MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-23-2014 1:25 AMI'm not quite sure what you're referring to. In 1994, Godzilla vs. Destoroyah came out in Japan. If you mean to say the scrapped idea of Godzilla fighting Ghost Godzilla, it was a decision made by Toho because his last few movies had already seen him face duplicates of himself such as Spacegodzilla and Mechagodzilla.
But as far as I can tell, and I could be wrong since it's not a subject I've delved into very heavily, there was never an American Godzilla movie planned or even conceptualized in America in 1994. Again, I could be wrong so feel free to correct me if I am. If you have a site where you found the information I'd love to read it. Anything new I can learn about the G's history, realized or no, the better equipped I am to participate properly in discussions like these.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-23-2014 6:17 AMWell, i see none really, but then again we dont know much yet. But i wouldnt guess there would be any connections. I actually really liked the 94 script, although there were some huge flaws here and there. I have to re-read it again soon though.

MemberBaragonFeb-23-2014 1:52 PMI've always been fascinated by the 1994 Godzilla script, along with the 1970's version that was almost produced. The Gryphon sounded like an interesting opponent, but the characterization of Godzilla felt a little off. Its interestig to compare the sript with the 1995 Gamera: Guardian of the Universe; they are very similar, from the hero monster created by an ancient civilization to defeat the enemy monster to the enemy monster itself, a ravenous beast that grows as it consumes other living beings. While it worked amazingly well for Gamera, it wasn't as good a fit for Godzilla. Ultimately they changed it dramatically and it became the loathed 1998 version, so its no doubt that, despite its problems, it would hav been a much better film that GINO. That said, I doubt any elements form this aborted script will emerge in the new film. We are going to get something original and truly amazing this May. :)

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-23-2014 3:08 PMwell... i cant say that there wont be anyting in comman, perhaps a few conections, but those mystical things that i saw in the script of 94 most likely wont be in the movie.
but maybe the mutos might be somthing like an incarnation of the scrapt gryphon? because we still know little about these strange things. just a thought.

Like you, I was always fascinated by the 1994 script and wondered how fans would have recieved it. Surely the Godzilla in that script has far more in common with the Godzilla of the earlier movies than GINO did with any of them, barring the origin of course, but was it still too different?
In any case, I've always wondered if Shusuke Kaneko had gotten his hands on the 1994 script and tweaked it to work with Gamera. In any case, I'm glad we got some version of that particular storyline's myths. It worked great for Gamera: Guardian of the Universe which is clearly a superior film to GINO. So it might have worked as a big budget Hollywood film... Who knows.
