Need more playsets! Im never too old to do that with Godzilla!
Sorry if I have been too busy and if anyone still cared if I paired any monster movies up with but I try and keep it coming in my busy schedule.
Ghidorah, The 3 Headed Monster and Dogora! Both had the alien theme and I got a sci-fi high from it all!
Invasion of Astro Monster with Frankenstein Conquers The World! Other than giant monster battles the real reason to pin these two together is quite obvious. Nick Adams. He got a lot of crap from Hollywood and Toho gave him some of his best and IMO, the most iconic roles of his career! Although "Die! Monster Die!"(1965) is another one that is great. Give that one a look see if your a Nick Adams fan.
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep and Space Amoeba! This was something I had to put together. Both featuring gigantic crustaceans just seemed to to fit the bill for me.
Son Of Godzilla along with Tarantula! Ok trying to broad my horizons away from just Toho films. Tarantula is by far the best giant spider movie from any era. Try and tell me its not. So to see Kumonga and Tarantula together in one night would surly give anyone the creeps!
@Spi3000, I find those 2 movies at FYE all the time pretty cheap. Like 10 to 20$ Maybe check stores like that? Im glad I bought those movies back then, I see all these movies I have in my collection and I bought them soo cheap back then.
But Im willing to go super crazy for these releases on Blu-Ray. I need them all.
To me(in my own personal opinion) even though GvK is based on a completely different Godzilla series seperate from the Showa era, GVK(2020) is a rematch. I know it really isn't. But this is what fans have been hungry for decades. To see these monsters together again on a big screen and fighting! We all wanted to see this rematch. What ever happens in the end of GVK, I know it wont change what happened in 1962, but it still would feel better to see it played out again.
I'll say this much for it: I like the first third. I think everything that happens before we even see the monster or the setting shifts to New York is quite interesting. It has a suspenseful build-up toward something horrific. The problem is "something horrific" or terrifying never gets delivered. Godzilla isn't depicted as a slow, lumbering god that doesn't need speed to escape fire fights. He's depicted as a scared animal. If anything Godzilla had more to fear in this movie.
But that's only the part that makes it a poor Godzilla movie. What torpedoes this movie is how cliche it is in terms of 1990s blockbusters. Literally every bad trope you can find in Independence Day, The Rock, Under Siege, Face/Off, etc is thrown in a blender and used to show how utterly poor most of the 1990s action film making was. It's an insult to Godzilla, made by filmmakers who had no love for the source material and couldn't evolve past the absolute worst material from grunge-era blockbusters.
^Which would be true had there been a rematch--There wasn't.
I watched it a couple weeks ago. I still think it is a good popcorn flick but should have been called something else. Gman confirmed it was canon in a different thread although he hates it- fair enough. My biggest issue was the cheesy American vibe drama it had and that it seemed like it was trying to jump on the Jurassic Park wagon at the time. I give it some props for being a more agile creature instead of a slow lumbering one- it was fun to watch. A big downer was it dying from aircraft missiles. The OG swatted those away like pesky flies or just was unhurt by them.
I suppose another way to look at it is that G lost that battle but not necessarily the war so to speak. Down but not out.
Man! I can't wait for Godzilla to blast atomic breath out of his butt!
Spi3000,
The reason Son of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla '74 are so expensive on Amazon and eBay is because they've been out-of-print for quite a few years. Sony had the rights to those two films, but dropped them many years back. Thus, the two films ended up having no official distributor in the US and Sony's discs skyrocketed in price due to them being out-of-print and rare.
Also Gojira (Godzilla, King of the Monsters) Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Ghidorah: The Three Headed Monster, Invasion of the Astro Monster, Godzilla's Revenge, and Terror of MechaGodzilla have never been released on DVD by Criterion. You're referring to Classic Media, which was the former license holder of those movies. Classic Media released the aforementioned titles on DVD a decade ago. (Including War of the Gargantuas and Rodan.) After Classic Media was absorbed by Dreamworks Classics, which is a subsidiary of Dreamworks Animation, it seems the Classic Media Godzilla discs started going out-of-print this past summer. When Criterion ends up releasing these same movies on DVD & Blu-ray you can bet they'll be even better discs.
I don't think I can wait that long :(
Even though a Blu-Ray release still eludes, the fact that they do aim to try to get a release is a good thing, and one I hope does happen relatively soon. Especially for two movies that are on this list, "Son of Godzilla," and "Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla." For whatever reason, these two movies are extremely hard to get in the US, especially if you're looking for the dub as DVD for both movies easily rack up in the $100+ price range on sites like Amazon and eBay. As much of a G-Fan I may be, even I would never spend that much for a movie. And Criterion has been so far been good with the already released films on DVD with Gojira (Godzilla, King of the Monsters) Godzilla Raids Again, Mothra vs. Godzilla, Invasion of the Astro Monster, Godzilla vs. Monster Zero, Godzilla's Revenge, and Terror of MechaGodzilla. Each movie is uncut from both the Original and Dub. With that said, I do hope these movies do get a Blu-Ray release soon so these movies can reach the fans from the West who have struggled to try and get these movies in the past.
ULTRAZERO80 - Godzilla took the rest for later! ;)
What I want to know is what happened to the rest of the lobster?
So when is grootzilla coming out on Netflix?
You know, in the previous weeks leading up to the movies release, I really didn't feel the hype in the community like there was with Shin Godzilla. It feels good seeing these new clips and having that feeling that the community is buzzing over Monster Planet!
Well I'm going to have to repurchase all of these. I'm not too heartbroken over it though considering the circumstances!
I just think its a bad "Godzilla" movie. I enjoyed it when I was a kid, I can enjoy it for what it is now. But the character just isn't Godzilla and should not be a Godzilla film. Ill give you a hypothetical question to give the reason why G-fans hate this movie.
Lets just take someone like Batman and do what the Zilla 1998 movie did to Godzilla and apply to a similar plot and character developmental change to a Batman movie. Lets have Batman's background changed, Batman is still bruce wayne but not rich at all(like how Zilla is named Godzilla but just a really bug iguana). In fact he is close to the poor house, his parents still die but maybe from a heroine overdose and his grandparents take care of him instead. He wants to fight crime, and works part time as a criminal to get the funds needed to buy guns and knives and a car and a batman suit to kill all the people committing the crimes, then Batman gets caught by police and sentenced to death by the system. Now call it Batman. Is it still a batman movie just because its called Batman? Its a terrible thing what they did to Godzilla in 1998 by changing everything that made Gojira a powerful and unstoppable monster and making him look like a weak overgrown lizard that eats lots of fish and I feel like if they did that to any other character in a franchise those fans would feel the exact same way.
I have a lot these on DVD but not Bluray. So I guess selling my soul to the devil in order to get them is a good time as any to have this.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSS!
This is incredible news! That only leaves 4 Showa films out of Criterian's catalogue. Imagine if the sub-licensed the three Kraken titles (Sea Monster, Hedorah, and Gigan), and somehow got Universal to work with them to sub-license King Kong vs Godzilla? The ENTIRE Showa era could be under the Criterian banner! But 14 different titles is already more than I ever could have dreamed of. Bless the Criterian Collection. :)
I doubt Legendary would go that far with their incarnation. Though an Atomic Pulse would be nice. These new attacks are unique, but not that out of the ordinary when you think about it. Godzilla has the ability to channel his atomic energy through out his body to enhance his attacks. For example, when he fought SpaceGodzilla, Godzilla channeled his atomic energy into his hands and jaws to make those attacks stronger. Throughout the Heisei series, Godzilla's Atomic Pulse has been used against multiple opponents. In Godzilla 2000, he destroyed Orga with a huge Nuclear Pulse that caused his whole body to glow. Before any of that, in the Showa era, whenever he was struck by lightning, Godzilla got stronger. Shin Godzilla's and Anime Godzilla's tail attacks basically being performed by this method; Godzilla is sending energy to a part of his body to create/enhance his attacks. The fact that Atomic Rays are being generated shows Godzilla is not only exerting a great deal of power but also a great deal of control. While this hasn't been seen before to this degree, it is definitely not out of the ordinary. In short, Godzilla's a badass with excellent energy control.
^HOLY SHIT I love that game! I always let Tokyo burn at level 5 so that I can become Super Godzilla twice while fighting Mecha-King Ghidorah and Bagan. I don't mind getting my ass whooped by bagan at first while the Super X2 is on its way any minute. As long as I have a couple of credits to last me. haha
but a new tail attack? is this going to be the norm now? Godzilla in 2019 wont be having that I assume so he might seem a little out of touch with his Japanese counterpart.
Excellent. I need a new Destroy All Monsters anyways. My old one is basically a VHS in DVD format.
A new tail attack? Godzilla's had a lot of those lately. Makes me think a little bit of Super Godzilla's tail attack from the video game.
Sweet. This is great news.
Kamacarus, Rodan, Anguirus, Orga(which is weird, isn't he a alien copied from Godzilla cells? but he appears before Godzilla?),Dogra, what is that thing in Australia? Looks like Dagera from Mothra 2? cant really see it.
^That's right. Good catch
Toho Animation just uploaded 2 new videos. Lets watch.
That's what I felt as well, I thought he was looking much bigger throughout the trailer.
He was also in Final Wars.
^maybe your more familiar with "Minya" instead of Minilla? Godzilla's first "son" from the Showa era. He was in 3 movies back to back. Son Of Godzilla (1967), Destroy All Monsters (1968), and All Monsters Attack aka Godzilla's Revenge(1969).
Also Minilla is the correct English spelling of what many Western fans know as "Minya"--Godzilla's son.
That part appears automatically with every news post. Chris will have to fix that.
btw you misspelled the fan as "fas"
Minilla? who's Minilla? sounds like something came out of fan fiction.
I've definitely been getting more into the Showa series a bit more lately.
