ChrisGodzilla Minus Zero NewsDeveloping: Godzilla 2 Begins Shooting this Year?

Fair enough Gman, I can't think of any other giant lizard sequel movies that are coming out in the next 2 years that would likely be filming haha could very well be King of Monsters!

^No, the studio isn't quite finished yet and Pacific Rim 2 isn't anywhere to be found on Atlanta's filming schedules. I actually expect Pacific Rim 2 to be wrapped before or by March.

^I understand the basic story of SNK. I love the Attack on Titan Anime and Manga. As long as the Titan fights make up for any faults in the plots. If I don't need to see Frankenstein first, then I will watch War of the Gargantuas as soon as possible. Thank you for answering my questions.

It's surprising but won't discount it yet, though. Is it possible Pacific Rim 2 could be filming there?

I can't wait to see these two heavyweights square off. They need to make Kong a little taller & a lot quicker than Godzilla to even it up.

I keep saying it. It's a dream. But my God if they God the rights to Gamera too. It would be amazing.

The Skullcrawlers have chameleon tongues. That's an interesting feature. I guess when you only have two legs, you need some other way to help you catch fast moving prey.

I wonder if there will be some non Godzilla/ King Kong monsters will appear in these movies. Like the beast from 20.000 fathoms.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!  I love it!  I am so pumped for this universe to continue, its the one Cinematic Universe I've always wanted, but never thought possible in Hollywood.  What a time to be alive, my friends.

By the way, I have to thank you for posting this, Chris!  After I saw this, I left work and went straight to Walmart to see if, by some miracle, they had any Kong stuff out on shelves yet.

And OH BOY YES!  YES THEY DID!

I got the big Kong, and the three Creature Encounter packs that include monsters!  I'm not chomping at the bit to get the boat and helicopter, but in one night (and for a whopping 50% OFF MSRP!!!!), I got figures of Kong, a Skull Crawler, the Giant Spider, and the Pteradactylus!  I'm so happy, its like 2014 all over again!

Now, if they would only make a bigger Skull Crawler, the Log Bug Guy, the Giant Octopus, and the Giant Water Buffalo, I'd be in business!

Haha very true Gman, but yeah I thought Goodman says "Dragon" as well. To "track a Dragon". Could be Godzilla, or could be Ghidorah, who knows... Loving the references to Godzilla though!

I mean... Batman v Superman's marketing helped propel it to $870 million+ world wide... If Kong makes that much (doubt it) we'd be in beautiful shape.

He says "you came here looking for a tracker." not dragon. Show us the whole movie in the tv spots/trailers why don't ya? That worked well for Batman vs Superman right? oh wait.....

^^ Well, of course I'm only throwing out completely unbased speculation, I'm simply saying "why not?". It would create a reasonable lore. (how many giant spiders can honestly exist, and do we really think there are more than a couple, especially on Skull Island, seeing as how the Skullcrawlers and Kong are the top of the food chain. Something that big has to be pretty significant.) I just think it would be an unobtrusive way of linking Godzilla and Kong into the same universe without having everyone constantly talking about the big G or without him violently crashing into the movie. And it certainly appears big enough, and a reasonable design, to be Kumonga, even if they don't explicitly state it. In the current state of the Monsterverse, I don't expect monsters like Kumonga to be anything more than a cameo or minor villain.

And yes, the fight scenes are worth it. :) In a fun movie with a cool story, great visuals, and an intense final mission, the fights are among the best parts of the film.  Just imagine two Gargantua-esque Kaiju beating the heck out of each other in the ruins of a crumbling town, while humans zip past them using cables, all in an effort to help the good Titan carry an unexploded warhead up the side of a wall, only to have a Titan the size of your average mountain trying to stop him, and you've got a pretty good picture of how awesome the movie is.  Its pure kaiju/pulp action.  Definitely worth a watch!

^Amazon is your friend, buddy!

War of the Gargantuas, 8 bucks on Amazon, plus it comes with Rodan and the incredible documentary Bringing Godzilla Down to Size!

Or, you can rent it for 3 bucks.

Here's Frankenstein, although seeing it first isn't necessary, as they barely have anything to do with each other in terms of story.  But damn, is it ever a great film.

"You came here looking for a dragon..."

Was John Goodman trying to track Godzilla?!  Maybe I'm nuts, but...

Anyway, since this is how my brain works, its worth taking a look at the increasing number of monsters in this movie.  The list is getting pretty long!  So far, we have:

Kong (natch...)

The Skull Crawlers (various sizes, some small, some Kaiju-sized)

The Giant Spider(s)

A Giant Octopus

A Giant Water Buffalo

That Weird Bug Thing in the Log (from the first trailer)

A Swarm of Pterosaur/Bat Creatures (the toy is dubbed "Pterodactylus")

So yeah... lots of creatures.  You have no idea how happy this makes me.

Is it March yet?

^If it spits webs from it's mouth, then it is a relative to Kumonga. Until then, it should be considered your typical giant spider monster that one would expect to find on Skull Island. I would love to see Kumonga in a new movie (so long as they don't design it like a tarantula. I hate those things), but we can only speculate at the possibility the pit spider is related to Kumonga. However, it still seems like wild speculation.

I cannot wait to see Kong in action. All those action sequences have me pumped up.

Now, maybe it's just me, but one of the most interesting parts about the trailers is the giant spider thing. The main reason this interests me, aside from the obvious references to the "lost" spider pit scene, is the potential relations to Kumonga. I would love it if that was one of the connections to Godzilla, as well as another piece pulling everything together. Everyone is speculating towards a Godzilla, Rodan, or Biollante appearance of some sort, but I feel like Kumonga would be a better fit to tie into, seeing as how everything on the island is bigger, who better than Kumonga? In addition, the Oodako reference/appearance is totally awesome, and of course, the giant Skullcrawler.

Wow, those are some excellent TV spots. Not afraid to hold back on showing us some new exciting footage. And there's little doubt in my mind that the octopus thing is meant to be a nod to Oodako. The brief shots of Kong taking on the giant Skullcrawler also were amazing.

I'm also intrigued about where the story is going. It's starting to make sense how Kong seemed to be the antagonist in the teaser trailer, only for the first official trailer and all subsequent marketing to make it clear he is meant to be a hero. A few characters will be sympathizing with and helping Kong, while others will be trying to kill him. It could make for an interesting dynamic among the human cast, and give Kong the connection to humanity that makes him unique.

And of course, it's nice to see a little continuity nod to Godzilla. I like how Legendary is trying to build this universe organically. There are subtle continuity connections between this movie and Godzilla so far that the attentive viewer is sure to notice, but nothing blatantly trying to shove the cinematic universe down the audience's throats. It reassures me that Legendary is worried about making Kong: Skull Island a solid standalone film before anything else.

Can't wait for this movie.

Jesus H. Christ. I'm wondering how many people skipped the part he's still aboard as a producer in this article. He's only stepped down. He hasn't left the business.

@Gman2887 and @Chris, I'm in that same boat. I'm really concerned with Kong skull island. Too many people are saying "I'm not seeing it because Kong doesn't look like the 2005 version" or, "it's not a sequel to the 2005 film."

If Kong skull island fails, that's when we all can start to begin heavier grief. And if for some odd reason legendary ends up cancelling the other films, then we have to thank 2014 for bringing Godzilla back. It's not my favorite film, but it will definitely deserve credit for doing justice to the character and reviving the franchise.

zillafan98, I blame Gareth Edwards and Max Borenstein for the awful parts of Godzilla '14 more than anything else. There was a lot to that film I thought was great, though. Since Tull is staying on to produce Godzilla 2 and G vs Kong, hopefully Shields and Dougherty will adhere to his vision better than Edwards and Borenstein did.

The King of the MonstersKong: Skull IslandNew Kong: Skull Island banners unveiled!

Even though the filmmakers are supposedly trying to avoid the "Beauty and the Beast" storyline, the first banner as well as the trailer seem to indicate that Kong will at least have some sort of bond with Brie Larsen's character in the film. Given that Kong having some sort of attraction or bond with a human woman has been a trait he's exhibited in every single film he's appeared in so far, it makes sense.

Don't think this means the end to anything yet, it just means a lot gets heaped on Kong's shoulders. If it happens to fail that will probably have a bigger effect on the upcoming movies than before.
