Collider recently caught up with the talented Sally Hawkins for her new film Maudie, which opened this weekend. During the interview Hawkins was prodded for details on her next project, Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Hawkins played Dr. Vivienne Graham in the 2014 reboot and will reprise her role in the sequel. She wasn't allowed to reveal anything significant, but commented on director Michael Dougherty's enthusiasm and being grateful to return.
I spoke with him [Michael Dougherty] the other week, and he seems really smart and excited. Going from a small, tiny, intimate indie film to Godzilla is quite a change, but it’s also the same. A camera is a camera. You’re dealing with human beings. The circumstances are quite extreme with Godzilla. I didn’t really have much to do in the first film, and I can’t tell you much [about this one]. But it’s nice to be asked back, always. It’s never guaranteed.
When asked if her character would have a more significant role she seemed to be in the dark.
"I hope so," said Hawkins, "Whether I make the final cut or not, I don’t know. Touch wood."
It's entirely possible she's yet to read the script or is once again regulated to a small part. Whatever be the case, Hawkins will be a part of the production which begins filming in Norcross, Georgia this Monday, June 19th.
Sally Hawkins co-stars in Godzilla: King of the Monsters with Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Super 8, Friday Night Lights), Vera Farmiga (The Departed), O'Shea Jackson (Straight Outta Compton), Aisha Hinds (If I Stay), Anthony Ramos (Hamilton), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Randy Havens (Stranger Things), Ken Watanabe, (Godzilla), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Bradley Whitford (Get Out, West Wing) and Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). The film will be directed by Michael Dougherty from his screenplay co-written by Zach Shields. Alex Garcia is producing.
Are you excited about Hawkins' return to Godzilla? Do you hope she gets a larger part in the upcoming sequel? Give us your thoughts in the comments below.
