One year ago today, we here at Scified were chomping at the bit to see the new Godzilla movie by Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures. We were a couple weeks away from release and couldn't wait one more day! On May 16th, 2014 Godzilla (2014) came stomping into theaters and shattered Western audiences' previous notion of what "Godzilla" really was. The last Hollywood attempt in 1998 didn't leave the best taste in our mouths. But Gareth Edwards managed to bring the King back to Hollywood and give the King of all Monsters the respect he deserved.
May 16th, 2015 marks exactly 1 year since Godzilla hit theaters over here in North America. It also marks one year since a new era of Godzilla movies was born, with a sequel to Godzilla 2014 aiming for a 2018 release date, following next year's new Toho Godzilla movie which is slated for a summer 2016 release date. On top of that we've seen new Godzilla games crop up as well as a variety of new toys and merchandise. Godzilla 2014 breathed new life into a dormant franchise and we feel this is something worth celebrating!
Thanks to NECA Toys, Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures, we have a few prizes up for grabs, for members willing to design and create their own poster or wallpaper (or both), commemorating both Godzilla 2014's 1 year anniversary, as well as the beginning of a new generation of Godzilla films. The contest is open to anyone, anywhere and we welcome as many submissions as you would like. The contest will close on May 15th, so we have time to select a winner and deal out prizes.
