I for one have been and always will be a strong supporter of cgi.(When done properly of course) Let's face it and put nostlgia aside. CGI allows the filmmaker to fully realize a character that does not exist and render them 100% articulate without the inherent restrictions of a suit or model set. But cgi takes a great deal of time and money and painstaking attention to detail. All it takes to pull you out of a scene is a minor detail that was missed or not polished enough or in some cases too clean. I'm beyond optimistic that this new Godzilla will give us what the previous versions as great as they were never could. That's a fully expressive face, drool,(not foam) furrowed brow, eye dialation, the whole 9. What I'm most impressed with so far is for once in a very long while we have a Godzilla movie that really does seem to have a real story driving it. Full of mystery, wonder, intrigue, and suspense I have been ready for this for a very, very, long time. Thanks WB/Legendary I needed this. The old movies have their charm and always will but I'm ready for something new it's long overdue.
Godzilla final wars tells how it woke Godzilla because humans have done horable things to this planet that makes him mad.
Guys i think it is a bootleg
@Danzilla93
That'd be amazing if he played an elderly Ogata! :D Like you said, it's a blast to speculate on what we know, and what we don't know!
Look closely guys, the skeleton goes on, and on until we are unable to see it. It doesn't seem to be a Godzilla skeleton. :O
I'm not bashing those who think it's Godzilla's, but just look at how long and narrow the structure is.
Not goina lie, I've watched the trailer at least a dozen times and I thought the CGI looked pretty damn good! I slow down and carefully look at the part with the destroyers going up as Godzilla swam under them, but the fact is for how big he is they would end up moving around like bathtub toys. That being said there was a lot of detail on them so I thought that scene was pretty darn good. The destruction was also really really impressive to me. especially Vegas and the part with the tail. Godzilla himself looked real and scary. There is still several more months of touch ups, though, and considering this trailer got delayed, that tells me there is still a lot of work to go. I'm not worried, I think it will at least be on par with Pacific Rim, if not better (we won't have constant rain obscuring our views of the kaiju :) )
Ummm you've forgotten the airport scene from the other trailers.
Just sayin.
I doubt the military is being used to lead Godzilla to anything, I think hes on his way to fight muto himself, the military is probably trying to capture some kind of weapon or device in the city. But that is just my opinion.
Wow, I didn't figured out why those soldiers would do that. It's pretty logic, just like in Jurassic Park and the T-rex
Yeah, because a group of angry nerds on the internet shouting their opinion-is-fact logic is more reliable than an interview with the visual effects guys who are working on the film--
I believe it.
#eyeroll.
Godzillafan1995-- I doubt that Darabont would change a key plot point.
Not only does the whole plot revolve around finding a Godzilla body. Not only does it provide Godzilla with a name, it explains the connection between Godzilla and the muto and explains why muto is a threat, why Godzilla and Muto fight.
To have the skeleteon be another giant creature would just be confusing. I'm going to say at this point, I'm 80% sure the script was real and I'm 90% sure this skeleton is of a Godzilla. To just have a third, odd creature in the film would make almost no sense and give no idea of how dangerous the muto are.
The script basically explains that Muto were mortal enemies of Godzilla's species and capable of taking a Godzilla down... I know a few things about story telling and if Muto is portrayed as being capable of killing Godzilla, it really hurts the suspense factor in the film.
But-- whatevs. When the film comes out, one of us is going to be jamming out to Mr. Bumpy's I was right and you were wrong song. Until then, lets just agree to disagree.
lol yeah, inaccurate info still irritates me to no end
@GUATEGOJIRA
I live in Texas and I got this as a kid. I don't really remeber anything about it except that I had gotten it as a gift from someone.
if you watch this in full HD (Toho Kingdom has the best Full HD video) on this scene 1. you can see more corpses 2. you can see that the spine and ribcage stay the same pattern all the way untill you can't see no more, also (not being ruse or harsh) AKAGI, are you really using a script whcih may not 60% legit, even if that script got some things right according from the trailer, that could still be an older script before it was finshed (when i mean finsished i mean that it was polished by Frank Darabot (who finalized the script)). it may not be a snake but it can't be a godzilla, it could be any other reptile, but it doesn't even match the skeloten structure of the original godzilla's skeleton.
To be honest, the CGI was pretty unimpressive to me, for probably a few different reasons: I had high expectations due to the fact that the director did all of the CGI for Monsters himself, the teaser trailer used smoke, darkness, and a lot of relatively still or slow CG shots cleverly to make it look better than it probably really was, and I just recently saw Aliens for the first time, which kind of set pretty high standards in my mind for special effects. But, even if it weren't for that, the CGI in the trailer looked even more cartoony than CGI usually does to me, and it didn't blend in well with the live action footage in many scenes.
Daikaiju_Danielle:
I completely agree. Akira filmed his scene(s) in one day in what appeared to be an airport terminal, so it is most likely that his role will be a brief cameo. I wish he were in the film more, but at least he is in the film! Thats just so amazing and special!
Wouldn't it be crazy if he were playing an old Ogata?! :O (unlikely, but still fun to speculate!)
Really good eye man, I think the plot is deep with this film, and I like that theory.
Lol, the movie is going to come out....and 90% of Godzilla's screentime, Godzilla is going to be shorter than many of the buildings in the skyline.
But there's gonna be one or two shots where Godzilla's size is somehow exagerrated or not to scale......
And then there are STILL gonna be people saying crap like "SEE Godzilla was 700-1000 feet tall!!! Even in the movie!!!"
It's inevitable. You won't be able to convince them to see reason. You might want to save your breath.
^Ah yes I remember that article, almost forgot about that one, I wonder if it was that tropical scene that used it
Sigh... You're assuming you know all the biology of this new Godzilla. The script states that the godzilla found dead in the glacier is different than the Godzilla that appears in the film. But whatever, you're not going to accept it no matter what I say-- but that'll just make things better when I'm singing the I was right song come May.
You don't see the entire skeleton, just the chest cavity, because it is THAT huge. No one is grasphing just how big this skeleton is, look at the ribs in comparison to the people, just let that sink in.
Also, if you wanna bring skeletons into this, I'll just throw something out here real quick and what the skeleton reminds me of...

A komodo dragon, or a lizard-- snakes and lizards are closely related-- infact there are some species of lizards that have no legs and a rib cage that goes all he way down to protect their organs. WE DO KNOW for a fact that the new Godzilla's movements and animation are based on BEARS and Komodo dragons.
ALSO!

Here is a lizard Skeleton... look at that long... almost snake like ribcage... Considering this new Godzilla doesn't have a humanoid diaphragm like the Japanese Godzilla and more of a solid barrel chest/stomach... it'd make sense that it'd have a long ribcage.
BEST OF ALL, if it truly IS over 100 meters, then to stand in it, in a dark cave or glacier, it'd be pretty hard to see all the way to one end or the other.
Also you're assuming the new Godzilla is a dinosaur, which we have absolutely no confirmation on.
I also highlighted the three-four bodies I found in the picture. http://i59.tinypic.com/2rp2mth.jpg I sharpened the picture up a bit, not much, just enough to makeout the bodies. The bodies look to be normal people in normal clothes-- for whatever that is worth.
Again we have different angles and illustrations then VS that CG, i mean compare 2 illustrations something like:
vs.
in the end thought the cg looks the best imo, its just really lighting that is one of the big factors, but we cant deny they did change the look of him throughout their production
did you know that the 1954 scenes were filmed using 60's film equipment
The tropical scene looked weird, probably due to him rising really fast having a less realistic look, and probably because the colors, we aren't used to that natural coloring. other small gripes here and there about the cg.
Godzilla says 4/5 stars
BIGBADBEN, no offense but if godzilla was 820 feet tall that would make him roughly 1600 feet long head to tail. At that size the spikes on his back would be larger than the boats he is swimming under, and being that close to the coast he would beach himself. Mothra's wingspan has nothing to do with this Godzilla. And just because he is a force of nature does not mean he should be as tall as the tallest building in San Francisco. Edwards himself said this godzilla is only a 'hair' larger than the largest which is 100m in the movies, and 150m in marvel comics. 250m is not a 'hair' larger than either of those.
akagi, that does not look like a godzilla skeloten, the bones are too small for a gigantic creature more than 100 metres, also by detaling on the ribcage structure you can see that this creature was very slim, if it was a godzilla then the ribs would be much larger and have a diffrent structure
this is a skeleton of a snake

as you can see the ribs are continuos and slightly curved
heres a skeloten of a trex, the one of the larget theropd is extistence

as you can see it has large ribs, but they get small to big to small and there are small in quantity compared to the snake
to make things even easier to compare heres a google image of a godzilla skeleton

I don't wanna play the devils advocate but I wasn't very impressed with the CG, particularly him swimming under the bridge... that looked pretty hoakey to me.
Lots of the destruction scenes looked pretty silly too...
but then again, its Godzilla, I honestly don't care-- I'd say the CGI in the movie is onpar with most Legendary pictures CG, its acceptable, not fantastic.
This is also trailer CG and probably not final product CG.
Interesting. where are you from Ixmani?
This is a pirate figure of Godzilla, probably made in China or Mexico.
Here in Guatemala, that is the ONLY Godzilla figure that you will found at this day. Incredibly, this figure measure about 50 cm (20 inches) tall. The only other figures that were available in the 90's were those of Trendmasters.
Honestly, this is all subjective. I don't see this Godzilla as being any easier to accept as being real than the in-suit-Godzillas. Its all fantastical and silly really.
I could criticize the hell out of the visual effects in the trailer, as I wasn't that impressed, but honestly, CGI in general doesn't do a lot for me.
I just like it because its a different take on Godzilla-- not neccesarily a better one. Because what is good and what isn't is subjective to the nature of the individual veiwing the material.
I thought the scene where he swims under the aircraft carrier was pretty good, I didn't realize that I was seeing his body in that shot until my second viewing. However the ships that rise up in the wake didn't look as convincing...reminded me of the old Toho pool! They seem to irse and bounce around a little too rapidly for ships that big and heavy. I'll have to look at it again.
Dont get me wrong as a kid i loved all of the G movies and watched them non stop. The VFX from those movies were good for the time they were released and its not their fault at all. As far as being grounded, realistic though this movie has the best chance of doing that. With the cast they have chosen and a having such a great director I have no doubt this will be one of the best monster movies ever made. To me G14 even makes Pacific Rim look cartoonish.
Looks like only two bodies, if any are there, the rest of it looks like vertebrae to me.
Also this 'snake like skeleton' is more than likely a dead Godzilla-- and not one that was killed by the oxygen destroyer like everyone is assuming. The up pointing bits between the rib-cage and the verterbae are ice, they are inside a glacier or something like it.
Glacier + Dead Godzilla Skeleton + Scene from first trailer where Serizawa finds 'egg like object' all goes witht he original leaked script. Dare I mention how the bombing of Godzilla and the death of Bryan Cranston's wife in the movie all are part of said script?
I don't wanna sound like a broken record, but I already know what this skeleton is.
Oh I didnt meen it like that Gman, I love suitmation and I realise that that's what they had at the time, but the thing im talking about isnt that cgi is better outright its that to me its better in some ways, for instance im somone who really like's natural and flowing movement and when things look organic as stated above, and that's why I really enjoy cgi because it makes it easyer for me to get immersed and suspend my disbalief which is why movies like jurassic park,Alien, and pacific rim appeal to me so much because they found that perfect balance between practical effects and cgi(granted Alien less so on the cgi but danm did that suit look good, and the jeager head sets looked really good), and like those movies good real looking cgi is somthing iv been craveing from a Godzilla movie for years, but I still respect and enjoy suitmation for its own merits, but not only do I enjoy the visual immersion, I enjoy story immersion as well, and aside from the 54 movie not alot of the other movies can draw me inlike the original did, so thats another reason im looking forword to the movie cause this Godzilla, in my opinion only has to beat G 54's story and for me it will win the title of best monster movie of all time.

I don't see how its a different design. you guys do realize that the 'brazil' Godzilla head is still used in many of the products they were demoing at Toyfair right? Its also all over party favors and stuff-- that is the official head. They haven't changed squat, it just looks different from a different angle.
gman is right as well, really it's not the old movies faults (excpet post-91 hesie series) for the special effects, it's what they could do at the time, for giant monsters the fimling options were, either stop motion (what most pre-cgi american giant monster movies had) and suitmation (japans giant monster filming standard up to this point, although even suitmation is now starting to be replaced by japans better experience with cgi) reall only some movies are bad for their time like godzilla vs gigan with the degradging suit and Godzilla vs Mothra(1992) and godzilla vs spacegodzilla with the special and sound effects effects, while other movies like Mothra vs Godzilla & Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster (1964) are really good even for today's standard (a little dated but it was the arly 60's). really cgi is now the new addition of bringing Giant monsters to life, however who is to say that cgi wouldn't have existed if not due to Willis o Brian's Stopmotion and Eji Tsuburaya's Suitmation, at least in the case for giant monster movies.
Maybe the military somehow lures the creatures to a common point to battle. It seems that in the 2 trailers, the military are using red flares to get Godzilla's attention, so maybe that is part of it.
It seems to me they will try something similar to the oxygen destroyer, but if the leaked script is as true as it has been so far, then it still won't kill Godzilla.
Where in the world did you find that? Looks like the Imperial Godzilla and Trendmasters Godzilla had a baby. I have no idea where that came from or who made it.
I think some people are jumping the gun again. Yes the new Godzilla looks more organic, but that's because it's made with modern day, western style special effects. And yes the movie does look fantastic so far, but "best monster movie of all time?" One could hope, but I doubt that.
Lets not forget, the old movies were never trying to be very realistic by the 1960s. The movements and special effects style was different on purpose. It was done to widen the 1960s Japanese audience and expand the imagination. Just because some don't understand this doesn't make it immediately superior. Even Gareth Edwards would back down from some of these comments as he highly respects the Eiji Tsuburaya era of films.
Dark, gritty and realistic does not automatically mean better. It's a shame the hype is making some fans believe that.
I agree VALKORIN 100%. As i get older it makes the older ones harder to watch. Once Cloverfield came out it really revived my interest in monster movies because of how realistic and grounded it felt. Edwards' movie Monster and Pacific Rim just added to that and here we are now. IM DYING for G14 to come out, going to be the best monster movie of all time.
yeah that brazil leak didn't look like it was the final desgin, where as the one on the empre magazine does. and that godzilla look angry and ferocious, also i heard that godzilla's fighting techique is similar to a bear AND a kmodo dragon
