Being one of my favorite Godzilla movies, I do agree that [i]GMK[/i] might've retained some uniqueness by having Varan and Angirus in the film. But as it stands it doesn't bother me like most. Remember, [i]Godzilla x Megaguirus[/i] flopped big time at the box office in 2000. It's a miracle Toho was going to even make another movie. Although Kaneko wanted Varan and Angirus, he did agree that the popularity of King Ghidorah and Mothra are what helped make it a success. It sounds like a sell-out comment, but the truth is Toho needed to sell tickets and the Godzilla 2000 design with new/original monsters weren't bringing in audiences. [i]GMK[/i] was a hit though. That said, it helps to look at King Ghidorah and Mothra as "actors" in their own right. At this point King Ghidorah and Mothra's back stories have been re-written and re-made so many times it doesn't even faze me that their incarnations in [i]GMK[/i] were so different. And for the record, I [b]love[/b] King Ghidorah's overall design in the film.

@peyasu enraged They chose Varan, Anguirus, and Baragon because they were weak, and they wanted this Godzilla to look strong. When Toho told them to replace Varan, and Anguirus with Mothra, and Ghidorah they had to power two of the strongest monsters down, and power Godzilla up. It was just to make this incarnation stronger. I have to admit though, it was kind of insulting to undermine these characters.

Well, Ghidorah is one of my favorite kaiju, so seeing him as a hero was nice. But, if they had put Varan in GMK, I suppose that would been a legitimate reason to put him in [i]Godzilla: Unleashed[/i].

Personally, with the way Godzilla was portrayed, Ghidorah and Mothra were a better match for Godzilla. I agree wholeheartedly that both monsters have been overused but the idea of having three similar monsters go against Godzilla seems a bit dull. There wouldn't be enough variety. I was a bit disappointed, however, at how much weaker Ghidorah was in GMK. It was a bit insulting if you ask me.

I was pretty disappointed when Varan wasn't in the movie cause he's one of my favorite monsters. But Mothra and Ghidorah do fit in with the mythological theme the movie gave. Ghidorah's design bares some resemblance to Yamata no Orochi in the Japanese myths (an evil 8 headed and tailed dragon slain by Susanoo) and Mothra has always been regarded as a deity in the Godzilla series. I still wish that they put Varan in the movie since Baragon seems really weak to me.

I think that it would be a bit more interesting because those are cool monsters that always get WAY overlooked.

@Bigbadben, no it will not be Deathla. You guys need to stop believing in so many rumors. "omg the mane monster that godzilla will fite should be deathla or hedorah because both is so kewl!" There will be no Hedorah, no Deathla, and no Jet Jaguar.

I like this idea. But what is so great about both Bagan and Biollante? Everyone is all like "zomg! wee ned to bring bak biolante becuz it is kool!" There are plenty of ideas out there, folks. Same with Bagan. We really need him in a movie before he gets into another video game.

yes SCARFO ! That was a good one. With all the talk that goes on here and there...and we still have nothing worth worrying about to go on. With the rumors of a Godzilla redesign , and the fact that the split has hampered efforts to get the word out, this movie may not be released until later in the summer. maybe even 2015...if you notice most posters don't say May at all...problems abound with this movie....

Though I am a huge Godzilla fan, I just can't deny that this is a really good monster movie. So overall it's a good movie, just not a good Godzilla movie :)

id like to see Godzilla 2014 game as a 3rd person action game like amazing spider man game.and ALOT of characters even more than Godzilla unleashed

I like the idea of free roaming, bu still have missions and stroyline to follow. That, togheter with random monster occurences, a lack of Zilla, and cool looking monsters would be awesome for a Godzilla game.

Although I'm not a super gamer, I must admit, I'd like a current generation Godzilla fighting game that actually works. I still play [i]Save the Earth[/i] on my PS2 for my Godzilla gaming fix. [i]Unleashed[/i] was a glitchy disaster on PS2 and the controls for the game on the Wii were outright terrible. I'd love to see what it would look like on the PS3 with traditional controls.

as a fan of the old school games i would love to see BAGAN back for a new godzilla game but as far as any idea of a new game i believe one of these companies will do the godzilla game like that of peter jacksons king kong where you play as a human then play as the monster but i could be wrong the fighting game style everyone is referring to is getting to be like mortal kombat except with giant monsters

Very true, but his indie/foreign film credits far outweigh his Oscar/blockbuster credits. Not that this is a bad thing. Edwards comes from the same place, quite literally-- Jumping from the indie world to the blockbuster. So it sounds like the two will really understand one anothers language, which is very important. I do need to give Mr. Desplat's [i]Zero Dark Thirty[/i] score a chance. As it stands I really enjoyed his stuff for [i]The Ides of March[/i] and[i] Harry Potter[/i] the most. Those are at least the most accessible.

I wouldn't exactly call him indie. As Kaijusaurus pointed out, he's done films like Zero Dark Thirty, Argo, and Harry Potter. He's done a lot of movies that were nominated for Oscars, as well as having his Fantastic Mr. Fox score nominated. Listening to music off his official site, I'm excited to say that his stuff doesn't sound all similar. As good as John Williams is, since he's done so many movies, his material started to sound the same. I like Mr. Desplat's Zero Dark Thirty score. It is dark, and I actually like the track he uses on his site. The pulsing and dragging strings, the dark sounding horns. It's not exactly what I would use as Godzilla's theme but it's got a very similar element to what I would like to hear in the movie.

Before people get their panties in a bunch about the fact Desplat composed Twilight, lets remember there are plenty of great composers who have composed terrible films: Hans Zimmer - The Lone Ranger, Broken Arrow, The Holiday...etc... Brian Tyler - Dragonball: Evolution, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem John Williams - Star Wars prequels Jerry Goldsmith - Star Trek V, Small Soldiers, Rambo III Just because he did [i]Twilight[/i] doesn't mean he's a bad composer.

Cool. I might revisit it myself. It'll be easier to watch with a busy schedule. I won't spoil who, but some of the favorite kaiju from older series make a return. There were a couple episodes that I really liked too. Max really is one of the better marriages of both old-school feeling and newer effects (better budgets). And if I remember correctly, Shusuke Kaneko, director of the new Gamera trilogy, has a few director credits in the series.

Nope, nope, and uh... did I mention nope? As much as I like that movie, I say nope. I just think Godzilla and Kong should stay in their own universes from now on. I never really liked Kong much anyways. If they did make one, however, I'd still see it and be excited about it.

Interesting choice. Not too surprising, I guess, considering the rest of the crew is practically from the indie world. I'm sure he'll turn in a fine score.

Hmm... I think I might give [i]Max[/i] a world. While I love continuing story lines I'm all for the monster-of-the-week formula. I thought it worked beautifully in the original[i] Ultraman[/i]. The multiple form stuff kind of gets old for me...
