UPDATE (08/30/2016):
"Insider sources" claim Funimation will make their official announcement September 9th with up to 3 times as many theaters currently listed by Astounding Beyond Belief. We'll see if this proves to be true a week from this Friday or if they decide to bump up the announcement.
Original article:
Although Funimation has still yet to make an official announcement, the last month has shown a steady increase of theaters booking Shin Godzilla across the U.S. These theaters all but confirm an October 11th limited release debut for Toho's latest Godzilla epic. (With the exception of Fairfax, Virginia only listing October 12th, Santa Fe, New Mexico only lists October 14th and Yonkers, New York is TBA.)
Thanks to the extraordinary blog, Astounding Beyond Belief, a list and Google Map has been compiled of all the theaters across the country playing Shin Godzilla, aka, Godzilla Resurgence.
We want to heavily emphasize that it is highly unlikely this is the complete list. Until Funimation makes an official announcement, it should be understood that these dates and locations were compiled by fans based on theaters that have Shin Godzilla listed on their website.
You can check the links below to see if the film will be playing near you. Don't panic if you don't see it near you just yet. Funimation will likely have a full list of theaters soon:
For most theaters the final day of Shin Godzilla's run will be October 18th. In most cities fans will have 4-to-5 days to see the film—Which is the case per most limited releases.
Funimation's theatrical division has largely only focused on limited releases, so the fact Shin Godzilla is getting the same treatment shouldn't come as a surprise. In fact, for the film, it should be a good thing. Funimation will likely be targeting just the fans to pull the highest numbers possible in a 4-to-5 day time span. It will also risk less confusion as being a sequel to the 2014 movie.
Our best guess on the audio? Don't expect a dubbed version. Funimation's theatrical releases of Attack on Titan Parts I and II were subtitled, as was the Rurouni Kenshin trilogy.
We currently wait for Funimation's confirmation on the October 11th, 2016 release date.
Shin Godzilla is currently playing in Japan to massive success and is #2 at the box office in its 5th week. You can follow Shin Godzilla's box office numbers by clicking here.
