That makes sense. I get where you are coming from.
Godzilla to me represents injustice in the world. Godzilla was an anti-nuclear/anti-war message to the world. You could interpret that as a balance theme. But to me it was the directors and producers of the Godzilla films message to all out there that war and nuclear exchange creates monsters both literally in reality and in there sci-fi films. These monsters represent us (people). In these movies we created these monsters(Godzilla and rodan and such). We brought out the ugly in all of us and its in a form of giant unstoppable monsters. Punishing us for letting these atrocities take lives and ruin countries.
Godzilla is a warning, a metaphor for all the horrible things that happened around the A-bomb and WWII. To never let that happen again. Over the decades his message changes, what he means altered, and other directors use him to instill other deep messages, but I feel like that is what he is to me.
Now why I root for him? He is this messenger of pain and sorrow. There is a sadness to this beast of atomic intervention. He is a byproduct of our negligence. He represents all the pain and anguish of an entire country that has been shaken down to its foundation and changed an entire worlds identity. I root for him because he needs to be the message that wins in this fight.
Kong doesn't have that in his being. A fantastic beast yes, a primal force yes, but Kong isn't angry because of human war or nuclear exchange. He doesn't represent an entire countries woes and devastation. He is just a massive beast. No rhyme or reason for his being so massive other than mystery and suspending your disbelief.
I want Godzilla to win not just because I think he is awesome or he is my favorite of the two. But because Godzilla brings humanity's self awareness to light. He brings up uncomfortable issues that we as a species must never forget happened. He must be a reminder that we should never let those atrocities ever happen again. If Kong wins, I feel like brute force and primal instincts justify anything. The message will be replaced with whomever is more brutal and angry wins(which makes sense to sell tickets I know). But I feel the real reason and message Godzilla brings will be overlooked.
sorry I rant. but that's why im rooting. no matter who wins this time around they better just make the movie great!
