@Gman2887 Correct, which means that hopefully them starting to film in March is true. I honestly loved following the 2014 movie while it was being filmed so I can't wait to do the same for this.

Throwing money at a picture never seems to guarantee anything. The key here, if the previous report about the movie shooting this year is on point, is time. As long as they take their time and have ample amount of it to fine tune everything in post and get desirable re-shoots along the way, it should turn out okay.

@ Godzilla 2014 Himself.. yeah I know.. but will they spend the money to make the movie spectacular or will we get just bits and pieces of multiple kaiju ?

Wraith,
Funimation will be distributing Shin Godzilla to DVD and Blu-ray in North America and, supposedly, supplying their own dub along with the original Japanese language track. Other than that there has been no announcement on the release date.

Toho will want to release it in Japan first and then it will likely be released in America some months later. For a time table worth looking at:

Attack on Titan Part 1 was released in Japanese theaters August 1st, 2015. It was released in American theaters on September 30th, 2015. It was released on DVD/Blu-ray in Japan on February 16th, 2016 and in America on October 4th, 2016.

The sequel, Attack on Titan: At World's End, was released in Japanese theaters September 19th, 2016. It hit American theaters October 20th, 2016. It was released on DVD/Blu-ray March 23rd, 2016 in Japan and December 6th, 2016 in America.

In both instances, Toho had Funimation hold off on releasing the movies to home video roughly 8 months after they were put on DVD/Blu-ray in Japan--Or roughly a year after their American theatrical release.

This is fairly consistent with Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. and Godzilla: Final Wars, both of which were released by Sony on DVD roughly 8 months after they hit DVD shelves in Japan.

So my best guess would be Shin Godzilla for Q4 of this year--Likely December.

@RR44 Actually it was confirmed a while back that Godzilla King of the Monsters will have Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.

something tells me that this 2nd movie is gonna be waaay better than the first..(I saw Krampus.. cool movie) I think there will be room for at least 3 more monsters in the sequel... and Ghidorah will be in the third film as Godzilla and Kong team up against him.. kinda like a Batman V Superman approach. Look how many monster reveals there are in the Kong trailers.. I count at least 4.

I definitely feel like 1-7 are correct, though I think 2000 (the first G movie I watched) should be below Biollante, and my bottom 10 are also correct, but G14 isn't one of my top ten (top 12, though), and several Showa Era movies are lower on the list than I think they ought to be, because the Showa Era was what I watched the most when I was younger. I think Vs Mechagodzilla, Ghidrah, and Hedorah should be higher up.

This makes me extremely happy as I was worried for a while. I didn't think the monsterverse was going to get scrapped but I was worried about the director. I honestly can't wait for the sequel and have been excited since leaving the theater after watching G14.

@The King of the Monsters

Both Krampus and Trick R Treat are amazing movies, which is why I'm very excited Michael is directing Godzilla King of the Monsters. I also agree that this movie has probably been in production for a while and Legendary just wanted to keep it a secret to surprise people. All in all I just hope that we get a poster or teaser this year for it.

This really gives me the impression that King of Monsters is a bit further into production than we had been previously led to believe. The reports of the film shooting in Atlanta this year seem a lot more realistic now. I'm cautiously optimistic about Dougherty, I've never seen Krampus or Trick 'r Treat, but have heard good things about both. I immensely enjoyed X2 and Apocalypse, which he also wrote for, and unlike a lot of people I also liked Superman Returns. The fact that Dougherty is also a Godzilla fan and has had success as both a writer and director, plus that he has evidently impressed Legendary with his work on the film so far, make me more optimistic for the film's future than I have been in a while.

With Tull's stepping down, this news is probably especially welcome now.

Man, as much as I love the original, I can't vote for it just because it's the original.

I grew up watching the Heisei era, and Vs Destroroyah is my all time favorite, so DesuGoji.

They're pretty even for me as suits I really like, but not at the top of my list.

I'll just throw to vote to Desugoji, since shodai is likely to win anyway.

On another note, most places inventory of Destroy All Monsters and Vs Megalon are running a little low right now, and seem to be in stock on a very random basis. Finding them for under $30 is a bit difficult, so grab them now if you see them.

I guess we'll find out soon if filming starts in March Legendary has like a month to start announcing roles for the film, maybe they're waiting till closer to Kong to hype that up along with G2.

G. H. (Gman)Godzilla Minus Zero NewsDeveloping: Godzilla 2 Begins Shooting this Year?

^I do wonder... Is production shooting in a month? Or is it simply moving there in a month? The facility isn't quite finished and when Godzilla 2's production team gets there they'll have to build sets, which normally takes a few months. That would fit a more realistic time table of shooting in the summer or later in the year.

And yet again, spit-balling.

Wow that would be a huge jump if we go from no cast or director to shooting in a little over a month.

^Do you think they could be filming G2 and GvsK simultaneously ala Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit? Seeing as how they are only 14 months apart?

Reply
G. H. (Gman)Godzilla Minus Zero NewsDeveloping: Godzilla 2 Begins Shooting this Year?

^I'm actually thinking the local report is misinformed and it's starting later in the year. I think it would make more sense to start shooting during the end of the year and spend all of next year in post-production.

On the other hand--They might be doing this to get a headstart on Godzilla vs. Kong... All of this is merely speculation though. The report is everything we have to go on.

It makes sense to start this year actually. I didn't think it would be so soon (march), I was thinking maybe summer.
