Earlier today SANSPO.com revealed some exciting new information regarding the latest Godzilla film and Gormaru Island was quick to deliver the news in English!
The impressive cast will star Hiroki Hasegawa (2011 TV Drama Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Kaseifu no Mita), popular star Yutaka Takenouchi (Multi-TV Drama Academy Award Winner & 2001 Japanese Academy Prize nominee for the hit Between Calm and Passion) and Satomi Ishihara (2003 Japanese Academy Prize for Best Newcomer in My Grandpa, 2014 Best Supporting Actress Nominee for Shitsuren Chocolatier). Hasegawa and Ishihara recently stared together as Shikishima (the Levi clone) and Hans, respectively, in co-director Shinji Higuchi's live action Attack on Titan.
Hasegawa will play the leading male, while Ishihara plays a heroic US agent plunged into the madness. Takenouchi takes up the mantle of a Japanese government official caught in the middle of an attacked modern day Japan. Takenouchi is confident in the production, claiming,
“...the 29th Godzilla film, like the 1954 film, will be one of the strongest Godzilla films within the series.”
Meanwhile, actress Satomi Ishihara claims she broke down in tears while reading the script. She feels the pressure is on being film's lead heroine.

The report also confirmed that Shin Gojira is the official title of the movie; roughly translating to True Godzilla or New Godzilla. Director Hideaki Anno clarifies that the title stands for multiple messages, one being an investment into Godzilla as a great icon. It's meant to declare the return of the true Godzilla—The fearful god represented in the 1954 original.
Shooting has been going on since August 10th (nearly a month before we assumed) and dramatic scenes will wrap in late October. November is rumored to be the month dedicated to shooting Godzilla's footage. So far no other kaiju are involved.
What do you think so far? Yet to be given an international English title, Shin Gojira will hit Japanese theaters Summer 2016! More as it comes.
Once again, massive thanks to Gormaru Island* for doing the heavy lifting.
