Every since I saw the Teaser, one question has been in the back of my mind... Why the HALO jump? Now I get that this is a situation that we've never been in before and the military is getting desperate and whatnot... but there has to be more to it. What would be their purpose? They are unlikely to be evacuating civilians since there are so few of them. If it was the case that there's a high value target being evacuated, why would you need multiple soldiers when none of them could fight such a big threat no matter their numbers?
Here's my theory. At this point of the movie, the military is running out of options. Godzilla has taken out the Navy, he's shooting down any fighter jets and helicopters he see's with his atomic breath, and tanks and standard missiles have been wiped out/shown ineffective.
Perhaps the military wants to strike him with something he won't actually "see" coming? What if the paratroopers are dropping in, so that Godzilla doesn't shoot down their plane, ad so the troopers are able to get close to him this way right in the middle of the destruction, and are being tasked with placing some sort of GPS triangulation devices on Godzilla? Using these devices, the military could strike him with an AC-130 from above the clouds so as to not reveal the planes location, same for accurate carpet bombing, or even a missile salvo from ICBM's or something of that sort?
This is the only thing I've come up with... since everytime someone I know watches the trailer they always say to me "What are those little people going to do against that big thing?" this is the only answer I could come up with. What do you think?
