McDonald's Japan will start producing "Be@rbrick" Happy Mills which will include brand characters as well as Godzilla himself. The promotion comes with a new commercial aping moments from the Heisei Godzilla series. You can watch it below:
Fans have noted the specific moments that the ad cleverly pays homage to:
The katakana "McDonald's" font is the same as "King Ghidorah" in the opening title of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991).
The reference to the psychic girl is an obvious reference to Heisei series regular Miki Saegusa, played by Megumi Odaka.
The pilot in a high-tech cockpit echoes the many G-Force officers, flying various anti-Godzilla vehicles. (Kazuma Aoki from Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla II [1993] pictured below the McDonald's pilot.)
The McDonald's Cosmos appear to be wearing the same exact costumes as actresses Keiko Imamura and Sayaka Osawa from Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992). (Pictured below the McDonald's Cosmos.)
The Be@rbricks include Godzilla, Grimace, Hamburglar and Birdie--The promotion begins in Japan on December 20th, 2023.
