We knew Legendary and Apple TV were cooking up additional Monsterverse spin-off series and today we finally have some direction on what the next one will be! The next Monsterverse show will reportedly be a prequel to the ongoing Monarch: Legacy of Monsters series, which is already on its second season. The new spin-off will be set during the events of the Cold War and will see some overlap with Legacy of Monsters by having Wyatt Russell play the younger Lee Shaw, according to Nexus Point News:
Sources tell Nexus Point News that Apple TV has greenlit a prequel series to Monarch: Legacy of Monsters starring Wyatt Russell as the younger Lee Shaw, from Monarch. The series will be set during the Cold War and grapple with tensions between the United States and Russia in a world of monsters.
They go on to confirm Joby Harold will serve as the series’ showrunner and executive producer, along with his wife and producing partner Tory Tunnell via Safehouse Pictures, who also helped produce Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
Filming for the series is expected to begin next summer in Prague.
The Monsterverse continues to expand - sprouting branches across multiple timelines to coincide with the established canonical films. Whether or not this new series will contain any clues or callbacks to the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: Supernova movie remains to be seen. As new details surface, we'll keep you updated!
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 begins streaming on Apple TV starting February 27th, 2026 and will span 10 episodes ending May 1st, 2026. The series welcomes Prey star Amber Midthunder to the cast, along with returning star Kurt Russell!
