Two classic tokusatsu/Japanese science fiction franchises were honored at the VFX-Japan Awards this year. Godzilla the Ride: Giant Monster Battle Summit won in the Short Film category. Godzilla the Ride is an attraction at the Seibuen Amusement Park directed by two time Japanese Academy Award winning director Takashi Yamazaki (Always: Sunset on Third Street, Returner, Space Battleship Yamato). Yamazaki will helming the next feature length Godzilla film tentatively titled Godzilla Zero, which hits theaters this November.
Shin Ultraman adds to its mountain of accolades after racking up four Japanese Academy Awards. The film won a VFX-Japan award for the Live-Action Theatrical Film category.
This is the second year in a row the Godzilla franchise has won a VFX-Japan award. Godzilla: Singular Point won for the TV Animation CG category in 2022. CG directors Ryuichi Ikeuchi, Yuji Koshida and Seishi Suzuki were honored for their work.
