Godzilla's parent company Toho, Tsuburaya Productions, the creators of Ultraman, and Toei, the owners of Kamen Rider, have united to cryptically announce the Shin Japan Heroes Universe. Little is known about what this project will be beyond the official website's announcement, "We are planning a wide range of future measures such as events and commercialization."
The Shin Japan Heroes Universe is a project based around the four tokusatsu projects by legendary, Japanese Academy Award winning director Hideaki Anno. The director inadvertently began this journey writing and directing the 2017 Japanese Academy Award Best Picture winner, Shin Godzilla. He also directed Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 (Shin Evangelion in Japan), the fourth and final film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series. The movie was Japan's highest grossing of 2021.
Anno also wrote the screenplay for Shin Ultraman, due to open in Japan May 13th, 2021. The film is directed by Shin Godzilla co-director Shinji Higuchi. Meanwhile, Anno will direct Shin Kamen Rider, expected to drop March of 2023.
Details on the Shin Japan Heroes Universe Project are scarce at the moment. There is no confirmation this a "cinematic universe." The official website encourages fans to, "pay attention to the Shin era in 2022!"
