Over the last three years Toho has featured a tokusatsu short film on Godzilla Day, November, 3rd. Of particular interest, Godzilla vs. Hedorah (2021) and Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks (2022) took fans by storm over the last two years. During the live stream of Godzilla Festival events, on the official Youtube Godzilla Channel, both films made their world wide debut. History will repeat itself in celebration of a beloved Godzilla ally.
Toho has unveiled the crowdfunding website for the new Jet Jaguar suit. Like the Gigan suit last year, made possible via crowdfunding, Toho and suit maker Shinichi Wakasa are soliciting funds for Jet Jaguar's return. Wakasa was responsible for bringing to life a variety of Heisei series adversaries, including Rodan ('93), MechaGodzilla ('93), SpaceGodzilla and Destoroyah. He also constructed the Millennium Series Godzillas. (Sans "GMK".) Last year he brought the Showa Gigan back to life and will do the same for Jet Jaguar. The original 1973 suit was created by veterans Nobuyuki Yasumaru and Tomoki Kobayashi, the latter of which built every Godzilla suit from 1973-1995.
The short will once again be directed by Kazuhiro Nakagawa who helmed both Godzilla vs. Hedorah and Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks over the last two years. He was an assistant director on the Attack on Titan live action films, Shin Godzilla (2016) and Shin Ultraman (2021). Additionally, he directed shorts for Godzilla theme park attractions including, Godzilla vs. Evangelion: The Real 4-D and the zip line attraction, Godzilla Interception Operation Awaji. He's also directed two episodes of Ultraman Z during the pandemic.
Donating to the new Jet Jaguar suit will entitle fans to perks, including a Blu-ray copy of the upcoming short film. You can give to Jet Jaguar's return here.
You can expect the new Godzilla/Jet Jaguar short this coming Godzilla Day, November 3rd, 2023.
