Godzilla may be the King of the Monsters, but it seems King Kong is king of the Box Office. Official numbers are in and Kong: Skull Island has raked in over $535,205,906 worldwide. Compared to the worldwide take of $529,076,069 Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla accumulated, this puts Kong: Skull Island ahead of Godzilla by a whopping $6,129,837. Skull Island also surpassed Godzilla in just 31 days, while Godzilla attained its worldwide gross after a total of 105 days.

Kong: Skull Island had a lot to live up to and it seems as though the film has achieved its goal. Not only do these numbers signify an appreciation for the property, it bodes very well for the cinematic Monsterverse Legendary and Warner Brothers have created.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (Godzilla 2) begins filming this June in Atlanta and is scheduled to film well into October, 2017, with a release date of March 22nd, 2019.
Godzilla vs. Kong is currently being formulated by a team of writers, with no scheduled production start date announced yet. However the film is slated to hit theaters May 29th, 2020 if all goes well.
