Interesting that those "random" responses are always the same. I've tried it three times and it's given me consistent results. Nothing random there.

Those are just automatic responses that it gives randomly whenever you type in someting that isn't in its word bank.

Durp004Godzilla ForumWill we ever see King Caesar make an Appearance again in future Godzilla Films ?

Yes it is a fun scene however I'm extremely biased towards it because my favorite monster, Rodan, finally shows up in the Millennium series and just flies around till he gets knocked out of the air and KOed.

My evidence for this is the mutoreasearch.net site. I've typed in every monster name I could think of and only three say anything other than "we can neither confirm nor deny the existence of this monster." Gojira gives you the King of the Monsters reply. Monster X tells you to seek shelter immediately. Finally, Meganulan gives you a security warning, roughly the same warning as when you enter Joe Brody or Monarch. That's pretty much an admission the way I see it.

Wait you're angry that it might get somewhat censored because Final Wars didn't say the "F-word"? Seriously? I mean I could see being angry if the things they censored actually mattered to the story, or were important but who cares if they cut out a few cuss words?

The mutos could be VERY similar to Megaguirus and pay an extreme amount of homage to the character but I don't think it's going to be the exact same monster.

if the bomb really is just a large bomb to be loaded onto a plane then it likely has little significance to the story. they will probably drop a whole bunch of these on godzilla at a time and what we see in the trailer is the process of them loading those bombs, so not really an important scene at all. this makes sence because in a trailer you wnat to make a movie look interesting but you don't want to reveal to much, so many times an insignificant event will be portrayed as important in a trailer. an example of this is 47 ronin. on the posters you see this crazy looking tatooed pirate guy and it makes you think that he has something important to do with the plot, but guess what, he pretty much has less than a minute of screentime and no importance whatsoever. however, they put him on the poster because his apearence grabs attention and fuels curiosity. i propose that the same thing is happening with the bomb in the godzilla trailer, it grabs our attention, but doesn't reavel anything big whatsoever, which is exactly what its supposed to do.

I think I've heard a few people say that the large bomb is actually a very large and powerful airstrike-based payload, the largest type in the world. Of course, something like that wouldn't be able to kill Godzilla, but it may be enough to cause a bit of a flinch with the movie's realism, but in a way that doesn't really do any harm. For the HALO jump, I'm guessing scouts being sent in to the burning remains of cities to find out positions of survivors, as well as gain intel on the creatures themselves. Also, I can't help but feel that a scene eerily reminiscent of the first scene of the original Gojira would help set the tone and introduction of the big G-man, whilst giving old fans a bit of nostalgia.

I didn't think about that. That is very clever. Also Akio your idea is probably pretty close to the movie.

I've read that bs before. The thing is Toho is not going to allow Warner/Legendary to introduce a new kaiju into the franchise. That must doesn't make sense from an intellectual property rights perspective. Also, until the movie is released the licensing details will remain confidential. You can dispute Megaguirus, but you can confirm both Meganulan and Monster X on the M.U.T.O. research site.  It is also obvious that the monster in the leaked trailer is a queen Meganulan. Whether she mutates into Megaguirus, per se, remains to be seen.

@Zodgilla

Kids will see Godzilla in the trailer and flock to that-- like it or not. The Dark Knight wasn't exactly for kids either, but they flocked to it and there were toys everywhere for the movie.

That said, it won't be PG. PG-13 seems like the most realistic MPAA rating for this movie.

@Backinaction: I don't know where you got that idea, but this movie absolutely won't be "for kids". How much darker could the trailer be? There's also going to be alot of human drama in this one, not something you see kids flock to...

I'm not worried about the rating regardless R/PG13 it will be fine.  Im more concerned that it could suffer from the Man of Steal Syndrome and have product placement out the ass.  For me some of it works to make the enviornment feal authentic but like in MOS it was a bit much.

In terms of sheer enjoyment from voice acing and enjoyment of the portrayal of, it'd have to be Godzilla raids again(aka Gigantis the fire monster) or Godzilla's Revenge. Both movies leave me laughing at the horrible voice overs done to some of the characters in the movies concerned.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla 2014 Forumwill this be the greatest godzilla film ever?

Zodgilla, I don't think you have a very good understanding of the series if that's how you look at it.

I agree that the Heisei and Millennium films were live action cartoons at their best, but the later Godzilla movies are also some of the weaker ones. You claim that the franchise is for a niche fanbase. This is true, but it's only been that way during the Heisei and especially the Millennium movies. Those two series were films made for the fans, the 1960s however is a different story:

Toho pumped out not just Godzilla movies, but other monster and sci-fi movies, throughout the 50s and 60s, like clockwork-- not because it was for a niche group, but because large masses were coming to see these movies. Japan was slowly rebuilding its film industry and it was using a style, developed by special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya (whom even Gareth Edwards has said, "a one of a kind innovator of special effects, the likes of which we'll probably never see again in cinema.") to compete with Hollywood's special effects films. That style is typically known as tokustatsu-- the form of using miniatures and suitmation to bring things to life. This style does not intend to replicate reality and look "realistic", but instead works to create its own reality and a world where mutli-colored sets and extravagant machinery exist. The idea is that the miniatures aren't supposed to look photo realistic, but rather as sufficient representations of their real life counterparts.

You said they aren't comparable to "modern special effects", but that's a statement with flaws in it. Modern tokusatsu special effects have been known to be better than the 1950s-1970s films on certain occasions, but I think what you mean to say is that it isn't comparable to "modern western effects". That's entirely different. Western effects aim to do the opposite of tokusatsu. Western special effects is all about replicating reality to a fine detail. Tokusatsu is not. Its a misunderstanding that a lot of casual Godzilla fans get wrong. Tokusatsu is not trying to be photo realistic. So lets not assume that special effects are poor just because they're not realistic, that's not true. They're trying to be different.

Now that we've cleared up the special effects in Godzilla movies, consider the time: 1960s Japan is booming because of the movies Godzilla, Rodan, The Mysterians...etc... King Kong vs. Godzilla is a world wide box office success, Godzilla vs. Mothra is praised by critics in multiple countries and is, to this day, considered one of the top best in the series. Audience attendance for these movies are higher than any of the movies in the Heisei and Millennium series. Why? Because they weren't niche. They were box office blowouts with large audiences enjoying the spectacle.

Add to that Japan's most prestigeous actors being in these movies: Takeshi Shimura was in  five of these films and he was considered the greatest actor in the world by Time magazine. Many of the early Godzilla movies had award winning casts that were in Akira Kurasawa's films. (Kurasawa being one of the greatest directors in cinema history.) These weren't B-movie actors, they were well known talents that were constantly being praised in every other movie they starred in.

And being "campy" doesn't necessarily mean "bad" either. Ishiro Honda knew these movies were campy, but he embraced it like an artform. He used it to keep the movies fun, but maintained a level of craft to the camp that no other director or crew could accomplish. The Gamera movies, certain Jun Fukuda Godzilla movies and other inspired films could never hit the right balance that Honda always nailed. It's a gutsy and even risky thing to attempt; something that most Hollywood directors will never, ever do. So to claim that a movie you haven't seen is better than that level of talent is downright niave and neglectful of others' craft.

As for dialogue, the writing in most of the Godzilla movies, particularly the 1960s, was quite good. Depending on what subtitles you're reading the translation may never be spot on due to how different the Japanese language is. And if you're relying on the dubs for accurate dialogue then you're pretty much not getting the same lines.

No offense, but unless you understand the intricacies and art of the series, claiming any movie you haven't seen is better than 28 others before it shows an innate lack of research and understanding, alongside a great deal of niavety.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla ForumWhy is Destroy All Monsters on DVD so expensive?

@Barrett Frische

Destroy All Monsters, both the ADV and Media Blasters versions, are out of print and very hard to find. The ADV version has been out of print for over 10 years and the Media Blasters version was halted by Toho for having special features that they didn't approve. So you're only going to find them for very expensive prices. Your best bet is eBay or keep looking for a used copy that is in your price range.

The good news is Media Blasters has (apparently) resolved their issues with Toho, so there's a chance they may re-release Destroy All Monsters in the future.

@Shrek

Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster, Son of Godzilla, Godzilla vs. Hedorah, Godzilla vs. Gigan and Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla are also out of print. Sony used to own the DVD rights to them, but decided to let them go. Now Toho has the rights back and some other American company will have to negociate with Toho if we ever want to see a re-release of those movies again.

Godzilla 1985 has some complicated rights issues that most people refer to as a black hole. An official DVD of the movie has never been released and it seems unlikely it will be released anytime soon.

Translations are a little different than English titles, though. For example, Gigantis, the Fire Monster and Godzilla vs. the Thing are both titles given by the American distributors.

The translations for those movies are literally, Godzilla's Counterattack and Mothra against Godzilla. Meanwhile, Toho's official english titles are Godzilla Raids Again and Mothra vs. Godzilla.
