The Official Godzilla Store website has been updated with details regarding the 6th annual Godzilla Festival in Japan. A countdown has been added to the site with the new key visual of Yuji Sakai's replica of the 1954 "ShodaiGoji" Godzilla suit. In his eyes reflect Gigan, honoring the Nebula M Spacehunter cyborg's 50th anniversary celebration.
In addition to the CG shortfilm, Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, another short film will be produced by director Kazuhiro Nakagawa. Nakagawa directed the tokusatsu shorts for the last two years, Godzilla Appears at G-Fest (2020) and the Godzilla vs. Hedorah short from last year. Nakagawa also directed episodes of Ultraman Z and the current series, Ultraman Decker.
This year's festival will also include the debut of a 1972 Gigan suit replica. Expected to show up in Nakagawa's short, the new suit is being built by Shinchi Wakasa, the suit designer for the Millennium series Godzilla suits (sans "GMK") and popular Heisei series villains such as Destoroyah, SpaceGodzilla, MechaGodzilla and Rodan. The original Gigan (pictured below) has since degraded and lost to time.
Plenty of other exciting announcements and merchandise is expected this year as well. The events begin from noon-8:00PM, Tokyo time and will be streamed online. Stay tuned for more information as it comes.
