GreenManGodzilla 2014 ForumIs this the final Godzilla design!?Jul 23, 2013
And Gareth Edwards and crew aren't solely responsible for the final Godzilla design.
They wanted a design approved by Toho.
And Toho approved of whatever their final design was.
Toho said it was true to Godzillas roots.

To me, this looks completely different than the leaked Godzilla Encounter footage.
It's likely just a concept design that wasn't approved.

First of all, I do know how film marketing works, quit assuming things. Second of all, you want to create positive buzz and excitement, not the negative buzz and excitement that Legendary has. They should have stated the big surprise they had planned was for Comic-Con attendees only. Like the Amazing Spider-Man 2 makers did. They openly stated that you had to be in Hall "whatever" at Comic-Con to see the Electro reveal (oh, and even having said that they were nice enough to post a mini Electro teaser online for fans not at Comic-Con). Legendary led us on and gave us NOTHING. They are dooming Godzilla to bomb, just like they did with Pacific Rim. As for the other films Legendary was trying to promote at Comic-Con, EPIC FAIL! Legendary has doomed them as well. Is anyone talking about those films on the Legendary Films Facebook page? NO! Every other post is from people furious about Godzilla. You wait too long to show the public anything, the public will no longer care. We live in a era where teasers sometimes come out two or three years before the movie for crying out loud!

The head looks a lot like the one in the leaked Godzilla Experience footage (search Youtube if you have not seen it). That's a real weird pose though.

No, it's safe to say that is not the final design and i'm glad because it doesn't look great. This in no way resembles the one from the leaked encounter footage which is (many believe) to be Godzilla's final design.

i think it may have been ONE of the best but not THE best, i dont really care if the battles were rushed and i realized that they made this movie in under a YEAR because in the middle of filming Tokyo S.O.S they started filming GFW. it was a great godzilla movie and action flick i think it was a bit of a good finale

I really believe they're taking the video down because it's not the final design. We don't know how things are going with his design, but they could still be working it out. Likely, they had the CGI model from the SDCC 2012 teaser available and used that to put this together. It makes for a fun attraction and still lets guests get a feel for where the new movie is going, but they don't want it all over the net because it's not how he'll look in the movie.
That said, I do think there are some things, regardless of design changes or not, to take away from this which are positive for the new movie. The motion of his walk is very much like any guy-in-suit Toho Godzilla, he moves like he's heavy and you feel it in all his movement, which is great, and he could always be faster in combat. His roar also has a classic Godzilla feel. Even if the design is very unique and not your typical Toho Godzilla, they're respecting the character and how to depict him beyond the details of his design. I'm really excited for this movie. One thing I like about the poster and his design is the tail details, his tail almost looked like vertebrae the way the spikes come out of it and the segments are done, which goes along with the idea that his spikes are his bones mutated. I really think the final look is going to be very impressive and I'm hopeful that the film is going to be something really special.
ReplyMonsterEvolutionistGodzilla ForumCoolest Godzilla Monster Besides GodzillaJul 23, 2013
I really don't have a favorite thats not Godzilla, I choose which monsters I like more than others. I find the more powerful and more ferocious looking ones more awsome. For example I perfer Battra to Mothra. But my standards on whats too much, on my top favorites is Gigan 2004 but the chainsaw hands were overdoing it a bit. The monsters that are on my top favorites are the only few monsters able to kick Godzilla's ass. Gigan 2004, Gigan,Destroyah, Mechagodzilla, Kiryu, Keizer Ghidorah, and Spacegodzilla. P.S. I like those monsters put in list together equaly.
ReplyMonsterEvolutionistGodzilla ForumWhich monsters do you want to see go head to head?Jul 23, 2013
To Godzilla96: I have waited years for someone to say that, all I have to say is it would probably end with a large blood splatter on the ground and under Godzilla's foot. To DESTROYALLMONSTERS: All I have to say is "WOW", that would possibly one of the most destructive battles in monster history, Keizer Ghidorah being one of the most powerful of the Ghidorah's, and Destroyah the only one of Godzilla's evil enemies that wasn't defeated by Godzilla. To Everyone else: Just to let u ppl know, I DON'T know very many monsters outside of the Godzilla series and the Mothra series, so if I leave anybody out Its only because one, more or all of the monsters Ijust don't know what the Hell they are.

The best Godzilla movies for me would be either the original Japanese version or GMK. The original has a unique eerie atmosphere that none of the other G films have been able to match. I think that filming it in black idea was a great idea, because it really enhances the eerie effect of the movie.
ReplyGodzillaAttacksGodzilla 2014 ForumSoundtrack Speculation (Composer, Songs, Godzilla Theme)Jul 23, 2013
I just hope they don't try to introduce pop or other mainstream popular music into the movie (I believe they tried to do this will the Zilla movie (Thankfully, there was also a composer score as well.). They definitely should keep using instrumental music (It helps to convey the mood of the movies). If I had a choice, I would choose Michiru Oshima-san, who composed the scores for Godzilla vs Megaguirus, Godzilla x Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla x Mothra x Mechagodzilla: Tokyo SOS. I really like the theme she composed for Godzilla. Especially, in Godzilla x Mechagodzilla, where she had access to the vast Moscow International Symphonic Orchestra (Listen to that soundtrack, versus the other ones she did and you will notice a different in the power within the soundtracks). Akira Ifukube, of course, is the best Godzilla composer but she would definitely be my second favorite.

I did managed to download a copy before it was taken down, when things calm down again, might post it up for those who didn't get to see it. Ultimately, this doesn't hurt the marketing campaign, since it's not a final product entirely, but still it generated a ton of hype and promise for this movie. If anything, this leak was majorly beneficial and probably was a "controlled leak". WB took their time removing the videos which makes me think it was planned. ;) No harm in that though either. Godzilla looks beyond badass, even in this early CGI preview!

Whatever your reasons were, the fact is this stuff is con-exclusive. That's just the way the world works. I didn't get to go to the con either. Boo-hoo. But I'd be delusional to believe that the footage is going to get released, because I have self-entitlement issues that get smoke-screened by assuming that I know how to market a movie. And lets face it, unless your job is to head the marketing team of films, no one here knows how to do it.
I have no doubt that official trailers and footage will be released sometime this fall, most likely this November or December with "Thor" or some other fall actioner. So simply be patient.
Comic Con NEVER said they would release the footage to the public. Ever. Godzilla's presence at Comic Con was to generate buzz and create excitement. Guess what? It worked. Everyone is complaining we don't have a trailer and chomping at the bit to see footage. Meanwhile, the press hypes up the movie's presence for WB/Legendary and all they have to do is sit on their hands while the movie is in post-production and the marketing team gears up their plan for the year's fourth quarter.
Man up and deal with it.

Legendary said there was something big coming! Failed to mention only people at Comic-Con would see it. It's been a year since the teaser was shown, and the unwashed masses (like myself) have yet to see it! What was the point of even showing the trailer at Comic-Con? If it was for press, FAIL! The press is talking about the Batman/Superman movie. The only talk about Godzilla is about how fans are angry about Legendary basically trolling fans. Go to the Legendary Facebook page. Legendary is posting cos-play videos, and nearly every comment on every post is people angry about not seeing a trailer. Legendary is dooming both Godzilla AND EVERY OTHER FILM THEY ARE WORKING ON!

I get a little tired of anyone who was at SDCC telling us to quit complaining ,...telling us "we should have saved our pennies"? i'm willing to bet I have a better job then most of the goofs who where there but for me,..it's not about saving pennies...it's about having families and responsibilities to others and not just to myself,...most true Godzilla fans are probably in their 40's and 50's....not the age group i'm sure was their........to hold people at fault simply because they have bigger and better things to do with their money,...like taking care of ones family,....should be no reason to keep everyone else in the dark.....again....just sayin'

Comic Con goers do deserve to get something unique, no doubt, and seeing the trailer first and well before anyone else is fair enough. I do think whining that it hasn't been released to the general public yet is a bit much, particularly when the evidence on the Encounter website suggests them leading towards it with the progression of the timeline. That said, the Con attendees also get to be there for an intimate discussion with the cast which non-attendees will never get, we may see it on Youtube or the Blu Ray, but it's not the same. So never releasing the trailer to the public would be a mistake. I understand not releasing last year's trailer, since a number of things strongly suggest that was simply a test trailer shown to gaugue fan reaction to the tone the film would be taking and server as a showing that this will not be Godzilla '98, but it's not the final Godzilla design or film footage so they didn't feel a need to publish it. This year's trailer should be as it contains real footage that'll be part of the film. It would be a mistake by Legendary not to release it publicly at some point. Not only are there far more potential film goers in the mass public who weren't at SDCC, but I've even read that getting into the panel also meant attendance for other panels in the same hall, which means a number of the people who saw the Godzilla trailer and panel may not even care about Godzilla. There are plenty of hardcore fans, and surely some more fan than people at SDCC, who simply can't afford the time away or the expense of the trip to SDCC. Should Con goers get a special treat, yes, they got the Encounter, the panel, seeing the trailer first, but should non-attendees get screwed, no, it's not as though their absence is a reflection of interest. I'm sure many of us who didn't make it feel a sinking feeling in our stomachs that we missed out on all the festivities. That said, because so much of the Encounter is being shared on the site and apps and such made for non-attendees to join the fun too, I do believe Legendary will put it online, and it's just a matter of waiting. Thankfully, the timelines' halfway through now at 1984.
