G. H. (Gman)Godzilla 2014 ForumWho here besides me misses Akira Ifukube??
As much as I respect Ifukube and enjoy his themes, I think it's time to let them go and move on. We have 50 years of Ifukube's music in the series. It dominated the 1960s and nearly beat Godzilla's theme into the ground. Then that same theme (including Godzilla's march from the first film) was used in almost every Heisei movie and the first three Millennium flicks. The most annoying part is it would often play without variation or deviation from how it was arranged 50-60 years ago... No, let Alexandre Desplat do his own thing. I'm looking forward to a new theme for a new generation of Godzilla. I can't wait to hear what Desplat has come up with.

He's right, the comic book superhero genre is the boxoffice gold these days. But history likes to repeat itself and I see The Amazing Spider-Man 2 emulating what the last four have done: Bring in the cash, but with lower attendance. I think X-Men: Days of Future Past has potential to do a lot better than the last two, but even Fox has to understand it's a risk. The last two X-Men films didn't dominate the box office. Like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Fox was hesitant to go forward with a sequel to First Class. Furthermore, James McAvoy recently said that X-Men: Days of Future Past was perhaps the second most expensive movie Fox ever made. (First would be Avatar.) With that kind of money on the line, and the popularity of X-Men waning, it actually has as much to live up to, if not more, than Godzilla. Even if Godzilla did about as well as Star Trek into Darkness, that's still a domestic take of $120 million more than Pacific Rim and almost half a billion worldwide. I'd be celebrating if it did that.

\"Comic Book Movies are THE Genre nowadays\" Not really when you consider the last few X-men films didn\'t meat up to box office standards as well as the last Spiderman film, as someone pointed out earlier. I think you mean the Marvel Avengers phase 2 films (or anything involving Batman or Superman) are the genre nowadays and none of them are coming out during May.

Hmm not so much as the whole movie but events in them. The two biggest i always see are from Godzilla vs Gigan and Godzilla vs Biolantte Saying Gigan is one of Godzilla\'s most powerful foes. And they always point to the scene where Gigan cuts Godzilla in Godzilla vs Gigan. Lets look at that for minute. Does anyone else remember that Godzilla could barely walk in that movie due to some kind of machine that the aliens were using to lower his combat effectness? Same with Angiusis. And once that machine was blown up Godzilla toke out Gigan no sweat. Saying: Bionallte beat Godzilla into a coma. Yes he did go into hibernate after the fight but it was more due to the anti radiation bacteria then Bionallte. I am sure there are others but i can't think of them atm. Plus those are the two biggest.

@ INSTINCTIVEGIGAN " The dude can use his nuclear abilities for atomic breath and nuclear pulses but he can't get rid of excess radiation that's unheatlhy for him? Nah, don't buy it. I'm not saying he's unkillable but defeating him with the very thing that created him? That's like trying to kill Superman by throwing him into the sun," All star superman had that plot he toke in to much rad from the sun and stuff he didn't die but evolved or something. My guess is it would depend on the power of the nuke and the version of Godzilla and his location to the blast. But most likely he would get hurt to seriously hurt but he would heal and come back stronger.

Godzilla might be the Star Trek Into Darkness of 2014 in terms of box office, except its on a much worse situation. Whereas Star Trek Into Darkness was sandwiched between Iron Man 3 on one side and Fast & Furious 6 and Epic (also The Hangover 3) on the other, this film has 2 compete against and is sandwiched between 2 Superhero films. I'm sorry, but this is the truth: Comic Book Movies are THE Genre nowadays and the MAIN attractions, and its worse when you have the mega film that is X-Men: Days Of The Future Past coming the week after this film. This is why Warner should swap this film for Edge Of Tomorrow, leave this film to the start of June in June 6.

lets see how realistic did they do thor or spider man, let me see how many other comic book characters they have made realistic, STOP WITH THIS DAMN REALISM AS FAR AS GODZILLA GOES, he is a fantasy character a fiction, portray him as such and stop trying to make him a dinosaur, hell even as that he was in mutation already and his full potential or powers or mutation were not documented, the radiation did to him what gamma radiation did to David banner (hulk) but without the ability to revert back to a weaker state, GODZILLA is mans death and should be focused on and realized as just that. he is what he is. I AM THE DESTROYER, I AM THE DEATH OF MY CREATOR.

all some great ideas and Thank you for sharing, and yes to BCRockeTT94, that might not be out of the realm of possibility of the class system or the Reptile Muto. and to , True American Godzilla .the centipede like monster kinda is what I'm thinking about when they describe the released Muto spider drawing. I don't know why they would show a monster that won't be in the movie. I personally hope they bring back a old Classic Monster Godzilla has fought countless times, have them have a last epic duke off of the two and then the second monster comes in and try to take it's spot in the rumble. or the other monster might be a massive robot like Jet Jaguar.

BCrockett94, wow I am glad you really loved my thoughts! I appreciate the review. Your theory on a realistic 'Atomic Breath' is very intriguing. The way you describe your theory, the more it makes sense. Like you, I also hope our theories are in the movie, especially your Atomic Blast theory! I first noticed the pupil when I made the image bigger for my computer background. "Creepily realistic" is a great term for it, and for the feeling one would have if they saw it staring at them in real life. Again, thank you very much for the feed back and ideas!

I'm just excited to hear that the spiderish/Cloverfield monster like (as far as I've heard from people who've seen the 2nd Comic Con trailer) is named Muto. From the fan drawings of it, I'm not sure what to expect from this thing... and that makes me like it more. As for the other monster, seen in the leaked Comic Con trailer, it doesn't look like a centipede creature. From the body and feet/leg perspective given, I'm reminded of Randall Boggs from Monster Inc http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110426151053/pixar/images/8/86/Randall.png Now I'm not saying it would be a chameleon or anything, but I wouldn't doubt it being dangerous. After all, the 'skinny' Randall Boggs was able to take on Sully (a blue furred yeti basically).

I hope that the gills are a more cosmetic feature, because the article I recommended shows why he WOULDN'T need them,as well as why the atomic breath is so powerful and can be used frequently without tire. If anything,a Godzilla that doesn't need things like organic nourishment, air, and has a radioactively built structure that laughs in the face of the Square Cube law like what was highlighted in the article I mentioned would be MORE realistic.

I agree. I don't think that Toho is going to risk creating an inferior product of something they created. I think Godzilla will no longer feature suit acting, or they might, but that's until they can get better CGI... It's atrocious, as of 2012. I think they made the movie Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.. God, that CGI sucked. That being said, they'll probably stop making Godzilla movies until they improve on their CGI and animation, or maybe we'll get a few more suit movies, or like someone said, they might even lend Godzilla to a few international studios until they can compete with CGI Godzillas with their own CGI Godzilla.

I have a theory about Godzilla's radioactive breath in this film. I don't think it's going to be a ray, as is the case in most Godzilla films, but it's going to take on the form of something similar to the 54 film. I don't think it's gonna be smoke, but it's more than likely not going to be some sort of ray or beam. To show the atomic breath in action, I think they'll show the air around his jaws look like a heat wave, and right as he's about to "blast" out his breath, there's a quick flash of a very bright light, like an atomic bomb being dropped, emitting from his mouth for a brief period of time and then whatever he's around/attacking gets a major knock back effect as well as a very dangerous amount of radiation, enough to kill a man, but maybe not enough to kill the "Mutos" creature(s) with just a single blast. Maybe that's why Godzilla is shrouded in "debris/fallout" in the "teaser". And as Gareth stated, "it's not going to be as fantastic" or some shit like that. That being said, I think it's safe to assume it's only going to be used once or twice, and that's in the most inconvenient for everyone else, except Godzilla, moments, and as something like that would require a lot of energy, I feel it'd make sense if it was not only a last resort thing, but also something that made Godzilla tired. That's how I sort of thing they'll portray the breath "realistically", as far as realism can be achieved in a kaiju film. Maybe that's what you were trying to say, but without the extra bits I threw in, like the energy useage makes Godzilla tired. I like the idea of bringing the "bouncing cars" thing back into the films that the 98 film used. It adds that bit of realism that makes the film even more believable. However, even in the 98 film there were some scenes that forgot to use that effect. The gills are a must for Godzilla. I agree. To portray Godzilla realistically, he'd need gills. I like that detail, as it can also be exploited as a possible vulnerability, adding more realism. As much as I like to think of Godzilla as an indestructible force of nature, it's just not realistic. Gills would be a nice place to target, and the fact that it's blending into the scales, makes it less noticeable so it's not the first thing that any military thinks to aim for. As much as only night attacks seems like a good idea, it didn't work so well for Pacific Rim, and people complain about it still to this day. It was one of my favorite aspects of the 54 movie, because it made it seem "scarier". "Will I wake up tomorrow morning" sort of thing, ya know? But I don't think it'd be something they'd do, and if the 2012 trailer is anything to go by, then it shows Godzilla in broad daylight, debris falling from the sky, as he bellows out a roar. I agree with your reasoning of Godzilla's feet, but I don't remember any official material showing Godzilla's feet. Then again, we haven't seen much official anything when it comes to the 2014 movie. I'll be honest, I didn't notice the eyes until you mentioned them. It didn't even cross my mind to do that, I just assumed "how human", when now that I look at the eyes closely, "Now that's creepily realistic". I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'm really excited to see how much of our speculation actually makes its way into the movie, I'll be happy even if none of my speculation is proven true. Godzilla is Godziila, and I don't give a shit what anyone else says. lmao

I'm pretty sure it's "Mutos", multiple. The reason they used the word in singular form is because they were talking about a specific Muto, the eight legged variant. It's also hinted that there are TWO Mutos, as heavily implied by the chibi figures' description. That being said, I'm pretty sure "mutos" is a word for "mutants" that the military uses to keep too much panic from ensuing. The word "monster" is usually a word attached to something negative, while the word "mutos" is vague, and can mean anything really. Here's an example: "In our fight against the Mutos, many lives have been lost." "In our fight against the monsters, many lives have been lost." Notice that the word Mutos can mean one of several things, the word "monster" isn't exactly the first word that comes to mind when you read that sentence, well it really shouldn't. In the second sentence, the word "monster" can really only be interpreted as one of two things, the worst type of people... Or, what most people would usually immediately assume, beasts of violent nature. That's my guess why they're using the word "mutos". But, to answer your question, instead of going off on another lesson about word choice, I'm pretty sure the other creature will be called a Muto. I believe the creature is going to be more reptilian in design, I don't think that Legendary would use a giant bug as a main opponent for Godzilla, they'd want something that looks more threatening. Maybe a mutated komodo dragon or something which would undoubtedly be called "Muto" as well, or maybe "The Lizard Muto". I don't think that in a real life scenario, we'd be giving names left and right to every monster that showed up. I'm sure we'd develop a class system, and maybe Mutos is a class of beast, a size. Sort of like they did with the Kaiju in Pacific Rim, but instead of a numbering system, they use words, and maybe Mutos, is denoted to something large. I feel that they call Godzilla "Godzilla" is because maybe some soldiers recall a legend about a creature known as Gojira, and it gets called "Godzilla" in translation when they try to alert the U.N. about the presence of the beast. I dunno. I'm going off on a tangent again. xD Sorry. I hope I answered your question to some degree.

@GMAN115 I understand where your coming from, but this is as realistic as it gets. At least he still has some signature traits such as body figure(except for the feet) and his Atomic Breath! I like the creativity Gareth is using. He put his realistic imagination in a popular Kaiju Franchise. Just because some things are added to him does'nt mean it will affect the movie itself. Just give it a chance.

in Some aspects the New Godzilla would Dominate alot of our military weapons, but we have to remember how more advance our weapons have come since the last American Godzilla Movie. Also we must note there are possibly two other monsters in this movie, so we can only grip a small portion of what destruction can come from this. We all know what Godzilla Alone can do to a city................

I also want to add, this isn't an admittance of hatred for the Godzilla movies made in the last thirty years. I love quite a lot of them actually and still watch them often. But the 1960s had a spark and team talent that the genre hasn't found a lot of in the last three decades.

Kinda. They would always have one audience: The fanbase. Unfortunately, that's just not enough today. But I think InstictiveGigan is also hinting at a larger problem than just the dieing art of tokusatsu. The fact is the Godzilla series hasn't seen many great movies since the 1960s. The 1970s were fun, but goofy. The Heisei series was a screenwriting nightmare-- reduced to nothing but quick cash grabs by the end of its run. The Millennium series is similar, but a little more eloquent. Still, that resulted in very stagnant and repetitive story lines. It's not simply that the effects in Godzilla were stuck, but the filmmakers creating these movies were running out of steam as well. There have been some decent ideas in the last thirty years, but not a whole lot of revolution. The Heisei Gamera trilogy did a better job of that, but even that series reverted quickly with Gamera The Brave.

While it's nice to hope, I still doubt we'll see a trailer on the 3rd. And even if we do, I doubt it's for this reason. Legendary didn't put this quote in to hint at a release date, because I don't think they wanted the trailer to get out at all. The put the quote in because of the nature of the movie and how well it fits in thematically. So yeah, I hope we'll see a trailer on the 3rd, but my money is on the 8th. It'll probably be attached to Thor. And if not, we'll probably have to waif until the Hobbit comes out.

I really doubt the teaser was leaked intentionally, but the monologue that was used was 1 used by 1 of the people who worked on the Manhattan project which connects to Godzilla moreso than most serious monologues through history do. That and I believe that trailer came out last year at comic con so unless they knew over a year ago that they would have the movie done and ready to the point of showing a trailer, aaand that they would leak the trailer close to that I find extremely hard to believe.

Some animal species the male is bigger/stronger and others it\'s the female, so it all depends on the animal type the creators choose to mutate into Godzilla So, what creature will this Godzilla be. My guess is a critter dwelling in the deep sea. Now this can be... 1: An unidentified critter that looks like a pre-Godzilla monster. 2: A surviving marine reptile with gills that's been living in the deep sea (love to see the explanation for this critters survival). 3: [Your Guess Here]

Basically, they're living nuclear reactors (just like Godzilla),and they don't follow the rules of NATURE in terms of ability. Just check it out,and see what you think!

I appreciate that all of you have commented on my discussion, I enjoy a good debate. The latest comments bring up another good question, what original creature was the 2014 Godzilla before being mutated? As stated above, the Japanese Gojira was a surviving dinosaur that got mutated. Maybe for this Godzilla it's an unknown species of deep sea reptile/creature that got mutated or something, I just don't know yet. To Gman115, You bring up some good thoughts. I to wanted those symbolism accurately represented as well as realistic physiology/traits. Hence why I hope Godzilla's Atomic Breath is as powerful as the strongest Nuclear Bomb in history (to have the realistic effects of using Nukes). As for being a force of nature, after what I've seen of the LP Godzilla thus far, I'm confident this will be represented as well.

To InstinctiveGigan, at first I to thought of 400' tall. Just having the title of tallest Godzilla ever makes it very impressive. I looked up skyscrapers in San Francisco (the city that's supposed to 'greet' Godzilla) and was surprised at the sizes. The smallest Skyscraper they have is 400' tall! They have a lot of 400s, 500s, and even some 600s. The tallest is a little above 800'. Would Godzilla need to be just tall enough to be bigger than some skyscrapers but allow others to conceal him if needed? I know, I wish I could use the Comic Con trailer to get a size estimation, but it had nothing identifiable to guesstimate size.

One day Toho will probably make more Godzilla movies, but I think that day is so far away that they won't look like the movies we've come to love. So wouldn't worry about Godzilla reverting, per say. Tokusatsu is a dieing subgenre of film and television. The Japanese Godzilla and Gamera series are dead, both ended with box office flops. Other giant monster movies have either been less successful or marketed to a niche group. Very young children are the only ones that keep the genre alive with programing like Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. Meanwhile, special effects director Koichi Kawakita has implemented school courses about the dieing art of tokustatsu and how to film them-- it's basically a last ditch effort to introduce the art to another generation or at least make sure it won't simply be forgotten. I think the latter scenario is more likely. It Toho ever produces another Godzilla movie it will be a long time from now. Right now they figure they can make money off Godzilla by letting other studios make the movies for them. They can't lose in such a position. They only have something to gain out of that-- whether or not the new movie is a flop. By the time Toho does make another one they'll probably use a very different method of bringing him to life and use an entirely different generation of filmmakers to do it. But again, I imagine that day is very, very far away.
