This is an awesome discussion, you definitely know your stuff. I actually do hope Godzilla still has his regenerative powers. It's understandable that it would'nt be realistic, but the movie's gonna be about a 400 ft tall dinosaur who breathes atomic breathe, I think it's safe to say we can believe this Godzilla can have regenerative powers. In addition there are creatures in real life with regenerative powers, like lizards/sea stars that can regrow limbs and body parts, even deer can regrow broken antlers; you could apply this to Godzilla's armor. If the guy can still breath atomic rays, I think it's safe to say he can heal wounds quickly. After all I wouldn't imagine a Godzilla without regeneration surviving very long with just a thick hide, we'd just launch armor piercing missiles at him and he'd be done. No fun.

I didn't even know about the Disney movie and the Oz movie. The real threats are X-Men and Spider-Man, but it's not like either franchise have been doing what it used to do. The Amazing Spider-Man sold less tickets than the previous three films. It made $70 million less domestically than the weakest performing Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man 3. X-Men is somewhat in the same boat. X-Men: First Class was the fifth weakest selling X-Men movie, both domestically and worldwide. Making over $20 less than X-Men Origins: Wolverine (which was only a solo X-Men outing) and over $10 million less than the first X-Men which was released over 13 years ago. Tickets cost less then. Meanwhile, The Wolverine made $15 million less than First Class, which is not what Fox was hoping for considering X-Men Origins: Wolverine was such a massive hit. The difference is that X-Men: Days of Future Past is much bigger movie than the prior two X-Men movies. There's a chance getting the original cast together with the First Class cast will generate more buzz. But, like Godzilla, Days of Future Past hasn't been advertised either. Very few people know it's a movie crossing over two casts and some don't even know it's coming out. (Like Godzilla. That will change for both movies in the coming months.) Potentially, I think X-Men Days of Future Past is the biggest threat. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is as well, but I'm not as afraid of it as X-Men. The fact is the new Spider-Man had a very lukewarm reception and there was even talk of scrapping the sequel because it performed so much weaker than its predecessors. I see it doing about the same amount of business the last one did. One thing that Godzilla, X-Men and Spider-Man all have going for each other is the fact that they're some of the first big, blockbuster movies of the season. One of the reasons that Pacific Rim, The Wolverine and Riddick underperformed is because Iron Man 3, Man of Steel and Star Trek into Darkness came first. And even Star Trek underperformed, because Iron Man 3 made a billion dollars so quickly. There's only so much money to go around and for the most part, this year at least, the early summer movies cannibalized the others. Especially Iron Man 3... I'm happy Godzilla is coming out a lot earlier than Pacific Rim did.

Personally I'm not a fan of this realism, and here's why. David Goyer who wrote for most of this movie and has written for a few other movies so based off his past work the realism idea is suspended enough that the main character can be seen, but anything outside those bounds if off limits. This means space monsters, magic, and mechs will be out of the question leaving only the mutants as other potential monsters without back story changes. The realism will also have to encompass his beam making in probably a lot weaker than it has been for the last few installments which I'm okay will as I've said before I'd like to see a fight reminiscent of Godzilla raids again that actually looks like monsters fighting, but I know a lot of the fan will probably not be as happy. The military will have to have a lot more effect. Even if the monster has extremely hard skin the level our military power is at at the current time is also ridiculous and while it's a basic staple of Godzilla movies for the monster to shrug off military attacks from a realistic perspective it wouldn't be that easy, and they would have to have some effect, whether that be wounding or just driving away the monsters. The main characters will also be quite difficult to fit into this realistically, and have them at least matter. For the most part it follows a marine, with his wife and a scientist, but realistically none of these characters would be able to even come close to godzilla, as the radiation he would put out would borderline fatal making me wonder what makes them so special that I should care besides maybe Bryan Cranston's character as the scientist. The realism that is put in this movie has to be very small, only encompassing certain aspects if they really want to have this be a good movie. It's godzilla so the fact they're doing at all just because it seems to be a trend right now is something I'm not a fan of. Hopefully the realism ends with how the characters and society copes with the monster attacks rather than going for the full out this is realistically what would happen if a giant radiation breaking monster appeared.

InstinctiveGiganGodzilla 2014 ForumMy estimation on the 2014 Godzilla size!
Although Gareth has stated this Godzilla will be slightly taller, you have to wonder just how much that is. Is it 350 ft? Doubt it. Maybe 375 ft? Sounds more like it. I'd personally love if this Godzilla reached 400 ft. It'd just be awesome to have that label, I want Godzilla to be gigantic; big enough for escape to seem impossible for true terror, but small enough to still be beside buildings.

I dunno, even as a kid, Godzilla ALWAYS took precedence over any Super Heroes, no matter which it was. With the tone Edwards and company are going for with Godzilla 2014, it will tailor to both younger audiences as well as older ones. Yes, Godzilla will have some stiff competition, but I think the public will very soon grow tired of all these super-hero movies being jammed down our throats. So, my money is on Godzilla. Remember too, Godzilla's opening in Japan - will be HUGE. Will probably blow Spider-Man 2 and the next X-Men film clean out of the water.

Gareth Edwards stated that this Godzilla will be only a hair taller than the tallest official Godzilla (which is 100 meters tall). Your best bet for his height in this movie would be 110-120 meters tall. The Marvel Godzilla is NOT a real Godzilla. In fact, it wasn't even close to 600 feet tall! The official stats for the monster on Marvel Wiki say that it is only somewhere between 20,000 tons and 60,000 tons. Marvel Godzilla is NOT the biggest Godzilla

I think we will have trailer by November 3, 2013. If I were them, I wouldn't miss the November 3, 1954 date (this was when Godzilla was first made). By then, they'd have a better and even more interesting trailer than the leaked Comic Con one. Of course, I also expect a trailer during the Super Bowl.

GuyvanticGodzilla ForumGodzilla's future at TOHO?
Depending on how the American Godzilla does this time around, will in effect Godzilla\'s future. As I have told some Godzilla fans at work, I expect the movie to do as well here like Pacific Rim did if not slightly better due to the name, but really take off in countries like Japan. If things tank with this new movie, then we are liable to see another round of movies made by TOHO like they did when the Tri-Star Godzilla crashed and burned. If Toho starts making Godzilla movies again I personally would love to see a movie in which we have a worthy Godzilla vs Godzilla, Japanese vs American. I would not want them to use any of the following monsters because they have been over used: Mothra, King Ghidorah, Mecha-Godzilla, Rodan, Angilas (who is my second favorite), Gigan who is on the verge of being over used. I would like to see TOHO use some of the lesser used monsters like Ebirah, Hedorah, Varan, maybe see Space-Godzilla and Destoroyah return, and finally bring Bagan to life. I at least would like to see another long running series like the Showa where the lesser monsters are used, and if Mechas have to be used, have them in the very last movie. I mean there is what, including Mechani-Kong in King Kong Escapes, 8 movies in which Kaiju fight mecha and now there is Pacific Rim and Pacific Rim 2 in the works. I dont want to see another Mecha for a good while. As for the suit comments, I am praying that they use a suit for this movie, I will be slightly disappointed if they didnt, but I realize that the suit-actor era has pretty much ended with Godzilla Final Wars and Gamera the Brave. Like Gojira signified the end of Stop-motion, so did the Tri-Star Godzilla signify the beginning of the end of suit acting which, barely used a suit in the movie (like when Zilla comes through the pavement for the first fish-bait trap and a couple other scemes) and culminated with King Kong, Dragon Wars, and Cloverfield. Its just alot cheaper to use CG. Whether TOHO themselves use CG when they barely have IMO, will remain to be seen.

Regardless of what most of us thought about the movie itself in November of 1998 the first trailer for Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace was released and it looked great and that film was released in May of 1999. I have faith that a very polished trailer can and will be released this November. Although I doubt Nov. 3rd will be the date. Good things our coming guys it will not be long now.

I get the immense hype and not to be pretentious at all but are people buying figure sets without seeing what they are? I am definitely up for buying Godzilla 2014 merchandise but I would personally like to see what I'm buying! I will be buying figures for the film but after at least a picture of it! I know there wont be any at the moment as it will spoil aspects of the film etc, but why buy a figure set that you haven't even seen? Maybe I'm just being a prat but it doesn't make sense to me... Completely agree with you InstinctiveGigan on Legendary playing viral marketing games, seems to be working if it is the case.

The reason being is new people visiting the site will see the latest news, get excited, want to voice their opinions, and hey presto there's a repetitive feed. Its not like new users are going to come along and pour through the archives of existing threads to see if the thread has been discussed before. In all fairness repetition is going to be consistent as the information on the film is limited and only being slowly drip fed (we don't even have an official trailer online yet for starters).

"Post-production in filming is the easiest part of the whole process. Pre-production is the most important since the whole process of everything after depends on it, and production is the hardest part because it's all planning and doing. But editing, special effects, and so on isn't that hard to get done in comparison. Especially since they can edit and add special effects WHILE they're still filming." Eh... Calling any part of filmmaking "the easiest part" is a very, very bold statement, but if we have to label it as such I disagree completely that it's the "easiest part". If anything pre-production is easier simply because all the planning, story boarding, designs, location scouting, casting...etc... is done. It's all about making sure production and post-production go smoothly. It's the most important part in order to make sure the production runs well, agreed, but it's fairly stress free in comparison to the editors, sound design team, foly, CG, practical, visual, composite and other effects driven teams that have to complete their jobs in order for the cut to be finished. Just because parts of a film can be cut and worked on in post while the movie is being shot doesn't make their job any easier. "For example, the new trailer they showed this year at Comic Con with the airport and "Muto" was all footage from the actual film. It was edited, cut, and had special effects in it like the film was already done even though Gareth said they'd barely finished filming the day before. Meaning that they did special effects and editing during and after filming; and that was around 3 months ago. Trust me, they can and WILL have a perfect trailer ready by Nov. 3rd. It all depends on what Legendary and Warner Bros. believe would be the best time to advertise the film." I agree having a trailer out by Novermber 3rd is possible, but to expect a huge chunk of the film to be polished and used in a trailer is pretty unrealistic. For example, even with the Comic-Con footage, the shots were unfinished. The halo jump did feature the red smoke and the airport attack used incomplete CGI. No doubt that footage was some of the most complete, but that's not saying a whole lot. There's an entire cut of a film that needs to refine the visual effects, color correction and various aspects of sound. This process will go on probably until March at the latest. That's not to say there isn't usable footage, but I wouldn't be surprised if the first official teaser doesn't reveal much effects-wise. Thor 2 and the Hobbit are the perfect films to do this since Thor 2 and the Hobbit 2 are already predicted to be a huge budget success with both normal movie-goers and total nerds going to see both. We're talking millions of people going to see these movies. No film before May 16th 2014 (Godzilla 2014's release date) will be this successful financially; not the 300 prequel, not the Seventh Son, nothing. Legendary WILL release the trailer on one of these two movies. It's commone knowledge and a no-brainer for a film company. Trust me. I'll give everyone 5 bucks if the trailer doesn't come on the Hobbit or Thor. I agree The Hobbit is most likely, but I'm not going to assume what the marketing team analysts have reviewed and rest easy that it's when we'll see something. A Godzilla trailer appearing appearing in front of The Hobbit, or not, wouldn't surprise me either way. But I'm fairly positive we won't be getting one on November 3rd. On another topic, I do think The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which also doesn't have a trailer yet) coming out the week before Godzilla will be as successful financially. And Seventh Son was pushed to November 2014, so no worries waiting on that one.

@Durp004 Profits aren't counted until after orders are delivered and no one could pre-order the toys at present anyway because the company had none in stock. I'm really starting to think Legendary is playing us like a master puppeteer. I mean hyping up the Godzilla Encuonter, a perfectly legit and HD Teaser trailer "accidentally" getting leaked online, only for a 2nd one to follow, and now this? Something's up, all I know is I can't wait till the movie starts getting public advertisement (hopefully November 3rd) so all this stupid mumbo jumbo can stop.
