Zilla
MemberMothra LarvaeJul-27-2013 8:54 PMHi, it's Zilla. I know I screwed up during the 1998 film big time. If I could do it over again better, I would. But, were there any of you that didn't mind the movie as a film on it's own? This is where we shall discuss my film. But DON'T compare it to the Godzilla movies, I don't want to start any fights.
Though, there was one good thing that came out of it: The animated series. That was awesome.

Honestly if this movie had a different name it would be a really good movie but...since its name was godzilla we were expecting the original godzilla not some completely different creature so really it was but wasn't bad

The only good thing I have to say in that Godzilla is that he kinda looked like a dinosaur.

I wonder if people know that they couldn't get Zilla in the 1998 movie to look like or act like Godzilla because Tristar would have to buy the rights for the look, atomic breath, and other monsters from Toho.

well to be honest i only ever found 1998 Godzilla to be ... underwhelming it wasn't bad just not as good as i hoped. i9 liked the cartoon that the movie spawned though.

I agree with Daleks...
It was a remake of Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. If it had been called that I would not f***ing hate that movie like I do.

I owe this movie a big thank you. I was around 5 or 6 when this movie came out and I loved it. When Godzilla 2000 came out afterwards I went to see it thinking it was a sequel. I ended up loving Godzilla 2000 a whole lot more since he actually kicked ass. So I researched Godzilla like no tomorrow and loved the whole idea, my cousin had VHS Godzilla tapes and I watched them all. Obviously as I grew older and more educated I hated the film due to its flaws and insult to the king. But this film will always hold a place in my heart. Truthfully it would've been a great monster movie if Godzilla wasn't the title. But then again if it wasn't named Godzilla I would've never become a G-fan so....yeah. Me and this movie have a complicated relationship.

It wasn't that bad of a movie but it was better than Godzilla's Revenge. Maybe in the future i will watch it again, just not now

Basically everything InstictiveGigan said, except I was three and I watched it on VHS and it got me over my fear of Godzilla.

Although I don't share the same sentimental gratitude that InstinctiveGigan has for it, I am grateful for some things this movie did:
I was already a Godzilla fan when GINO, or Godzilla '98, was released. Even though it's something of a stain on the Godzilla series it did expose more of the franchise to the North American fanbase.
The Heisei Godzilla series (after Biollante anyway) was finally released during this time and we were given a lot of great merchandise like the Random House books...etc...
It also prompted Toho to revitalize their Godzilla series. Although fans are fairly split on how the Millennium series turned out, it was nice to get another set of Godzilla films that were true to the spirit of the franchise--unlike GINO.
