I can't wait to see it.
I fully expect to start seeing more marketing for this, especially around the football conference championships this weekend as well as the Super Bowl. They do need to let the general audience know this is coming.
Lets remember that Thomas here is also to blame for the production of Godzilla.
@RR44
"top image reminds me of Peter Jackson's version. Could there be more than one ape ?"
First of all, it's not the "Peter Jackson" version, it's the TRADITIONAL version, King Kong isn't complete without the "Beauty & The Beast" element, it's pretty much a tradition at this point. Toho's Kong was something entirely different, but they still incorporated those elements in, don't see why Legendary can't do the same.
Second, no, there's no more than "one ape", Kong, in every version, has always been written as the last of his kind, this isn't any different.
Just saying.
Like I said I WANT to be wrong, unlike some people on "the other site."
I was raised in a very religious household. We weren't allowed to was swearing or sex but we could watch all the violence we wanted. I remembered laying in the floor watching Son of Godzilla on those old giant tvs. I think it used to come on TBS back in the day.
Recently I have been searching for nostalgia and I remembered how much I used to love GZ. He is a nice clean addiction to have.
People seem to always immediately jump to the worst possible conclusion every time there is any news about Legendary Pictures' upcoming Godzilla films. While Tull stepping down does legitimately raise some uncertainty regarding Godzilla: King of Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong, it's way too early to start jumping to "all the future Godzilla films are cancelled" and "Godzilla 2014 was a failure and Godzilla is dead" just because the main man who built this "Monsterverse" is no longer Legendary's CEO.
All we've seen so far is one movie, a movie which despite a fair deal of controversy among fans and filmgoers was ultimately a critical and financial success. General consensus is that so far Kong: Skull Island looks promising, and it's less than two months away. The future of the Monsterverse will largely rely on how Skull Island does, and I plan to remain optimistic and look forward to seeing the movie. Plus, I think Legendary has invested too much into the Godzilla and Kong properties to just immediately abandon their proposed cinematic universe.
My point is, this is no cause for panic. Perhaps some anxiety and uncertainty, but certainly not accepting the worst-case scenario immediately.
What I'm curious about is what exactly Wanda found undesirable with Tull's management of Pacific Rim 2.
I also think Godzilla will continue to press on. As Gman stated, Godzilla sold very well overseas, as did Pacific Rim. I do not see them pulling the plug on their monster-verse, it's too profitable.
However like Gman, I am a tad concerned for Skull Island's turnout. I expected the marketing for that film to have been significantly more involved leading into 2017. A lot of people I speak to don't even know there is another Kong movie coming out... in 2 months. With Godzilla, everyone knew about it.
The helicopter could always be in the background.
-_- .. here we go again. Bottom image is cool.. top image reminds me of Peter Jackson's version. Could there be more than one ape ?
Hahaha Yeah, same with Godzilla's posters. The size / scale is obviously not accurate.
Gman2886- I didn't even notice that until you pointed it out.
Your jumping to another dimension of conclusions, jiger9899.
Waiting for the casually dumb to complain about the size discrepancy between the two images...
I only recently found out because I had been following this thread, trying to fill in my collection (only 3 short of what is still in print) and I sadly did not pick up Godzilla vs Biollante until it was already out of print, but I was also fortunate to get an excellent condition used copy. I was pretty bummed, since I particularly liked Biollante.
I want to be wrong, but they waited for that hack Edwards to finish star wars and they waited too long. No one cares about Godzilla anymore.
Well let's hope it does. There is always a possibility that "Godzilla: King of Monsters" will happen.
I never saw War of the Gargantuas. I want too but I can't find it. And I want to see Frankenstein Conquers the World first because the Gargantuas supposedly spawn from the Frankenstein monster. I'm more interested in this Rampage movie. Is there an article or a trailer somewhere on Scified? I do agree that an American version could work. Though I must ask, are the fight scenes in the second live action SNK (Shingeki no Kyojin/Attack on Titan) movie worth it? When I was first getting into Godzilla (around the age of 5), I used to skip to and only watch the monster fights. I never cared for the plot. As I grew older, I started to watch the whole films but it was always the giant monsters using a city like a wrestling ring that kept me through any monster movie, regardless of how good or bad the plot is. If the Titan fights are good, then I can give it a shot.
I think that largely will depend on how well Skull Island performs--Which I'm far more concerned about.
1) IP means "intellectual property".
2) You should check out the second Attack on Titan film, its pretty good! Especially if you enjoy good old fashioned kaiju brawl movies like War of the Gargantuas! I really enjoyed both of the movies, and I've always felt that, if done well, an American adaptation could be good as well! The story is already very multinational (with Mikasa being the only Japanese character in a manga/show populated by European characters). It could definitely work, and be very scary.
3) Rampage is a new giant monster film coming out on April 20th, 2018. It is an adaptation of the video game franchise of the same name that features a giant lizard, gorilla, and werewolf destroying cities. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson will star. Monsterpocolypse is still in development, but is based off the tabletop game of the same name, which tells the story of various factions of giant monsters and giant robots facing off all over the world, with apocalyptic consequences. There is no release date yet.
Godzilla vs Kong isn't happening now. Mark my words.
1. What does "IP" mean?
2. I'm not entirely sure how to respond to this. For one thing, the last two live action films weren't that great. They weren't terrible, but they could have been better (I can only say this in confidence about the first one, I haven't seen the second one.). The only part I was really compelled by was when Eren turned into a Titan during the first movie and slaughtered the other Titans, causing the surviving ones to slowly back away while muttering the word "nope" repeatedly. (They didn't actually say anything but if you look at them, its basically what is happening). However, American monster movies have been doing very well. The 2014 Godzilla was a major improvement to the 1998 version (major improvement is an understatement but let's move on shall we?). If done right, an American Attack on Titan could be very well. However, there is the known fact that anime made into live action films in America tend to suck (Dragon Ball Evolution and The Last Airbender (that wasn't even an anime)). So, if it happens, this could go either way.
3. What are Rampage and Monsterpoloypse?
Hope he doesn't screw up the Godzilla VS Kong. I've been waiting too long for a remake.
On a side note a wish they reached out & got the rights to Gamera too
I still have yet to see this. Can't wait
For the past year I tried not to be negative about this "universe." We had the director leave, we had the movie pushed back 9 months, and now the guy who pushed for all of this to happen is resigning. The Godzilla sequels will not happen. The hard truth is that people don't really want these movies and on top of that Gareth Edwards massacred Godzilla 2014; Cranston dying 40 minutes in, the CONSTANT cutaways, these things turned people off and it's why G14 had a great opening weekend and nothing more.
It's concerning, but I don't think this is as big of a blow as it sounds. Movies like Godzilla and Pacific Rim sell in China. For a conglomerate on that side of the pond to have access to a Hollywood production company that makes those kinds of movies is a dream. I mean, what are they going to produce otherwise? They're overlords with their palms around well established franchises that sold well in their country. It's not like Legendary has the rights to anything else they really want. Other than Pokemon I guess...
Yes, I just never got around to posting it. The Millennium covers are probably half finished. Those have been much tougher to nail over the year.
This "monsterverse" will never happen now.
Wow! He's the one who really got the ball rolling on these movies. That's too bad. Hopefully this doesn't affect anything coming after Kong and PR2, but I guess we'll see, although I'm sure if they make money...
LOL The Godzilla sequels aren't happening now; set your watch for the cancellation announcement.
Wow a Godzilla movie getting nominated for best picture, what a day to be alive.
I know they secured the rights to several other Kaiju monsters. Granted Gamera is owned by another job , but I wish they got the rights. Can you image Godzilla, Gamera & Kong all battling for the title "King of Monsters"
Or they could be male worker Drones & the female is quite a bit larger. Since this part of the Godzilla universe & they are all Kaiju monsters that feed off Radiation. They may have fed off the Kongs while they were hibernating, like parasites much like the mutos we see in Godzilla. Once Kong defeats the skull crawlers , he will go into Hibernation and absorb radiation & grow to the size of Godzilla, for their battle.
I was a little surprised just how beloved the '84 suit is. A lot of fans love it for nostalgia and the angry somnambulist look it has going on.
Definitely DesuGoji.
Desugoji, idk how 84 made it to semis
I vote for 84 as a protest vote against Desu who beat 2014.....Yes...
