Last year, Bandai Namco announced an upcoming game titled City Shrouded in Shadow for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. The game is a survival RPG, but was notable for its premise: you play as a civilian attempting to survive in the midst of a kaiju attack. Among the kaiju initially revealed for the game were Ultraman, Imitation Ultraman (the disguise of villain Alien Zarab), and Godzilla himself. Promotional scans also revealed the silhouette of what appeared to be Evangelion Unit-01.
News about the game has been quiet for some time, with developer Granzella only confirming the game's continued production, but today a new scan from Famitsu magazine has revealed some exciting new information from the game. The game now has a release date slated for this fall, and appears to now be a PS4 exclusive, but the more exciting information comes from its monster roster. The scan further confirms Godzilla, Eva Unit-01 and Ultraman's inclusion, but also reveals the presence of King Ghidorah, Alien Zarab, Shamshel from Neon Genesis Evangelion, and perhaps most surprisingly, Gamera and Legion. It appears the game is divided into stages, where two kaiju will appear and do battle, forcing the player to try to survive. The monsters from different franchises will not cross over and fight each other, but will battle monsters from the same franchise, for example: Godzilla will battle King Ghidorah, Ultraman will battle Alien Zarab, and Gamera will battle Legion.
While fans still won't be getting the much-anticipated Gamera vs. Godzilla matchup, it's nonetheless exciting to see Gamera making an official video game appearance, which happens to be in the same game as Godzilla and Ultraman.
Update: It turns out that the Angel featured in the game is actually Sachiel, the fourth Angel from Rebuild of Evangelion, rather than Shamshel, as previously reported. In addition, we now have some scans from Famitsu officially revealing Gamera and Legion, courtesy of Gormaru Island. Gamera seems to be bearing his design from Gamera 2: Attack of Legion, while the only Legion revealed so far are the Soldier Legion and the Legion Plant. Only time will tell if the Mother Legion will make an appearance as well.
