A lot of significant Godzilla vs. Kong news was revealed over the course of the past week. Additionally, a variety of new kaiju figure reveals also took place. So, without further ado, let's jump into this week's kaiju news recap.
The most surprising announcements came in the form of two new updates for Godzilla vs. Kong. First off was the reveal that Junkie XL would be composing the score for the film. Some of his previous works include Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Alita: Battle Angel, Terminator: Dark Fate, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
But the biggest Monsterverse announcement was certainly the news that Godzilla vs. Kong would be delayed until May 21st, 2021. This report isn't necessarily shocking due to all of the current uncertainty within the film industry. However, it's still disheartening for many fans, as the film has now been delayed multiple times.
The first big figure reveal came from NECA Toys, and no... it wasn't a Godzilla figure (this time). Instead, NECA announced that they are finally producing a King Kong figure! The figure isn't directly based off of any specific design, but it's very obviously inspired by the original 1933 design for Kong. You won't have to wait long if you plan to get one of the figures, because the release date is currently set for September, 2020.
The figure news from NECA continued with two new sets of images for their upcoming Godzilla figures. The two new figures are titled "Biollante Bile" and "Hyper Maser Blast" and are repaints of the standard versions of each figure. Currently, both figures are scheduled to release (at least in the UK) sometime during mid-September.
Lastly for this week was the unveiling of a new DefoReal Mechagodzilla (1974) figure by X-Plus. The RIC variant of the figure will include a light up gimmick for both eyes, adding to the figure's display/photography possibilities. You can pre-order the figure now for approximately $74 with a scheduled release date of November, 2020.
