Scified is back for another weekly kaiju recap article. This past week saw the occurrence of a couple of big Monsterverse announcements and a variety of Godzilla merchandise reveals. We apologize for this week's recap being published later than usual. There was a slight formatting issue on the site that has since been resolved.
Last Thursday marked the first entry in Legendary's new Monsterverse Watchalong with a viewing of Godzilla (2014). The official social media accounts of Legendary and of people who worked on the film shared live commentary during the scheduled viewing. Amongst these was the film's director Gareth Edwards, who shared lots of interesting BTS information and concept artwork from the film. By far the most interesting thing that arose from the Watchalong however was a brand new image of the upcoming Monsterverse Titan Camazotz. You can view the image below and find out more information about Camazotz here. The next installment in the Monsterverse Watchalong will take place this Thursday at 5 pm PST with Kong: Skull Island.
The apparel company Patrick announced a new pair of Mothra inspired shoes. Patrick has previously released both Godzilla and Chibi Godzilla shoes in partnership with TOHO. The new Mothra shoes are scheduled to release in Japan later this month for approximately $147 per pair.
NECA revealed their new box-style packaging and artwork for their upcoming Godzilla 2001 (GMK) figure. The new reissue of the figure is scheduled to start shipping out to retailers later this month.
Lastly, X-Plus formally announced a variety of new figures. First off was a new 30cm Godzilla 1993 figure. The RIC version of the figure will feature gold particles on its skin, representing where Rodan revived Godzilla during the conclusion of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II. Both figures will release in July, with the standard version costing approximately $189 and "Resurrection Godzilla" around $205.
X-Plus also revealed official images of their new DefoReal Godzilla 1974 figure. The RIC variant of the figure will include a minifigure version of a Third Planet of the Black Hole Alien, which is a species that appeared in the 1974 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Both versions will release in September, with the standard figure costing approximately $67 and the RIC variant around $72.
Lastly for this week is the new X-Plus DefoReal Hedorah Clear Black Version figure. This figure will only be available through a new SHONEN-RIC online web lottery event called the "Spring Great Kaiju Festival." The figure will be limited to only 300 pieces and will cost approximately $47. The figure is now available for pre-order, although its current availability status is uncertain.
