That's a good one. Some post-Godzilla aftermath media.

Though I definitely think that the general Monsterverse style of records and footage from history pertaining to the time periods of the different elements related to the monsters at hand should be preserved. For example, maybe some older footage about the discussion of the ice age, to hammer in the point about King Ghidorah being a lemon popsicle at the moment.

same here. After watching that movie I couldn't wait to hear news of a sequel! After the last frame of that movie I felt like there needed to be answers in a sequel. Glad I was able to watch a legit Toho Godzilla movie in theaters!

I think the opening should include a way of Monarch coming out of darkness. Maybe a couple of newsclips and headlines of Monarch becoming public.

I knew about Godzilla for my entire life but never got into it until the 2014 trailers started coming out. I thought it looked like a good movie ended up doing a bit of research on Godzilla. I quickly found out about the movies and other monsters and watched some of the older movies.

Now I've seen 18 of the movies and have a small MonsterArts collection.

LOL! Just watched it again and the riffage is great! In one scene, Yongari just seems to be clumsy and the team refers to him as the "Mr. Magoo of monsters".

I was a kid in the 70s. I was way into dinosaurs and watched anything with dinosaurs in them. There was a show called Creature Feature back then- every Saturday- and each episode showed a movie like Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein etc. I saw Godzilla on that show. I was pretty young so I kind of tuned out of the plot and dialogue and perked up when Godzilla appeared and went berserk or fought the several weird and cool opponents. I was a bit young to understand the concept of what he represented.  I always genuinely felt bad when he got knocked down or seemed to lose a fight. He was probably my first favorite anti hero before I even knew what that concept was.

TheGMan123Godzilla ForumGodzilla vs Kong. Why I root for Godzilla

It even still works for the Monsterverse as it is right now.

Godzilla only came about in the modern day because Humanity messed with the fabric of reality itself, the atom, creating only death and destruction. This sin has brought forth beasts of terrible power that we cannot ever hope to defeat.

Godzilla is not only a force to combat these beings, but also a warning that our very existence is a fragile thing, and that we should take care to not overstep our boundaries lest we incur His Wrath as well.

riggzamortis86Godzilla ForumGodzilla vs Kong. Why I root for Godzilla

That makes sense. I get where you are coming from.

Godzilla to me represents injustice in the world. Godzilla was an anti-nuclear/anti-war message to the world. You could interpret that as a balance theme. But to me it was the directors and producers of the Godzilla films message to all out there that war and nuclear exchange creates monsters both literally in reality and in there sci-fi films. These monsters represent us (people). In these movies we created these monsters(Godzilla and rodan and such). We brought out the ugly in all of us and its in a form of giant unstoppable monsters. Punishing us for letting these atrocities take lives and ruin countries.

Godzilla is a warning, a metaphor for all the horrible things that happened around the A-bomb and WWII. To never let that happen again. Over the decades his message changes, what he means altered, and other directors use him to instill other deep messages, but I feel like that is what he is to me.

Now why I root for him? He is this messenger of pain and sorrow. There is a sadness to this beast of atomic intervention. He is a byproduct of our negligence. He represents all the pain and anguish of an entire country that has been shaken down to its foundation and changed an entire worlds identity. I root for him because he needs to be the message that wins in this fight.

Kong doesn't have that in his being. A fantastic beast yes, a primal force yes, but Kong isn't angry because of human war or nuclear exchange. He doesn't represent an entire countries woes and devastation. He is just a massive beast. No rhyme or reason for his being so massive other than mystery and suspending your disbelief.

I want Godzilla to win not just because I think he is awesome or he is my favorite of the two. But because Godzilla brings humanity's self awareness to light. He brings up uncomfortable issues that we as a species must never forget happened. He must be a reminder that we should never let those atrocities ever happen again. If Kong wins, I feel like brute force and primal instincts justify anything. The message will be replaced with whomever is more brutal and angry wins(which makes sense to sell tickets I know). But I feel the real reason and message Godzilla brings will be overlooked.

sorry I rant. but that's why im rooting. no matter who wins this time around they better just make the movie great!

^even though I mostly agree with what was said. I think there is plenty of room for another Godzilla film at least. We know Godzilla has no interest in what mankind has been doing for thousands of years. So far we see Godzilla as a hero, a monster that can fight other monsters. In Godzilla 2014 we see Godzilla the hero fighting off the male and female MUTO's and saving the world. So far in G:KOTM I see a similar role for all 3 monsters. Godzilla will still be a hero by days end I think. GvK? This role comes down to who wins and is seen as the bigger hero. Perhaps Godzilla is outnumbered with both Kong and Human intervention. Whether it be the Oxygen Destroyer or some kind of super weapon to combat Godzilla, he might see us as the next threat. Changing his role from hero to villain.

The 4th Godzilla movie could change Godzilla's whole dynamic. "Godzilla 3" could show signs of Godzilla on the attack and we humans must find a way to stop him. That could be "Godzilla 3" worth making. Godzilla's complete character arch from hero to villian. I could see 2 more Godzilla films around that.

As for Kong, I totally agree. If I was in charge Kong should fight aliens. Just saying. He hasn't fought aliens as of yet. He fought dinosaurs, Godzilla, a giant robot of himself, snakes, octopus's, Skull Crawlers, his son fought a bear, humans in planse or helicopters or trains. Yup, aliens sounds fun. Advanced beings vs. Primal God?Sounds great to me.

riggzamortis86Godzilla ForumHow hostile will Rodan and Mothra be to humans?

The way I see it each monster has its role. Godzilla "The Alpha Predator", he seeks and destroys anything that creates this "imbalance" to the nature of things. How long before man becomes the next imbalance.

Mothra "The Deity", Im assuming she is treated like a "God" not because she is a danger to her disciples but to whatever tries to harm her or her people. So shes like super nice to anyone who is peaceful to her.

We need Rodan to be this Rogue monster, he is virtually untouchable. Yes Mothra can fly, but Rodan can fly at speeds of mach one, he doesn't need to hit his opponent or a building to destroy it. So he can do whatever he pleases and just flyaway when outmatched. His place in this band of giants needs to balance the story arch to be interesting. Maybe I like the movie Ghidorah, The 3 Headed Monster so much is because these 3 monsters put aside their differences and fought a bigger threat to the planet. Rodan was this badass! Gave Godzilla a run for his money in that movie. Rodan proved to be a force to be reasoned with. But in that movie we saw into the personalities of each monster. Rodan simply said he doesn't care about mankind and if threatened he would just fly away, showing his rogue attitude towards this plight. Hell even in Destroy All Monsters, after King Ghidorah's defeat we see Rodan flying away immediately after the fight, only to be thwarted by The Kilaaks "Fire Monster". Rodan was alone and flying away. Showing what he felt about joining forces with other monsters. I know it shows Rodan at the ending at the new Monsterland along with all the other monsters, but he wants to be high up in the mountains, away from other kaiju. He likes being alone.

Godzilla and Mothra have a stake in this fight. They both seem to have an agenda to fight Ghidorah for one reason or another. Rodan doesn't give a crap what happens. As long as he survives.

That's my take based on what I understand about Toho Rodan. But Legendary has all the space for whatever Rodan's role will be in this movie.

I agree with these guys ^^ I definitely see Rodan being more of a rogue, destroying anything he sees as a threat, including humans. Definitely the most reluctant to team up, too. Mothra would probably only attack when threatened, but I do hope she's less of the benevolent creature she's portrayed as in the Toho films.

While I do think the Monsterverse does have potential, I'm sure not sure about pretty much - The Entire of Phase 2, and Varan. I really don't think you could find stories that are worthwhile for solo Rodan, Mothra and Varan movies, and I doubt they would bring in big box office profits. Personally, I don't see how you could have another 2 Kong movies, another 2 Godzilla movies, and pretty much 2 Major "Crossover" films such as Monster Island. If you look at the MCU movies, going for 2-3 solo movies can be a risk.

Iron Man 2 nearly bombed, The Winter Soldier was good, but where were the other Avengers? Thor: The Dark World also nearly bombed. Iron Man 3 was really a risk, and Civil War was basically Avengers 3.

So TBH, I don't really see having 2 Kong and 2 Godzilla sequels worth making, because unless Godzilla 3 and Kong Returns are like prequel films, it would be hard to make more of them without the same generic formula being used everytime (New kaiju, Earth has to be defended). I'd pretty much have Phase 3 (besides Varan) simply be Phase 2.

I think Rodan is going to want to destroy any humans or anything smaller than he is like ships, planes and nearby animals. He is a predatory animal, I wont be surprised if he eats people. But when it comes down to Godzilla or Mothra, he might understand that they are not the enemy.

Mothra in the toho universe never wanted to hurt anyone but attacked when threatened. But I hope she is hostile a little bit in this movie. I would love to see Mothra go on the attack for once.

Godzillafansince91Godzilla 2014 ForumNot gonna lie. I was disappointed in the movie

Hello everyone. This is my first post, and I know I'm about three years too late, but I've only just found this site today.... Anyway, I would like to give my own review on this movie, hopefully I don't make too many people mad for essentially necro-posting.

Anyway, I watched this movie when it came out in theaters, I was hyped as hell as I've been a big Godzilla fan since I was about 10 years old when I saw the original Godzilla King of the Monsters on Scifi. From there it just snowballed I've seen just about all of the original movies from Showa to the Millennium series save for one, and that's only because I haven't been able to find it.

Now when I went into this movie as I said before I was hyped as hell. What little they showed of Godzilla in the trailers confirmed that this creature at least looked like Godzilla, it had the roar, and the whole nine yards.

When I watched the first half of it, I instantly was hooked, Bryan Cranston gave an amazing performance, and I thought they were going to follow him all the way on that train. (Imagine my disappointment) Now mind you I have never watched an episode of breaking bad a day in my life so when I saw Cranston  I thought he was just one amazing actor. And I was hooked through the whole first half of the movie as it followed his character from the death of the wife to the reveal of the Muto. I was less enthralled with the guy that played Kick-Ass' performance, and honestly felt him to be really boring, but I digress.

As the movie progressed, the build up was perfect they gave you little snips, and nods to Godzilla. When it got to the reveal it was perfect, you watch him come out of the ocean, you don't quiet see him a first, then you get little more bites, and glimpses as he strolls down the road towards the muto on the Hawaiian island.

Then you get the big reveal with that powerful roar, and then we get to the part that made me almost walk out of the damn theater. Now as I said I have watched nearly all of the Godzilla movies, and they always have this basic formula. Dividing the movie into sections the first section is always the boring human plot starts and expositions, then you get the build up to what you'd call round one of two for the monster fights. Then when the monsters are both revealed you get a small scuffle between the two which either ends in a draw, or with one, or the other getting beaten to the point they need to make a tactical retreat. Then you get the third section which is usually where the human plot points and story arcs get wrapped up, for the most part.

And then you get the big finale which is just the two monsters bashing heads. Godzilla going all out to fight off the big bad, or in the case of when Mothra was part of the story, getting his ass kicked. Then any remaining human elements were wrapped up, and Godzilla swims off into the sea.

THIS DID NOT HAPPEN THERE!

Instead it cut away from what should've been a great first fight, that could have helped establish a few things. It also could've made the human element a bit more interesting, we'd get a first round fight with Godzilla facing the male muto, maybe firing off a round of his atomic breath, which would have then been analyzed by the humans for any potential weaknesses between the two. We fans of the classics would've gotten a good first round fight, and the rest could've gotten something to help immerse them into the human element a bit more.

Instead what we got was a bunch of cut-a-ways throughout the entire damn movie. To me it felt like the whole damn thing was just one big teaser trailer. The human element after Cranston's character was killed was just boring as shit, which to be fair most of the time was always boring in Godzilla movies save for Final Wars. (In my opinion!)

As many people commented on here, Godzilla never felt like the badass force of nature that the movie kept trying to hype up for him to be. Instead as many pointed out here and I agree he just seemed like the gentle giant defender. As if Gareth had taken cues from the HannaBarbara Godzilla cartoon series and mashed them in.

And then came the second disappointment for me with this movie. When we finally do get to see the damn monsters duke it out, we only get to see 25% of the actual fight, because the movie seems to think that we give a shit about their plot involving a nuclear bomb, especially after it had already been established that the monsters feed on high levels of nuclear energy to survive. Which I highly doubt any military would be so dense as to think "These guys feed on nuclear energy, why, we'll just use their food source as a way to kill them by...over feeding them?"  This plot was seriously ill conceived and seriously lacking in any intelligent thought.

And then we come to the third disappointment and the second thing that almost caused me to walk out of the theater. (Truth be told had I not taken my younger brother along I most likely would have walked out after they cut away from the first fight.) And this was the atomic breath, the build up was once again beautiful, his tail glows the power surges up his dorsal fins. A low humming noise is heard as the beam charges, you watch him hold his head back as if he were taking in a breath and you expect to see this big explosion of energy...instead you see a blue wisp of smoke.... That thing looked weak as fuck, instead of it being this big powerful beam of energy that blasts the Muto 1,000 miles away it looks like it causes it some mild friggen irritation. As if Godzilla were just giving it a first degree burn like putting a lizard's heat rock on someone's bare skin. It's hot, mildly annoying, but doesn't do any real damage apart from some minimal discomfort.

The fight itself was to the film's credit, with the exception of the cut-a-ways to the human plot, wasn't too bad over all, it actually felt like a Godzilla flick, mind you this was like the early Showa Godzilla where it didn't seem as if he was as matured a fighter as he became in the later Godzilla movies. So I'm not sure if that's what Edwards was going for, or what, but it still didn't seem to have the same oomf as even the later Showa series, never mind the Heisa, and Millennium series.

Finally we got to the movies, to me, only saving grace. The kiss of death scene. That was the only thing that was even remotely cool about this movie watching Godzilla rip the monster's jaws apart and just dumping its atomic wisp into the kaiju's throat. But it would've been so much cooler if they would've beefed up the damn beam to the status of GMK, or Final Wars.

In short the movie was a big disappointment to me personally with only two saving graces. One being Bryan Cranston, and the second being the kiss of death scene. You didn't see Godzilla nearly enough, and he didn't seem to be anywhere near as powerful a force of nature as he should have been instead it felt like I was watching a movie featuring Godzookie from the HannaBarara cartoon series. He blew smoke rings and was virtually in-effective in a fight.

I think it could be good to note the Kong game from PS2 years. You were a person and played 1st person. Once in a while you got to play as Kong and go berserk. That model could work great for Godzilla imo.
