Looks great. Helicopters seem to suit more to Kong than Go planes.
I personally dislike the looks of Godzilla 2016 but it does look better than the late 60-70s godzilla. That's why i said begrudgingly.
Wait until the twitter votes are added in... Didn't expect this to be such a landslide, honestly.
I think you have a clear winner Gman xD.
Definitely Shin.
Gonna go with the others and say Shin, DAM- Gigan isn't a great look to me.
Shin Gojira.
"Begrudgingly"?
Shin-Gojira has my vote!
begrudgingly Shin-Godzilla
ShinGoji. Period.
No comparison, Shin-Godzilla.
CHRIS PICARD - How very neat! I wonder how much of a challenge the giant skull crawler will be for Kong? This is extremely compelling! :)
You know, I always thought that those Skullcrawlers' tails were a bit long. Now we know why: it's a combination of the two-legged lizard and giant snake from previous Kong films. Sneaky sneaky, Legendary!
I love this artwork!
Alright time for me to make a comment after so long (ShazoTheHedgehog). First off, hey Gman. Long time no hear. Second, I pick ShodaiGoji because its the iconic look and the eyes still give me the chills.
I'm going with the original for this one.
Chapter Two is up!
(I guess space titanium shouldn't be electrified while in water.)
Fine by me.
Gman2887- If that's the case then I'm going to change my vote to Godzilla 1954, It's ok to do that right?
^Correct. The head was modified after the damage it had received in the first movie (the jowl wobble) and the eyes were modified due to the added mechanism that allowed the eyeballs to shift.
I'm thinking, based on that photo, and the (2), that this is the slightly modified Mosugoji suit used in Ghidorah, etc. Is that correct? The head/eyes were modified after MvG. The Mothra Vs Godzilla version, which I love, had a meaner and more sinister look.
My #1 and #2 movies and design are 54 and 64(MvG). Hard for me to even say 1 and 2; more like 1 and 1A.
The reason they dumped money into it the footage is because it's not a "trailer", not really--Or not in the traditional sense. It's concept footage/a short film created first to commemorate Gamera's 50th Anniversary and second... Probably do exactly what you theorized: Gauge interest. (Although I'm not entirely sure why they would take it to NYCC to gauge the interest of American film goers, when they would be targeting Japanese audiences.)
Also we need to stop pretending Gamera is heavily in demand anywhere. Gamera has never been as popular as Godzilla even when the quality of Gamera films were blowing Godzilla movies out of the water back in the 1990s. Daiei needs to convince audiences why they want a new Gamera. Otherwise they're blowing money like they did with Gamera: The Brave.
Gman2887.. I think you're right about this. But I am certain there will be a demand for it in Japan.. since Shin Gojira was and is a success. It may be all about the money as pertaining to total production costs.. or the com con trailer may have a multipurpose function. First gauge the reaction.. second.. market strategy.. third.. have footage already.. so give it a green light.. I find it hard to believe they would dip that much cash into a trailer and then not follow through with the movie.. and it is a spectacular trailer at that. it would seem to be such a waste to do so. I could be wrong about all this. But that's my theory on it.
I don't think it's happening--At least not the concept presented at NYCC. It was a proof-of-concept trailer, if it weren't for the 50th Anniversary it would have been nothing more than that.
I have no doubt we'll get another Gamera film one day, but I have doubts it will be this one or even done by Ishii and his team. It seems we all jumped the gun assuming that a new Gamera film was greenlit. Until one is, this is merely a concept short for the brief 50th Anniversary celebration. One day...
Katsuhito Ishii (the director) gave the impression that the upcoming Gamera project had not yet been completely greenlit or secured funding from Kadokawa at the time, but it was still planned and he was attached to direct. The footage shown at NYCC was meant to serve as both a special video to commemorate Gamera's 50th anniversary and a sort of proof-of-concept trailer. I personally believe Kadokawa has been waiting to see how other projects (namely Shin Godzilla) performed at the box office, because that will heavily influence how much funding will be allotted to the next Gamera film. Gamera is nowhere near as bankable as Godzilla, and so Kadokawa is probably just ensuring that the film would be profitable in the current box office climate.
Hey Gman2887 can you send me a link, if possible at anytime. Because I'm really interested into watching the series.
I need to rewatch this thing. So much fun.
DanZilla93 if it's okay to send me that link, if possible. Please
I'm going to have to go with Godzilla 1964
Shodaigojj, he is the original king--an iconic unmistakable design.
I think Monster Zero got knocked out in the first round in the movie tournament too, so all random draws sometimes screw over some good and bad things since on the other side of the spectrum I think Godzilla vs Megalon got to round two by some fluke draw.
These two suits could realistically made the finals depending on the fan group you ask though, super unlucky one has to go.
^Yeah I was a little weary of that, but didn't want to impede on the auto-randomizing of the bracket. It is what it is without bias mucking it up.
Wow first match first round and it's 2 super iconic looks. Sad one of them has to go.
I vote Shodaigoji, it's the original.
Godzilla 1964 looks more reptilian which I like
"he may have been "losing" the fight, but he still did win."
Thanks to Ford.
"Whereas, Shin was in his perfect form"
Who ever said that was Godzilla's perfect form? It was explained he could continue to evolve in to whatever it's body deemed was the next best evolutionary form on the planet--Hence why it was evolving in to humanoids at the end.
Either way, neither are top tier Godzillas. Arguing in circles about 2014's chances against 2016 admittedly makes more sense then stacking them against powerhouses in the Heisei and select Millennium movies. Neither would make it.
I'm waiting for the next Legendary Godzilla to be honest, but in regards of the Showa Era Godzilla.... Oh my god that moment when Godzilla grabbed his own tail and just atom breath his way in the air to fly was just ridiculous!
At the end of the day, both have their strengths and weaknesses over previous Toho kaiju, albeit due to Shin Godzilla's glass cannon status compared to even Showa iterations, many of us rank him lower even when compared to the true American version's less ridiculous presentation.
