A new Monsterverse Titan has been revealed! During an unexpected panel by Legendary this weekend at the LA Comic Con, we were given our first look at "Camazotz." Sporting a bat-like appearance, Camazotz is said to appear in an upcoming Kong graphic novel.
"Camazotz" is prominent in Mayan mythology, where the figure is associated with sacrifice, night, and death. The literal translation of the name "Camazotz" in English is "Death Bat." Another notable feature is that Camazotz is commonly shown as having only a single eye in traditional Mayan descriptions.
Having a new Titan with a mythical background is nothing new for the Monsterverse. Many of the new Titans showcased in Godzilla: King of the Monsters have a history of being associated with cultural legends, so it's not surprising that Legendary is continuing this trend with Camazotz. The new Titan may also be paying homage to other classic kaiju, such as Bagorah, the Giant Bat, or Battra.
Are you excited that there's now a new mammal/flying Titan in the Monsterverse? Let us know your thoughts about Camazotz in the comments below!
