In 2013, Tamashii Nations released the first (and currently only) Showa kaiju in their S.H.MonsterArts line of super articulated action figures: Godzilla 1964. Despite the company deeming the figure a failure, due to it not selling to the older demographic they thought a Showa figure would attract, the figure sold incredibly well, and went out of print within a year of its release. The figure is now a highly sought after piece, regularly fetching up to 150-200 dollars. But for those who missed out on the first release, hope is on the horizon…
Tamashii, apparently following a pattern this year of focusing on repaint/reissue Godzilla figures from previous years (including an orange Poster Color Version Godzilla 2014, a Special Color Version of Godzilla 2000, the blue-spined Spitfire Godzilla 2014, and a reissued Rebirth Godzilla), has announced a reissue of their Godzilla 1964 figure, now dubbed “Godzilla 1964: Emergence Version”. This new version of the beloved suit will feature a dusty paintjob on its back, simulating the look of the King of the Monsters in his first appearance in the classic film Mothra vs Godzilla (1964), as the beast rises from the silt on the coast of Japan. Plus, it features an Atomic Ray!
From Tamashii:
S.H.MonsterArts Godzilla (1964) joined the Tamashii MonsterArts legacy back in 2013 and now he is making a comeback with this exceptional Special Color Version. Fans will recall the striking scene of Godzilla emerging from the earth in a cloud of sand and dust. This new edition brings to life the Godzilla from this unforgettable moment with an authentic earthy coloration. Set also includes a Showa-style white breath effect part and effect support.
This figure marks the first time Tamashii has reissued a web exclusive figure, a big no-no for the company who has promised to keep such limited releases to one production run, to protect the collectable nature of the figures and their value to collectors. However, the new paint job is the loophole, allowing the figure to be re-released as, technically, a brand new figure. For fans who missed the initial Godzilla 1964, this is the perfect opportunity to add this absolutely classic Godzilla design to your collections! Plus, supporting this release could finally be the gateway into the Showa era that fans of this line have been praying for…
The figure, a web exclusive, will have an MSRP of $63.99, and will release October, 2015 in Japan, and November, 2015 here in the US. Check out some sites where it can be pre-ordered here!
