AdminGodzillaAug-22-2013 1:55 AMAt subtle request of Mr. *AL* in a thread that will remain unmentioned, I've decided start a discussion over the battles Godzilla has lost. No doubt it's a touchy subject amongst some fans, but Godzilla's lost battles can be just as spectacular as the ones he won. It's still an important part of his legacy in the franchise.
Here's a list I compiled. Anyone care to discuss, add or give a rebuttal against some of these? Feel free:
Godzilla (1954): Godzilla lost to humans with the Oxygen Destroyer
Godzilla Raids Again: Godzilla lost to humans by being buried in the ice.
King Kong vs. Godzilla: Godzilla lost to Kong. Kong was the only one to rise above the ocean after they fought underwater. (There is a misconception that Godzilla won in the Japanese version. Rest assured, that is a false rumor. The ending is the same for both versions.)
Godzilla vs. Mothra: Godzilla lost to two Mothra Larvae.
Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster: Godzilla lost to Mothra again in a short skirmish.
Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla: Godzilla lost his first fight against MechaGodzilla.
Godzilla 1985/The Return of Godzilla: Godzilla was defeated by humans again, by being lured into a volcano.
Godzilla vs. Biollante: Godzilla lost to the combined might of Biollante and the Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria that humans used on him.
Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth: Godzilla lost to Mothra (and Battra) AGAIN.
Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla 2: MechaGodzilla briefly killed Godzilla. (He would've stayed dead if it weren't for Rodan.)
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla: Godzilla lost his first fight to SpaceGodzilla.
Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: General Tachibana beat him by drilling a hole out of his throat. The hole fired his atomic ray and exploded him.
Godzilla against MechaGodzilla: Kiryu defeats Godzilla in the end.
Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.: Godzilla is defeated by Kiryu and the Mothra Larvae (AGAIN) and then lost forever in the Japanese trench.
Anything else? Or anything that we might discuss that counts? It seems Mothra and MechaGodzilla have the records here.
