Vs The Thing. No camp, effects were good. Loved the way he rose up from the ground instead of the sea when he made his initial entrance.
Yeah I don't like Cloverfield's ending much, but they were on the right track. I just didn't give a crap about the characters that much to care, I think if Godzilla made good characters it'd be much better than Cloverfield. But then again, I don't like Cloverfield that much overall.
"CLOVERFIELD: TAKE 2"
^Wow. Very, very true. Despite how some people feel about it.
Godzilla vs. Mothra '64 was pretty serious as well, but the fact is if these movies had stayed "dark and serious" we wouldn't have nearly as many Godzilla movies. They would've gotten stale and boring and the series wouldn't have last.
Besides, they tried remaking the Showa series. It was called the Heisei and Millennium series. Both were inferior to the Showa series and I would never change a single thing about it, especially not the 1960s films.
^You have no idea how much I love this.
Godzilla Raids Again
godzilla 84 for sure. GMK is pretty serious too, with the whole "big g is the ghosts of everyone who died in the pacific theater", but at teh same time, there's guardian spirits and it does have some campy elements.
Its deffinitely not needed....
Best introduce a new series with new monsters.
unlike most of the millenium films which reused and re-introduced the same monsters again and had very few new monsters
I'd make the Godzilla movie I wanted to see and I'd avoid the fan-wankery that is "Godzilla is a metaphorz for nuclear holocaust yo! TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY".
But that is just me. I'd make a sequel to the Showa series and really embrace the Japanese culture surrounding Godzilla and tokusatsu in general, not discard it because its 'silly' or 'wouldn't hold up to today's audiences'.
Best part is, my Godzilla movie would be a helluva lot cheaper to make than Legendary's and it'd have an all Japanese cast, thus meaning there wouldn't be over priviledged american actors taking up a huge portion of the film's payroll.
No Toho monsters.
Period.
If Legendary can't succeed with Godzilla using their own creativity to create new foes and stories for him, they don't deserve to make this franchise at all.
Toho monsters belong with Toho, and they did not have a hand in the development of this film. They only supervised Godzilla's design, nothing more. Legendary made no announcements of any other Toho creatures, and they confirmed multiple times that there wouldn't be any.
If Legendary does bring in a Toho monster, they'll be shooting themselves in the foot and proving once and for all that they don't deserve to do anything with Godzilla beyond this film. Toho Kaiju belong with Toho and they belong in the old films that we all know and love. They do not belong in this franchise.
Question TEVIN, how do you know what Legendary would or would not say?
Last I checked you're just another person on the internet. Are you the son of a Legendary producer or director who's been involved in the film or at least in Legendary as a whole and somehow know their process and their strategies in a way that nobody else does?
Legendary announced several times there'd be no Toho monsters in the film, and indeed that's how it should be.
Toho monsters don't belong in this franchise, and if Legendary puts one into the franchise they'll be shooting themselves in the foot. This'll be about the umpteenth time I've said it, but here it is again:
If Legendary can't make a successful franchise based on Godzilla using their own creativity, they don't deserve to make the franchise at all.
I'm 100% certain they won't have any Toho monsters in the film. The leaked information that Chris received from his anonymous source that says the MUTOs are Toho monsters I'm certain is a load of crap born of either misinterpretation or miscommunication, and as much as I trust Chris I don't trust this anonymous source of his.
I wouldn't direct a Godzilla movie. This fanbase is too hard to please and Gareth Edwards is a saint for putting up with it. If I signed up to direct Godzilla it would include a clause that I never had to go to Comic Con or meet fans.
One thing is for sure though. If I did direct it, it would not include the words "rap-rap" or "tuff-tuff" at all.
The reason they went with gas in the original was due to budgetary reasons. They had always meant it to be a concentrated beam, but money and effects technology limited their options.
Godzilla's thermonuclear breath cannot be in a gaseous form because gas dissipates the farther away from the source it gets. Godzilla's breath would go all of maybe one full Godzilla body length away and then dissipate into nothing. True it would be radioactive and bake the surrounding area with radiation, but it would be incredibly underwhelming. Physics demands a concentrated beam rather than a stream of gas. Not only does gas dissipate, but it also lacks any kind of impact as it's just a slightly denser form of air in a way. Even if it's radioatice, it's just gas and that makes it incredibly limited in its capabilities.
It has to be a concentrated beam or else it doesn't work.
Easily Godzilla 1984. The movie isn't concerned with anything remotely other-worldly like mysticsm, time travel, interstellar space monsters...etc... It's a politcal, cold-war, disaster film.
GMK is dark, but it's not super serious. It's flexible enough to have fun with the mythical aspects and the monster battles.
Can't really do anything but say I agree with the above two posts here.
Madison,
I've always heard a movie must earn back 2x its budgets due to the 50% theater costs. Where does this 1.5x factor in? Or is it a matter of time?
@Akagi
"It'd be a bit naive to assume that Kyero isn't getting some sort of smartassed joy out of telling people they are wrong, or at least venting his unbridled furstration, either way he wouldn't be here mingling with us commoners if he didn't. Like I've stated in the past, I usually agree with him, but I get tired of seeing walls of text over explaining assumptions as fact-- that kind of pretentious display has a way of being counter productive."
Well of course he gets off a little to being right, but I do to sometimes. Granted it's more evident with him, but sometimes people need a swift kick in head to get their thought process straight. I still don't see it in every post he makes, though.
It's probably correct to assume this forum caters to a younger crowd, but it would be nice if they at least continued on their way with the correct information. (Although I'm not strictly speaking about news and rumors of the upcoming film... Much of that invites shooting messages back and forth. I tend to steer clear of most of those creative assumptions. They just don't interest me.)
But regardless of age, most fandoms are like this. The Godzilla fandom as a whole has been pretty barbaric since I joined the online community in 1998. What's terrifying is this is childs play compared to the Star Trek and Star Wars fandoms. Not that that it makes it any better, but it's worth noting that most large fanbases with a considerable history are going to be bumpy no matter what.
LOL Minilla vs Orga that cracks me up when you think about it.
Kiryu got this. In Final Wars Gigan's head got blown off two times by Mothra and Godzilla.
GMK's my favorite and my opinion agrees with you too, i love how that movie goes all mythical or should i say prophecy-like
Yeah definitely GMK. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah and Destroyah and 1985 were also pretty serious in tone.
I completely agree with BCrockett94. I see the Muto a different monster, not Toho monster.
1 King Ghidorah
2 Gypsy Danger
3 Minilla because he is like 50 times my size.
4 Hulk
5 Godzilla
6 Gamera
7 Godzilla 2014 because he is bigger and stronger
8 Godzilla already fried Zilla's ass in Final Wars so obviously Godzilla would win.
9 Do more, these are fun :)
1. Godzilla
2 I would say Mothra only because I don't know anything about the MUTOS
3 Mechagodzilla
4 Sea Monster
5 Godzilla
6. Is that a serious question? Lol. Orga.
Haha, so the movie really Sucked literally.
Thanks for clarify my doubts guys, I love you all.
Ooooh, wow. I thought the toy was 43" in height. Lol. 43" in height sounded a bit crazy but it makes sense now. XD
Jerk? Youre calling me a jerk now? Ok then assume whatever you think's correct im done argueing with you.
KYERO.... shut up
Now imma give you a hint on why your post made absolutely no sense and was totally useless: I wrote "what if" and "maybe" in my topic.
Now figure it out
Jhosuahopkins, the height is about 24" inches/ 2 feet tall.
1. Godzilla vs. Gypsy Danger = Godzilla
Gypsy has a lot going for her, but in the end she's still nothing but a robot controlled by humans who are fighting against a living creature with a near indestructible hide and a beam of pure, concentrated radiation which has enough force and incendiary power to completely annihilate Gypsy's armor and kill the pilots within.
2. Mothra vs. Mutos = N/A
Since the MUTO's have no known form or identity, this match-up is null and void and a winner cannot be declared.
3. Avengers vs. Mechagodzilla = Avengers
Thor alone could take Mechagodzilla. All he'd have to do is either outlast Mechagodzilla's power supply (Thor was known to have fought against an army for 9 months without showing signs of fatigue), or just fry MechaG's circuits with a well placed blast of Thunder. Mecha-G is cool and all, but he is one of Godzilla's most overrated foes along with King Ghidorah.
4. Ebirah vs. Kraken = Kraken
Squid/Octopi naturally feed on crustaceans and other sea life forms and are rarely meals themselves. If the Kraken was scaled properly to Ebirah's size, it'd be no contest. One quick wrap of Ebirah's claws and the Kraken has the fight won straight away.
5. Godzilla vs. Gamera = Undecided
Both monsters have a lot going for them, and though a lot of us will favor Godzilla due to his "indestructibility," I have to disagree with the masses on that account.
When taking Godzilla's indestructibility into account, you have to remember that that's only against conventional human weaponry. His hide has been pierced several times against numerous other Kaiju, and there's no reason to believe that Gamera couldn't do the same with his tusks, elbow spikes, or even his shell if he built up enough speed to ram Godzilla.
Godzilla's greatest advantage in this fight is his durability, as Gamera is a bit more fragile in terms of hide density. However, Gamera has a few other advantages. He's more agile, capable of flight, and also has te ability to connect with the human race which grants him a few extra special perks.
Gamera's greatest strength against Godzilla will be his ability to fly, as Godzilla must remain firmly rooted on the ground to be effective. Once knocked down, his effectiveness decreases. All Gamera has to do is fly about, ram Godzilla to the ground, and then bombard him with fire blasts and maybe even fly stright down on top of him after pulling in his head and arms to allow the pointed section of the top of his shell to smash into Godzilla and possibly split him wide open.
Conversely, Godzilla could easily do the same to Gamera in terms of pure damage. If Godzilla were to get ahold of Gamera at any point and knock him to the ground on his back, it would probably only take one or two good blasts from his thermonuclear breath to compromise the durability of his shell, and then Godzilla could claw away or try to bite Gamera's softer flesh and tear him apart.
As I said, both monsters have a lot going for them and both have the potential to win this fight.
In the end, I honestly have to say it's a draw, as both of them would have to create very specific circumstances during the fight to be able to win. A straight up fight without the use of thermonuclear breath or fire ball attacks would likely be a stand off.
THey are talking of the 20" inches tall figure that was annouced previously. Obviously the length should be around the twice.
Actually, im 100% positive that there will be no toho monsters. And one of the main reasons is marketing purposes. Also, Banno had acquired the rights to Godzilla. He didnt need any other rights for his movie as he was creating a new monster for the movie. Also, by now.. youd think that someone at Legendary might have let it slip up that they have more rights than what people are letting on. If two trailers can manage to leak, a simple "weve got another toho monster!" Would be next to impossible to keep secret.
I have some doubts about it, because as someone said before getting the Godzilla license was already pricey for the studios, so another Toho monster means a great expense too, specially when WB/Legendary people are awaiting for the box office results before invest more money for a sequel idea.
But if they already put another kaiju (who knows), I think Destoroyah is an option, because his origins involves the usage of Oxygen Destroyer, the only thing that defeated the First Godzilla, we have an equivalent of Dr. Serizawa here, and the products details in the upcoming figures talk about eight-legged Mutos and winged Mutos, and Destoroyah passed through those stages already
Hey Dragonlord Tevin what's the big deal, who cares if I made a mistake about putting it in a 2014 discussion are you that obsessed that everything has to be perfect. This is a website where people can express there excitment about the new movie and disscuss original godzilla info so don't ruin the fun for me and in the future don't ruin it for other people.
Hmmm, are we directing the 2014 movie constrained by the premise that has already been established? Or can we just go off the handle?
For a constrained movie, I dunno, I would have a slow build up, hints that the MUTO's are coming, the MUTO organization covering it up, while Taylor Johnson and others invesitage to find the truth. Build it like an espionage/conspiracy movie, for the first 30 minutes or so, very little monster action.
Then the MUTO monsters show up/escape, all hell breaks loose. Aaron Taylor Johnson and the military get tasked with evacuation and cleanup...while Cranston tracks something similar to a MUTO monster, but MUCH bigger. He keeps trying to warn people, but they dismiss him as warning about more of the same, and they focus more of their efforts trying to get current problems under control, not bother themselves with new seismic activity.
Then an hour in: GODZILLA HOLY SHIT THAT IS WAY WORSE THAN A MUTO!!!!!
Spend the next 30 minutes half with with Godzilla destruction/smaller MUTO battles, evacuation/rescue missions, as people start vaguely learning that Godzilla and the MUTO's are somehow connected/drawn to each other. The other half spent with Serizawa and Cranston talking and Serizawa giving flashbacks to 1954, how he helped create all this mess, and giving vital clues how it can all be cleaned up.
Last half hour is an EPIC 3 way battle between the MUTO Boss, Godzilla, and the military armed w/ experimental tech, which ends with the MUTO dead for sure....Godzilla ambiguously defeated, and the military with a pyhrric victory that must now focus and rebuilding....and hope that something like this never, ever, happens again.
Now if I'm allowed to go off the walls, I'd like to see an Alien Invasion movie. Kinda rip off Pacific Rim a little bit, as the Aliens bring monsters down with them as weapons, with Godzilla being an anti-hero earth defender. Like, he's defending earth, but because earth is HIS territory, not anybody elses. You know, so Godzilla is all 'Get Off My Lawn' towards everybody, the aliens, the monsters, the humans....everyone. It wouldn't be a good or original movie, but it would be fun, and I would enjoy the crap out of it :-)
