters (adversaries) for the number 1 spot in Japan.
There is no doubt in my mind that this is going to be great. I can't wait for it.
That was freaking AWESOME.. I want to see this so bad now.
I am hungry for more.
Longtime G-Fan from way back here...having seen both versions, the story positions Kong as the "good" monster while Godzilla is in "villain" mode here. Kong is the winner, because, simply, he's the first one to get back up while G is under the water still, either unconscious or having fled. And I'm a guy who nets on G against most opponents. But remember G was beaten by Mothra. Every Kaiju can have an off-day.
Good chapter, SFK.
New chapter. Godzilla shows up.
Literal quality at its core.
"GODZILLA" won cause you see "Kong" leaving his "Tokyo"!
riggzamortis86 Indeed Netflix. Enjoy. I am unfamiliar with Gantz in general but was immediately intrigued with its general strangeness and I saw some obvious influences/inspiration from Star Wars, Tron, Matrix, Godzilla and the early Silent Hill games. Without knowing anything about it, it was a fun pop corn flick and worth the time.
^I'm beginning to think it will be a little later than some are crossing their fingers for.
so does anyone know exactly when Netflix will release the movie? early 2018 or mid 2018?
you say its on Netflix? ill hafta check it out!
dk,
The movie is getting released in Japanese theaters next week. It will not hit Netflix worldwide until 2018.
Everything is canon in the Godzilla series, it just depends on what timeline it exists in. Including the 1998 disaster, the 2014 film and the upcoming Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, there are now 12 different timelines in the Godzilla film series. Some timelines only include one film, others up to 15. Planet of the Monsters will be the beginning of the 12th continuity. So yes, it's canon to its own timeline, but does not connect to the other 11 continuities.
Thanks for sharing GojiFan99. I was not tracking this at all. I saw a couple trailers and it looks like a Netflix release this month? Nice!
An origins story could be very interesting- I hope there will be English dubbing. How Godzilla came to be in part from a plant and the metal like muscle fibers G. H. (Gman) listed make sense to me and give a better explanation to his electromagnetic properties as well as explaining his sheer weight and why he can take so much punishment from our pea shooters. A couple things though:
Will this be canon? I am unsure of the canonical rules for Godzilla. I am unsure how the nuclear component would fit in (I don't understand Japanese from the trailers).
It is also fascinating to think about that there could be a similar biomechanical thing going on like how the Alien came to be from that franchise. This development on how those two things join up has been discussed/debated on the Alien Covenant forum since I can remember. It would be great to see if/how this movie handles that if there is any of that going on..
It's most likely only going to play during the end credits, like "GODZILLA: Love Theme" from The Return of Godzilla and "Echoes of Love" from Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla, and just be prominently used during marketing. It's not part of the film's actual score, and isn't even included on the soundtrack album.
Not sure what to think about the song. It is very haunting but I'm just not thinking "oooo.... Godzilla action". I'm sure it'll fit in somewhere. This is a new direction for Godzilla so I'll be open to it.
Looks really cool. The servum looks great!
Biollante didnt evolve into Godzilla, she was a mutation from Godzilla cells. Not even close to this story.
Well I would rather that Godzilla be around 2,000 years old.
So, it is pretty much Biollante's story for this Godzilla: a plant evolves into a Godzilla-like organism. So all they did was take Biollante's origin story, change it up a bit, and gave it to Godzilla. Effective, but lazy.
^^^^^^also Audrey 2 is an alien in the musical version of Little Shop Of Horrors. That's all based off of an old Roger Corman movie made shot in literally 3 days on a vacant lot. You cant compare Audrey 2 to anything that of Toho films. As much as I love his films, I can't compare Roger Corman to TOHO. And no one should. Roger Corman gave very little thought to "Audrey" in the original and was re-written for theater by very clever and talented play writers that knew how to make a musical out of a old sci-fi film. they are not scientists, they are artists. Art doesn't need to be based on fact.
so don't be bringing Roger Corman logic to a knife fight.

^I'm sure it will be. MonsterArts is good when it comes to scaling their monsters. What I hope for (and doubt will happen) is for an Atomic Breath accessory.
